No, It was kind of a funny post but I do catfish. I just found this cat on the internet. I use dough when catfishing. All I have caught were a couple hundered bull head. Just started catfishing last year in the fall. So I only got out twice, and I didnt know much.

I love to cat fish, even though I don't do it very much.  I love the challenge of the fight.

I use Blue gill meat for the Catfish bait.  Around here and where I'm orginally from, those cats tear them apart.  Just not at a pond where there is no currents or anything.  Like the river, huge creeks or so.  They tear em up.

If I was catfishin on a pond or lake, well more and likely I'll use Chicken liver.

yea wanted to start catfishing last summer / fall but didnt get the time

I have cought catfish and good fighters some of them so wanted to get serious about it

My dad doesnt like them but I do. Catfish dont sting like bullheads do (or poke)

give whole large shiners a try...they yield some good fish

17lb blue on shiner ->

My buddy caught an albino catfish in the arkansas river, in wichita, kansas.  I like using shad sides, minnows, bluegill, or chicken liver... I really don't catfish that much anymore

Raw shrimp on a circle hook will out catch any bait known to man besides dynamite.

What do you guys use for rod and reel? And nice fish Scott C!!

thanks man!!  :)

I actually caught that guy, a 13, a coulple of 12's and around 10 more between 5-10 lbs on medium spinning gear.  Pfleuger Trion and a BPS Extreme XPS rod w\ 12lb Trilene XT.

I gotta tell ya...i was REALLY impressed with that XT.  We were fishing at the base of a dam, and there was a lot of underwater concrete that the line got rubbed on a lot, and it held up really well!  I retied every so often just in case, but it really did well considering the conditions!!

My actual cat rig is a MH 7' Shimano rod and a South Bend Black beauty spinning reel (POS!).  I got it because it was cheap....its soon being replaced by an Okuma SW spinning reel.  I don't think I'm smart enough to run bait casting reel.   ;D

Hands down best cat bait, cut up "Bloaters", its a great lakes thing.  Biggest cat to date is 27lbs.  Catch a ton in the 10-15lb range.  Normally all we use is your standard bass stuff, only casting about 3/4-1oz weights, and only catching fish in the 10-30lbs range.  #1 circle hooks, awsome hook-up's.  Best time around here is right now, right after ice out till about early to mid may, before the water gets real warm.

You can catch a catfish on anything. I live within 4-wheeler distance of a river. I've caught catfish on hotdogs, shrimp, worms, and even plastics. I've even heard of people using soap. A lot of people do well with chicken livers. I've never used "catfish bait". I like to use a pretty stout rod; one that you'd use pier fishing, or drop fishing the bottom of the ocean.

I like to just use my hands.  It makes it more fair.  Check the post on noodling.  We will be getting fired up in about 2 or 3 more weeks as soon as the water is warm enough to get in without freezing to death.

A friend (he's a member here but,  not an active one)  is a guide on the Potomac River here in MD.  A number of guys have started catching some  big cats here and it is catching on as a dedicated sport.  Two in the last year that set state records for Blues.  65# last year and 67# this year.  7'6" rods and 4000 series spinning reels.  Fresh cut herring,  large shiners,  black salties.  Circle hooks.

"more fair"?  So your saying it's better to have them choke on your fist than to be hooked in the lip?      J/K ;D noodling looks like a lot of fun and I would like to try it some time.
