  1. I was looking for reviews on a reel and this site popped up. I am very glad that it did. Awesome site BUT I SPEND WWAAAYYYY TOO MUCH TIME HERE!
  2. Their webpage seems to be working fine. The X Rated is a co-ploymer that they claim is 500% more resistant than mono. It also has a pretty small diameter. I don't know how it hold up but the stuff casts great. I put 15lb on 2 BCs and really like the castability but don't know about its tuffness. http://www.triplefish.net/line/x-rated/index.html
  3. Can anyone give me some reviews on this line. I put it on 2 reels and it casts great. I don't know much about it and haven't really been able to test it. So whats the word on this stuff?
  4. I just wrote a review of the code. It is a good real and isn't heavy. I really like/love the braking ACS II braking system. The easy adjustment of s msg system but the performance of the centrifugal.
  5. Here is some pics but they aren't the best. These are GREAT looking rods and I am surprised they haven't been talked about more. I am not a quantum guy but these have changed my mind a little. Good stuff....
  6. Well, I needed a new rod and reel like a needed a kick to the groin BUT curiousity got the best of me. Plus I haven't bought any quantum gear in a long time and I wanted to give them another shot. SO I bought the Code/Energy PT rod combo from bass pro. Uhm Actually make that 2 of them. I got to spend a little time trying them out and here is my honest review. The code is packed full of some nice features on paper. It has the very nice external centrifugal adjustment, 8 bearings, titanium guide, and offers the burner gear 7.0:1(I didn't get the burner). The reel was much smaller and low profile than it appeared in the adds...which I found very appealing. I paired these reels with two 7 ft energy PT rods. One of them is M one is MH. The reels performance was decent to good. I was throwing a 4" Dinger into some strong winds and had no problem with backlashing. The external centrifigal braking system is a BIG plus to me. I was able to quickly adjust the reel to the wind conditions which made for nice performance. The reel gave me pretty good distance on the cast. HOWEVER, these reels are not near as smooth as they should be..especially having 8 bearings. Most of my reels are shimano and Bass Pro Extremes. Both of these reels are much smoother than the Quantum. But this doesn't effect the performance of the reel IMO. The reel performed well and was easy to fish. In fact, I quickly got used to it and enjoyed fishing with them. They seem to be a good bargain if they hold up. Which only time will tell. Now for the real surprise! The Quantum Energy PT rods!!! I wasn't expecting much but I REALLY liked these rods. Again I bought a 7' M and 7' MH split grip version. Both rods had good action and were very comfortable to fish. They offered good sensitivity and felt a lot less bulky than my Extreme rods and very similar to my buddies Loomis rods. He uses all Loomis and was also very impressed with these rods. Overall, this is a very good combo at a great price. I am not completely sold on the Code yet but I like them and they will make the cut this weekend on the lake. I am, however, very sold and surprised on the rods. So for what its worth, I give the reel a 8 out of 10 and the rods a 9.5 out of 10. -Hawgchaser
  7. Bates has grown to a rather large gas station and tackle shop. BTW... I think I am wrong about the motor restrictions. I can't remember and I live only 20 minutes from there. Now I am thinking about going.
  8. Great interview. One thing that he talked about that stuck with me, was to slow down and work an area. When I am fishing new water, I tend to get in a hurry and move to the next spot trying to establish a pattern. Instead, I need to have confidence in the spot I am currently fishing and stick with it for a little longer. He also just emphasized how darn good KVD is..... Jeff seems like a cool guy and I will pull for him.
  9. Hey Nick, What part of Arkansas are you from? Anyway, IMO the best deal out there is the Baas Pro Extreme Combos. The extreme reels are tough to beat. I have curados, extreme's, a few quantums, and a few Pfluegers. I use the extreme reels 80-90% of the time. However, I am in the minority b/c I think the extreme reel is much better than the Citica. It is certainly a better buy IMO.
  10. Lake Conway is one of the best crappie lakes around. It also has monster red ear bream. Therefore much of the fishing pressure is not on the bass. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of bass fisherman out there but 90% of the boats will be panfishing. I haven't fished Lake Conway in several years. There is a motor restriction and it is VERY tough to navigate. It is covered in stumps and you will need to get a map showing the boat trails. There is a gas station/bait store called Bates(I believe) that will have them. These folks know what the fish are biting so make sure to stop in and ask questions. They have been there for over 30 years. I can't point you in any specific location but I can tell you that I would either pound the bank with a spinnerbait or try to find tree lines on dropoffs and throw a texas rigged brush hog, lizard, or maybe even a senko depending on the color of the water. There are some nice bass in the lake. The dropoffs will not be drastic but more like 4 feet going to 8-10 ft. The bass will hold in these areas. Thats about all I can tell you! Where are you coming from?
  11. We have a few. I'm not from R-Kansas, but I fish Bull Shoals and the White River several times a year and Lake Ouachita occasionally. 8-) Do you fish for smallies on the White? Most people trout fish but there are some nice smallmouth in there that are wwwaaaaaayyyy overlooked. IMO..
  12. Thanks! I haven't seen very many Arkansans on the board.
  13. I am just barely in the club with 2 just over 10. I have many near the 10 mark......8-10lbs but only 2 over. I am confident I will get an 11+ this year
  14. Either a Med or Med Heavy rod will work fine for worm fishing.....Now I like a 7' Med Heavy action rod for larger baits like 10" worms, gitzits, and jigs. I want a very sensitive rod b/c many times especially in colder water, the fish will just sort of pick up the bait off the bottom. For smaller finesse worms with jigheads, floating worms, flukes, etc....I prefer a Med action rod with the same sensitivity requirements. I personally like 7' rods but 6'6" will work just fine. I like the hook set on a 7 over a 6'6 but a the 6'6" is nice when fishing out of smaller boats and from the bank.
  15. I am new as well and this is the best forum I have found. It is great and I have learned many new things already....Welcome
  16. Thanks for the warm welcome! For those that asked, this gal was just squeeked into double digits...don't remember exactly but it was 10 lbs 2 oz i believe. That trip was the best i have ever had, I caught 4 fish over 7 pounds that night!!!!! i will never forget it. It was last spring on a very productive lake in South Arkansas. I love those 10" equila Sunrise Power Worms at night.
  17. I have read a lot about dingers on this forum. I fish with Senkos but they are expensive as heck and last for only 1 or 2 fish. Are the dingers as effective? I have tried many of the other senko like baits and they are ok but just don't have the same action. It seems a lot of people like these dingers and they are cheap!!! So how do they compare?
  18. Hey everyone, this is a great forum and I am very happy to be part of it now. I live in ARkansas and have a place on Greers Ferry. However, I fish many places and like to travel to different lakes and rivers as well. I usually make a trip or 2 per year for fishing...one for bass and one for redfish. Most of my fishing is for blacks, smallies, and hybrids when things get slow. I fish a little bit of everything but usually throw plastics the most. Drop Shot, C Rig, texas rig lizards, spot removers and zoom finesse worms, tubes, flukes, and brush hogs are my primary baits. ANyway just wanted to make an official introduction and let you know that I have already learned quite a bit on this board. I look forward to talkin bass. Here I am so you know what I look like with a nice Arkansas bass.
  19. It will be very hard to describe through words but I skip a lot of flukes and Senkos when fishing boat dogs and low hanging branches. You will want to make a side arm cast and skip the bait like you would a rock. You may want to tighten up the spool or atleast thumb it pretty good while you practice. It does take a little practice to get good at it.
  20. Don't look for it. This is the perfect excuse to buy a new rig!!!
  21. I used to use Big Game and i thought it was a great line. I have been experimenting with different lines lately but BG will serve you well.
  22. I would get the BAss Pro Extreme Combo in both baitcaster and spinning. I have a lot of different rigs including all the big name etccstuff....shimano, quantum, loomis, falcon, all star...etc... I always end up using my extreme combos. I know have 7 or 8 of them total and they are the best value i have found. Here is a post I just made about them http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1207490444
