  1. Congrats! Can't go wrong with a Citica. I would pull every other bead out on the braking system. Then set the spool so that the bait drops to the ground then stops.(like previously mentioned) This should get you started.
  2. Ha I am not as impressed with Loomis as many folks. But I am also the guy that prefers his extreme reels over his curados so go figure. No doubt loomis are great rods but not a huge difference IMO. I actually get most Loomis rods nearly half price from a buddy who own an outfitting service. I still don't buy many of them. I don't want this to be a Quantum vs Loomis debate. Just want to know if anyone uses these rods.
  3. I am in the same boat being that I fish greers ferry/ It is at an alltime high and the fishing is TOUGH. Our lakes will be high for a very longtime. They simply can't let any water out or it will flood down south. The high water is usually good for the overall bass population and once it clears, will provide some d**n good fishing. On Greers, the fish are in the back of deep coves in 4-8 ft. I personally haven't fished it and I won't under these conditions. Its slim pickens so I will go elsewhere. Good luck and let me know if you find a pattern. I will also talk to my buddy that knows beaver well.
  4. I bought 2 quantum PT Energy split grip rods on a whim. I didn't have any quantum gear and wanted to give them another shot. (Basically the monkey got me and I decided to give quantum another shot). These rods are FANTASTIC! I am very impressed....these things compete with my Loomis and I like them better than my falcons and all stars. The felt light, are very sensitive, and have great action. I bought a 7'M and 7'MH. I paired them with 2 quantum codes which are pretty good but thats another thread. I certainly don't hear much about them and honestly didn't expect much. Boy was I wrong! I boated 40 bass today on the 7' M and have fallen in love!!!! Anyone else hve any experience with quantum rods?
  5. Thanks basser. It is the same as the Shimano oil, and the grease is a Lithium. Oils & Greasesearoach, Keep that crap in the trash can. You don't spray silicones into a reel.....Ballistik, If your talking about the white Drag grease from Shimano it isn't a gear grease it is used on the drag pads (Shimano® Drag Grease)... That's is a lot of anglers opinions on the stuff except is very light (viscosity wise)and will have to be repeated quite often during the season..searoach, Oil for bearings only (one Drop max). Grease for main and pinion gears. Push the grease down into the teeth base.. Thats it, nowhere else....Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!! Whats your opinion on Hot Sauce?
  6. I have 4 of the extreme spinning combos. They are worth twice the price. The reels are very smooth, the mag spool allows for great distance, and I tested the drag on a 25 pound redfish on 12 pound line. The drag performed perfectly. Plus they are on sale for $39!!!Thats a steel IMO.
  7. I can give you the name of 3 guys that I recommend. Boola, Bobby Warren(thats who I use), and Andy Mnichowski. Andy has the nicest Lodge but you will pay more. The place is sweet with 50" flat screens, a bar, and really nice beds. He charges 200/night to stay there but that includes food. The lodge is 7000 sq/ft and you will fish out of a brand new Ranger. However all the boats are nice and most use Skeeters. Hope you have fun its a fishermans paradise.
  8. I actually just fished it for the first time today. It is a goodlooking bait but I didn't really give it a chance bc the spinnerbait bite was on and I was hammering them!!!! However, the MM has directions on the back of the pack. The best wayto rig them is with a 5/0 weighted hook. I used an 1/8 oz and it worked great. The bait is weedless and has great action. I am excited to try it in the morning. Ill give you the report tomorrow when I get some more time with it.
  9. I forgot about the Trion. I actually have one nd really like it. It is smooth and hascaught some pretty mean hybrids. Its a great buy.
  10. Thats what its all about! I had been away from home for 5 weeks working and was about to lose it. I found a local pond near the city I was working in and went to Wal Mart and bought a cheap rod. Luckily I had just ordered a code and happened to have it in my car. I bought some line, 1 pack of yum dingers, 1 pack of strike king tubes and fished from 5 until 8. It absolutely renewed me and made the rest of the week great! Congrats on a good trip.
  11. x3. Its one smoooooooth reel. Bass Pro shops extreme is also very good and on sale for $39!!!! I landed a 25 pound redfish on 12 pound test with the extreme reel. I was VERY impressed with, smoothness, castability(has the mag spool) and the drag performed flawlessly.
  12. I was fishing in Venice about a month ago. It is unbelievable and I am going back in June. Here are me and some friends. It was my fishing buddies bachelor party and it was a blast!! Who's your guide? I actually spoke with Capt. Boola yesterday and they are tearing them up right now. I haven't fished with Boola but I may give him a try in the fall. This is my buddy and his dad with one heck of a double! This is me and my guide. We boated 40 fish in this one little entry to a pond. None of them were big bulls but still fun. Here was a typical one. My buddies dad caught this monster!
  13. I fish the river quite a bit but I fish the Little Rock pools simply for convenience.(I live 5 minutes from Murray Park).. My biggest river bass is 4.5 pounds and have never seen one boated over six. Most of the big fish are down in the area that you ar asking about. Unfortunately, I don't know that area. I can tell you that fishing that river is unlike fishing any lakes I have been around. I catch most of my fish on the downriver side of jetties. Try to find the ones that have a little grass or rocks that extend out a little. I avoid the ones that are mostly sand. These are good when there is current. I throw Model A bombers in a variety of colors. My favorites being lemon lime, chartreuse brown tiger, and red crawdad. Put the boat parallel to the jettie and crank right on it....5 feet off and you won't catch anything! I also always fish the corner where the jettie meets the bank with a black and chartreuse gitzit. My better fish usually come out of this area. Buzzbaits and spinnerbaits are also very productive. When the river is slow, that is a good time to fish the back water. You can throw buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, and gitzits. Again, try to find grass or pitch a gitzit into stumps. I have caught some pretty good fish on senkos in the backwater as well. You probably have tried all of this but that is all I know.
  14. Shimano has a reputation for being durable. They have held up over the years better than many others. However, I will say that I think several companies have caught up to them. I don't get the fascination either. I fish with curados, some older citicas, and several spinning reels. IMO the Bass Pro Extreme reels are just as good as a curado. I do not see one single advantage to the curados. I know that a lot of folks will argue this BUT the extreme reels are every bit as smooth, more durable(see my post from a few weeks ago below), and half the price. There are many other reels that are just as nice. However, shimano makes a darn good real. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1207490444/3#3
  15. Well it looks like we have pinpointed your fish's weight. It is exactly between 4 and 15 pounds Whatever it is, it is a great accomplishment.
  16. Great story! That is a great fish and good looking gal at that...strong colors.
  17. I fish a lot of 10" Power worms at night. I fish them the exact same way as a regular worm. I texas rig it and use a 5/0 Gammie. An oversized hook may not be a bad deal but I hardly ever lose fish with a 5/0. Tequila Sunrise is my favorite.
  18. I hear ya. I think you will love the combo. Where do you fish? I have a place on Greers but the flood has screwed up my entire spring. All the water that I fish has been affected.
  19. Why didn't you tag along & take pictures? Excellent report Its a joke. It was a great report and means I am jealous and want to see pics. Lake Fork is a unique lake and one that I love to fish. I didn't mean for that to come off as cold. It is a common saying on another forum that means you are interested and want to enjoy some pics. Congrats on a great trip. My very first cast on Lake Fork was 6 years ago and it was a 7 pounder on a red rat-l-trap. I didn't catch a fish the rest of the day!
  20. I throw them on a spot remover more than anything, second would be weightless texas rigged, third wacky, and fourth drop shoting. Kiwi is a pretty good color. I have caught a lot of fish on the Kiwi/spot remover.
  21. I brought a banana on the boat while redfishing and I thought my guide was going to throw me overboard.
  22. Either one will work however you will be able to tell a difference. If I were getting a ctica and wanted a 7' MH rod, I would get the Bass Pro Extreme Combo. They have the Citica version and the BP rod is a better rod IMO. I know some will disagree but I have fished with the Compre and Extreme and Ill take the extreme anyday plus the combo is a great price right now.
  23. This thread is worthless without pics
  24. Congrats on your fish! That is a GREAT fish especially in your area. I agree that a 24" should be 5-7 pounds. Its hard to tell by pics my guess would be 6-7 pounds but regardless it is an awesome bass. CONGRATS!
  25. Happy B day! It sounds like you had a good one!
