  1. What type of lures would require that big of a line? I mean, I have gone 20 before, but above that I have never had to use or heard that someone else use it above 20...Interesting though.
  2. I love to cat fish, even though I don't do it very much. I love the challenge of the fight. I use Blue gill meat for the Catfish bait. Around here and where I'm orginally from, those cats tear them apart. Just not at a pond where there is no currents or anything. Like the river, huge creeks or so. They tear em up. If I was catfishin on a pond or lake, well more and likely I'll use Chicken liver.
  3. Well, If I may make a suggestion. Before every fishing trip, if it's a Open bait reel, is to drag the lines out til you have no more line on the spool. And redo it. Only do it slowly, as you reel you should catch the loops that gets tangled. At least that is what I do, espeically with heavier lines like 14 and up. They do have a tendency to loop out and tangle without knowing. I very much doubt its the weather. Well, I hope it all helps out. It does with me.
  4. Yeah I understand, When I looked at my spool it seems that I had no backlash, or anything like that, I kept on casting as I would always do. But when I came to find that one little end sticking out of the spool like that, I think it was a small loop in the spool that snapped the line as it gotten tigther. Well, Hope that helps.
  5. Well, I have been fishing in Mark Twain Lake and bass fished it on several occassions. However, Without the luxury of a boat, I was limited to where I could fish. But I'm not aware of a place around Mark Twain Lake, Except for a La Grange place in the Missouri side I believe. But I'll check it out though. Thanks for the suggestion.
  6. You know that actually happened to me last year when I went out for the week at Mark Twain Lake in Missouri. However, My brother a experienced fisher had stated that sometimes we don't know there is a small backlash in our spool, and all it takes is one small loop within the spool to snap a line inside the spool. Didn't understand him of course, But I do think it's where you cast and reel..each time you reel it in, that loop inside the spool becomes tighter and snaps the line perhaps. Just a thought. Not actually sure.
  7. Alright, I'll certainly try and use that. However, I've never used a Jerkbait or crankbait. Is there a particular method on how to reel those lures in, or do I just do it like a regular Spinnerbait?
  8. I have been praticing this year in a catch and release pond, only with a Spinnerbait. I have caught so far 10 bass in 3 days time. We are fishing off the bank, where it's rocky, near the docks " Which is where I caught most of my bass's. My question is, What other lures is recommended to use in a weather that range from 50 - 60 degrees or 60- 70 degrees.. Any suggestions would be great.
  9. Yep, Thanks for the link. Checked it out, regrettfully there is nothing that I can join around my area. I'm too poor to travel some hour away from me to join a Bass Club. Well thanks again.
  10. Is anyone around this area or been from this area able to answer this?

  12. I have been living here in Quincy for 5 years, started bass fishing about two years ago. I had found a place to fish for bass, however the land owner no longer allows anyone back on the property. So I have no fishing place around here, except for the murky Mississippi River, which I dreadfully hate. So does anyone have any suggestions about a good bass fishing area around Quincy, Illinois?
  13. Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone had any information about Bass Clubs in Quincy or near Quincy Illinois. I'm a newbie compared to most of you guys out there. I only started last year and when I've caught my big ones, I loved it ever since and wanted to do more of this. I don't have a boat or anything like that, but it would be awesome to hang with the guys and improve my skills and what nots. if anyone has any information..greatly appericated.
  14. I don't believe that my lure is too light, I can cast a good ways with it, depending on where I'm casting it. However, I never throw against the wind, always with it. If the wind is blowing towards me, I try and move to the direction that it's blowing. Here lately, I haven't been fishing near the shore, bank, rocky banks or anything, since I'm only catching little ones. So I 've been catching at the least 3 pounders or more by the docks. I changed my fishing line over to 10lbs yesterday..Did I make the right decision?
  15. Haha, Forgive me as I learn the proper terms for fishing. But yes " Backlash." Alright, So I need to adjust the brake control, I'll certainly be doing that and giving it a try. And I live here in Illinois and had some really good catch if I hadn't backlashed. Spinnerbait with trail hook on. However, It was a catch and release pond so sadly I couldn't keep it my fish. No worries, I j ust love to catch them. And I"ll consider using those lines as you mentioned Roadwarrior. And thanks for the welcome.
  16. Sorry, I wasn't more specifc. It is a open face baitcaster.
