Afordable tackle
HA HA! I just bought 2 quantum codes and 2 quantum Energy PT Rods. But some on this forum don't care for quantum. I personally am fine with them.

- Throwing Buzz/Spinnerbaits on a Spincasting
Spinning gear can work fine for these baits. BUT the biggest problem is accuracy. It is harder to throw a spinnerbait right up on the structure with spinning gear. But it can be done. If thats all you got, practice away and you should have no problems.- g.loomis frog rod
I used one while Redfishing in Venice last month. It was my friends rod but i spent a day with it. Its a good rod and felt ok but was super bulky feeling to me. I would mess around with one first just to make sure you like it. Obviously any Loomis rods are quality so you don't need to worry there. Just make sure i feels right to you.- Afordable tackle
Knowing how and where to fish is all you NEED to be a good fisherman. Think of how many people think Quantum is junk yet KVD, Bill Dance, Shaw Grigsby, and a bunch of others are successful with it. It actually makes me laugh sometimes seeing the average joe with gear better than KVD. I don't buy the high end gear anymore bc I don't think its any better than what I have. I have a bunch of high end stuff and some new mid priced stuff that I think is just as good. However, I will not buy thew cheap stuff. I just threw my buddies 6' MH UGly Stick and it was a pool que!!!!- Fireline Crystal??????
My buddy used it on a redfishing trip we went on in March. The water was very muddy and you could see his line several feet underwater. I was not impressed. But I also hate fireline so I may be biased.- soft plastic frog
Some people really like fishing them. They are not a go to bait for me BUT they do catch fish and fun to fish as well. They work great as a topwater bait but can be fished below surface as well. I like zoom and ribbit frogs.- Need help finding bigger smallies on my home lake
RW, I suspect you are right. I know how to catch a lot of smallies but nothing of size. I need to focus on deeper water I believe. A local guide told me he thought most people fish the bank too much and need to be casting on the other side of the boat away from the bank. Thanks and I can't wait to get back after them. Nothing fights like those little guys!- Need some help
I am super impressed with the quantum Energy PT split grip rods. They are very underrated and Lifetime warranty. $100 I also use a lot of the Woo Daves Bass Pro Extreme rods and absolutely love them as well. Plus they are on sale!- Situation Senko
I have found the Senko type baits work in all conditions. The only time I don't use them is really muddy water. But I have caught fish on sunny days and caught 50+ bass in the rain last week. Its pretty versatile. But if I had to choose, I would like a partly cloudy day with a slight breeze in clear water.- Fishing w/ Shaw Grigsby on Monday - ought to be fun!
I remember thinking what an idiot he was at first. BUT NOW I love his show and DVR it every wek. You gotta love his enthusiasm! I don't know what I was thinking before...looks like I was the idiot.- Crank bait line?
I would use a 15 pound flourocarbon line. I like Seagur, Berkley Professional, Bass Pro...etc You could also go to Power Pro braid. It is great for cranking unless you are cranking against rocks. The rocks will fray it and break. I have been using a Copolymer line called Triple Fish X Rated and am loving it. It has been very strong and abrasion resistant. The stuff is cheap too! I have 2 reels spooled with 15 pound.- Oakley polarized glasses
I was told at the Sunglass shop that the Oakleys weren't as good as Maui Jims or Costa Del Mar. I have no idea if that is true or not but the lady gave me several reasons that I now have forgotten. She sold all brands and they were all in the same price range but she said Oakleys won't hold up in the saltwater as well. I wear Maui Jims and really like them. There is a noticeable difference in mine vs. my buddies Ray Bans. I can see in the water much better.... I really like the blue and green Costa Del Mar lenses! I don't care for the looks as much but the performance is nice. I am thinking about getting some of these. http://www.costadelmar.com/store/BVModules/ProductTemplates/Costa%20-%20Product%20Layout/Product.aspx?productid=FA- fishing small ponds
I fish a golf course pond that has some pigs in it. The bait that catches the most fish is without a doubt a black/red fleck gitzit, the strike king watermelon bleeding tubes, and 4" stick baits.. The bigger fish come on 10" Berkley Power worms. Good Luck!- Swimming a frog, natural look or un-natural?
A lot of times I fish one on top and then let it drop for a few second and reel it back to the top. The fish hit it on the drop most of the time. It sounds like you have it figured out!- I finally discovered the blessing called "braid"!
Yes there is a noticeble difference. I really like the stuff but I fish a lot of clear water so I throw more flouro and copolymer. I use braid for stained water and all of my crankbait and rat l traps.- Gander Mountain?
The one in N Little Rock has a great selection. I have never noticed the prices being high but they will match prices so just tell them. They have always had what I needed.- Quantum- fading away???
Well if the Codes I bought don't hold up, then I won't be too surprised. Honestly, I bought them bc the reels have some great features but was sketpical. Basically I had some extra dough and didn't need anymore rods but what the heck. So far they have worked out well. I have about 100 fish on one combo and 10 on the other. Both setups have been great to fish with BUT only time will tell if the hold up. BUT the PT rods are fantastic!- Need help finding bigger smallies on my home lake
I have a place on Greers Ferry Lake in central Arkansas. I have been fishing this lake since I was 5 y/o and I am now 32. I know the lake inside and out and I catch big LMs, walleye, hybrids, crappie, and a bunch of smallmouth. The lake has a lot of smallmouth in it. HOWEVER, I can NOT find any size to the smallies. It is a deep clear lake with most of the cover being rocks, creek channels, and humps. There are a lot of 3 and 4 pound smallies in the lake but I can't find them. I can catch 20 smallies a day but they will all be 10-12". I throw drop shot zoom finesse worms, watermelon gitzits texas rigged, spot removers with watermelon black finesse worms, and 5" stick baits. Is there anything that you guys would recommend to find the bigger fish? Colors? baits? techniques? I am stumped!- Anyone else enjoy fishing in the rain?
I agree! When I have a day off of work, there is nothing better to me than a calm day with a slight rain for fishing. It is relaxing to me....plus the fish were hammering the stick baits.- Quantum- fading away???
I hadn't had used any Quantum gear in 10 years until this month. I decided to try them again and bought 2 of their new Code reels and paired them with the ENergy Pt split grip rods. The Code is decent but the rods were a pleasant surprise! I compared them to my Loomis(got laughed at by a few but I can take it ) Those rods are an absolute steel for $100 plus a lifetime Warranty. But agree there isn't much interest. I posted 2 threads about the new Quantum gear and only got 5 or 6 responses. Any other review of new gear would probably have gotten several pages. Its obvious that there isn't a whole lot interest. My last quantum reel was junk so I told myself I would never buy another but decided to give them another shot. So far I am pleased but we will see in the long run.- Anyone else enjoy fishing in the rain?
Now I am not talking about fishing in a storm! But I love a nice spring rain. Had it this morning and they were all over the stick baits. I was acting like a dang kid! 2 new rods, 25 new stick baits, and the bass were hammering them. What else could a man want?- how big?
Hard to tell but I would say every bit of nine and could be a ten+. Nice fish congrats!- Exclusive interview with John Crews
I think he certainly has a point. There is a lot on the line for these guys and I bet many feel that a co-angler gets in their way or takes away from their fish. I agree that it may not set well with some but I bet he isn't the onlyone that thinks this way. Good interview Glenn.- Anyone else enjoy fishing in the rain?
Don't get me wrong, I love those beautuful sunny days but there is something about fishing in a rain that I actually enjoy. I went out this morning and hammered the bass on some *** and Yum Dingers. Yesterday they were on a spinnerbait but today it was all stick baits. Anyway, it was calm but a pretty decent rain. I had the place to myself and man was it relaxing. Caught about 20 bass and a nice 4 pounder. Does anyone else like to fish in the rain or am i the only moron on this site? - Throwing Buzz/Spinnerbaits on a Spincasting
