"Extremely" satisfied
I've been using Extreme gear for many years now. They are the best buy around and the durability has been amazing. I like many different reels. I have used all of the high end Shimanos and they are fantastic! BUT too me the extreme offers all I need. I have a lakehouse so I get to fish more than most, take several trips to the gulf for specks and redfish every year, go to Lake Fork and Monticello for big bass action, and many other lakes in surrounding states. The only reason I am writing all of this is bc too many people say it is a good reel for a beginner....or someone that doesn't fish very much. Simply not true.... I can't help but laugh when I see some folks without boats, that fish 10 times a year carrying around a $500+ rig. Many of the pros use equipment that people on here claim is for beginners.. Absolutely hilarious. Lastly, don't get me wrong. I am not bashing high dollar gear. There is a lot to be said for the good stuff. But too me, its all about catching fish and the extreme gear has been great to me!

best rod/reel combo for the money
Bass Pro extreme...I have about 10 of them. Redfish, specks, bass, smallies, trout, walleyes, and even catfish. It doesn't matter i use them for all species in multiple states. I have never had a single problem. They will serve you well I promise. If yu want a great cheap line to go with it, order 15 Triple Fish X rated.

Quantum Code B/C - Opinions???
I bought 2 of them and i am happy with the performance. They are worth the money but no more. The external braking system is great, the frame is small and light, castability is just decent, one of my screams occassionally and the other is quiet. I have caught everything from trout to redfish and never had a broblem. The drag performed flawlessly on a big bull red.

Woo Hoo! Topwaters Smallies
Well I am still waiting or my buddy to send me the pics. they aren't anything special anyway. We ended up with a great weekend! The topwater bite was the most productive. They would hammer the Sammy, Top Dollar, and G Splash. We never found the bigger fish but it was still a blast.

Woo Hoo! Topwaters Smallies
One of my favorite times of the year. The topwater bite just started to heat up here on Greers Ferry. We were hammering them with LC G Splash and the Norman Top Dollar. The fish were suspended below a rock shelf. The shelf was in 4ft and dropped off to 14ft. We caught 30 but no significant size. I can't wait for the morning. Nothing is more fun than smallies on topwater!!! I'll post pics tomorrow...

Texarkana Tx in east texas
I would make a few trips up to Millwood. The lake is a great fishery and its only 30 minutes from Texarkana. I was working in Texarkana for a week and bank fished Millwood every afternoon and caught some nice ones. The whites were thick below the spillway but i caught all of the blacks along the grass with frogs and spinnerbaits. Watch out for the gators! I had a big one cruise up on me!

Tips for fishing on Lake Maumelle
I am from Little rock...

Moving to Little Rock area
Dont hit Greers unless you are looking for hybrids. It has been dang near impossible lately. The water is dropping at an incredible rate and is fairly muddy. The bass fishing has been aweful, jugging for cats is decent, and hybrids are scattered but can be found.....I am ready for FALL!!!

Tips for fishing on Lake Maumelle
There were some decent fish caught. I can catch a lot of fish on that lake up until June. Then I have one spot that constantly produces but no big ones.

Rod Suggestions
Dang, shimano must have made some serious improvements in their rods! I havent had one in 5 or more years but they certainly weren't anything to brag about. Sounds like I may need to give them another shot. I am surprised to see anyone recommending these over all star, falcon, and American rodsmith!
-
Rod Suggestions
I agree with the All Star..that should have been in my list.

Rod Suggestions
7'MH American Rodsmith Team Series 7'MH Quantum Energy PT 7'MH Bass Pro Extreme 7'MH Falcon Lowrider These would be my top 4. I think the American rodsmith and quantum carry a lifetime warranty. Cant remember about the Falcon and Bass Pro has always made things right for me. The quantum is the most underrated rod I have used, I much prefer these 4 over the Compre and they only cost about $10-$20 more.

shakey head advice
I much prefer fishing a shakeyhead on spinning gear with 6 or 8 pound line. You are right about Gambler, their sweebo worm is a killer. There is nothing to fishing a shakey. You can fish it just about anywhere. I get a lot of strikes with the worm just sitting on the bottom. Then I pull up and let it sink again...and reel in the slack. Nothin to it! I am still searching for the perfect jighead. I really like spot removers and gamblers. But I think I might give the new Evos a try.

First Look: Abu Garcia 2009
I am so impressed with my Cardinal 701 and 702s, I will be looking forward to replacing my other spinning reels with the Soron or maybe just some more 702s These reels are incredible.

Pointer Vs. X-Rap
They are both good. I have caught more fish on the X Rap this year but I have also fished them more.
-
Rod for topwater
I agree, I am going back to a 6'6 rod for topwater and jerkbaits. All of my other rods are 7'.
-
Fireline vs. Spiderwire
Sufix and PP are much more manageable and will cast better. I used PP for years and have just switched to Sufix this year. To me, sufix is the best handling superline I have used....spiderwire is in the middle...and the fireline is at the bottom.

Spinning Reels <$130
The Cardinal 702 will be very tough to beat. I love these reels. Here is my review of them: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1212977782/3#3

HELP ME IDENTIFY FISH (another weird hybrid pic)
Definitely a sunfish. I catch them all the time on a shakeyhead. All the ones I catch look like that one. Its no hybrid but fun none the less.

Premium rods and reels for children?
I would like to keep the emphasis on enjoying fishing for what it is and not how cool your rod is. It is just something that bugs me about fishing today. I will buy my kid good equipment but hopefully he/she will enjoy fishing for the art and the appreciation of nature and not b/c he has a cool looking rod/reel. I actually see on a daily basis people trying to make their reels match their rods. My grandpa would roll over in his grave. But I realize i am a 32 y/o stuck in an old man's body.
