Bass pro's edorsements, the same or modified?
I did a seminar series in 2005. Larry Nixon was also doing seminars. I asked him that same question and he told me without a doubt things are modified.

Bass Fishing Resume
Nick, I'm going to provide you with a critique of your post, please do not take anything personally. I review resumes for my custom tackle company and I am also sponsored but a bunch of companies on my own. The first thing you need to do once you complete a resume is read it several times and ask yourself...."If I was reviewing this resume, would I be interested in this guy? Does this resume offer me anything different that the ten million others I recieve? Can this guy do anything for my company" If the answer is no, don't submit the resume and keep working on it. I do not think many sponsors would look at a resume on any website and contact a guy unless the resume it spectacular. That said, your resume looks like every other one posted here. Please understand, you can't tell much from this resume. Most companies are looking for someone who has marketable traits and personality. If those facets are not covered, likley the resume is tossed. Like I said, I review tons of resumes and unless one stands out and is not a clone of all the others, it is guaranteed I'll pass on it. I also do not recommend you put this line in your resume... Looking For: Rods Reels Line Soft Baits Hard baits You are trying to sell yourself, not request products. You are also in no position to ask for anything. To some that might be a turn off. Keep in mind this part of the site was set up for guys to post their resumes for critique. Occassionally someone gets a contact. I've gotten a couple myself but that is the extreme not the norm. I recommend you polish up your resume and then actually solicit individual companies for sponsorship rather than hope someone comes to you. If you need help, contact me through pm and I'll help you put something together.-C

List of the biggest documented bass ever caught
Wasn't the Defresco bass stuffed with diving weights? Lots of screwy attempts to cheat the record.

Classic Predictions
I'd like to see KVD or Aaron Martens win it. Edwin Evers is deserving too. I'm not sure about the Clausen thing. Historically speaking before the Elite series was created, the winner of the previous years Classic got an automatic birth to the following years Classic. The logic was that the winner would be out touring and not concentrating on the qualifying fishing so he got a bone. I do not know much about the Elite series because it doesn't really interest me but I do know that FLW had a problem with Clausen fishing BASS and vice versa, wondering if the rule was created to save face and eliminate the FLW's boy, I think I rember him commiting to their season over BASS.

Are they really pro's?
KVD is likley one of the top 2 anglers on the planet as far as career goes. I do not buy into the bisonix thing. Just curious, is he sponsored by that company? It does take a lot of skill to be as consistent as he has been. Sometimes I put the word pro in quotes because some of these guys are just guys who fish the tour, there are about 15 to 20 guys who have truly what it takes to be called professional.

List of the biggest documented bass ever caught
The problem is your line of thinking. You're thinking in the context of what that fish would mean today, not in what it meant back then. If the situation around that fish occured today it would'nt hold water but the fact that it happened the way it did back then isn't surprising. I'm not sure there is aproblem with my thinknig, one would expect a World Record in not just our era but previous eras to come under some form of scrutiny and investigation before it is accepted. If it is held to a lesser standard, why should it be valid today? I find it difficult that several other records have been DQ'd such as the smallmouth record for much smaller questions that arose. Your second paragraph is an example of what I said earlier.....just because those Florida fish are not on that list, it doesn't mean they do not exist. I mean that is not a list of every fish ever caught over 16lbs. Up until yesterday I had no idea that this compilation of fish existed. To someone who simply catches a huge fish, they may not know how to document this fish correctly. Raul, unfortunately you are correct as well. Weakley no doubt caught the largest documented fish, whether it was intentionally snagged or caught correctly or whatever, I do not know, it just won't be certifiied for the WR

List of the biggest documented bass ever caught
Cart, Perry's witness was never found. He gave a name of a person said to exist and that person never came forward to substantiate his catch. There is so much fishy about this record that it simply screams scam. Where to start??? There is not a single picture of Perry holding his fish. That photo of the young boy with the giant fish may or may not be Perry's. I do not believe it has the dimensions necessary to ahcieve world record size. At least one other photo of Perry with a bass is clearly not as large as claimed. He claimed he had photos of himself with the fish when he tried to extort more money and products from the people at Heddon. They never surfaced. Did he lose the photos to document his single greatest lifetime achievement? What bait did he catch it on? He seemed to change his mind about that and said it was three different ones. No fish over 16lbs documented in Ga since is a pretty good indication that this fish is an extreme rarity, even then you'd have to guess at least a couple would follow in its footsteps and come close. The current world record smallmouth was struck down for a period of time because two marina owners claimed the fish was weighed in their marina, not because of anything the catcher did incorrectly. It was a dispute between two outside parties, the fish was documented correctly, phographed, etc. If that factor can disqualify a fish, Perry's fish should be DQ'd or at least have an asterisk next to it stating the discrepincies. Or be the unofficial record. In a time when there are so many rules to follow regarding certifying a world record, it is strange that this stands considering the cloudiness of it all. Perry's story is a great tale that we all want to believe in but there really is nothing more to it than a fish story. There is nothing solid to document it. A photo that he claimed he had with himself holding the catch would quell all of the naysayers. Where is it? Cart I was wondering the same thing regarding state records over 16lbs. We will never agree as to the validity on this fish. With the magnitude of catching a pending World Record bass, I simply can't believe blindly in the Perry record. There are a ton of people who claim to have caught giant bass and when they can't provide proof their tale becomes just another fish story. This is a photo of my 24lber.....OK you got me , its only over 10. lol But at least I have a photo of it.

List of the biggest documented bass ever caught
No disrespect intended Matt, but any list that includes the Weakley bass, is a fraudulent document worthy of nothing more "fishy" than wrapping up the guts after a food fish has been cleaned. I disagree, at least we know this fish actually exists as opposed to the cloudiness of Perry's bass. That record stands only because of lax reg's. It wouldn't ever have stood in todays time with the controversy that surrounds it. Weakley's Fish was a 25.1, there is no doubt about it. Florida has 2 unofficial fish over 20lbs that are not recognized because of a lack of photographic evidence. Perry's fish should never have stood. All of the evidence suggests that this fish never swam in GA waters. No documented GA fish comes close and as you saw in the top 102, Perry's is the only one over 16lbs??? Hard to believe. But I know GA has the record. I'm not venting, I'm just a realist who recognizes a crock of turds when I see it.

List of the biggest documented bass ever caught
Not to high jack mattlures topic but I think Perry's record was God's way of telling us we don't know anything about his creations. That or more likely it is a scam, but we had a huge debate over that last year. In truth, I wonder how many other huge fish were caught without being registered. No doubt Cali is THE home of giants but with only 3 or 4 fish in the top 102, where is Florida? Florida is no slouch. I know of 3 or 4 17+ lb fish caught in my home river system in the past year alone, one was in last years or the year before BPS Master Cat......and that is not the whole state. I'm sure many anglers are clueless as to this lists existance but then again, if you didn't catch the #1 fish, what does it matter? Only a record hunter would register this right? Mike Long is sick! I mean that in a good way. Also is there a reason for so many unknown anglers? I'm hoping there is a list with those unknown anglers names, if not, should they be allowed to be on this list? One interesting name not on the list unless my eyes played tricks on me.....Cali guys?????? Bill Seimantel.

Is this a fair way to offer staffer's a position
I've been reading with much interest lately the different senario's companies offer field staff or promotional staff positions. Some of the ones I've seen want you to pay pretty large amounts to buy their rods or products or even into their philosophy and offer little in return. I have kicked around a few ideas and came up with something I've been using for about two months with my own custom tackle company. Essentially, I'm tired of getting resume's, and some horrible ones at that, from people who obviously are looking for hand outs. I don't have the time to review and correct/ask questions yet I'd hate to pass up someone for their lack of being a good writer. I've settled on the following: For any individual who sends me a resume or pro staff request, I send them to my site to view the info on my field staff program. It outlines what I want and what I offer. These people, if interested send me a request for an application which they then fill out and return to me. If they are still interested, they pay a one time membership fee that covers the cost of a product sample packet/hat and promotional literature from the company. The fee is 35.00, it covers the merchandise. All accepted members also get a field staff price list which offers them discounts on the products. I've been a little tricky and I purposely do not label the packages or colors. This makes the individual have to do his homework by looking on the site and learning each product. I also require these individuals to have any contacts they make who purchase from us to drop their name. If I do not get a name, they do not get credit for the work. In time, if these guys work out, they are offered the next step on the ladder, like a promotion. This of course entitles them to bigger and better things. In all so far I think this has been a very solid idea. I've had 15 serious requests and I've picked up 12 of them. For someone who owns a company, this essentially prevents any loss for giving out samples and really only someone serious about the position will follow thru. It eliminates people looking for handouts. Do you think this is a fair way to go about this? Can it be improved? I've thrown it around with a couple of friends who also own tackle related businesses and they liked it.

best present angler
KVD is currently the best asngler on the trail IMHO with Clunn holding that title over the past 25 years. Nobody else comes close. Ike is a good angler but he has a long way to go and a ton of growing up to do.

Should jig colors match trailer color?
GMan, I've never fished the retard as you called it but I definately fished with a retard. lol

Stealing your name?
Did this all come about because he tried to register it? Perhaps he stirred the hornets nest. I think it is incredible that one can go through something like that.

Ike will be riding in a BASS CAT next year.....
There is no doubt that Ike is a excellent angler and feared competitior however, he's only been around this game on the professional level for a short time. In that time he has shown he is good and accomplished much. However, I can't consider this performance on par with the greats like Clunn, Van Dam, Nixon, Parker, Martin and perhaps one or two others. Longevity and success throughout a whole career is what determines greatness. I think to be fair and to honestly be considered one of the greats, Ike has to perform at his current level for years to come. We'll revisit this in 10 years. RW-To me, he is just another annoying celebrity. Amen, I'm glad KVD doesn't have schtick in his routine. I'm curious that if Ike didn't behave badly/boldly would he be as popular as he is with fans? Certainly some of his peers don't like his act. I mean, Takahiro Omari won a Classic a few years ago and I don't know anyone who is in his fan club. There are a ton of excellent anglers who have many achievements but are not in the public eye because of their antics. My guess would be that Ike would be just a regular guy if he acted like a model tournament angler. Who is the other guy who dyed his hair blonde and acts like an idiot.....forgive me if I'm wrong but is it Gerald Swindle? That guy has been in the public eye because of his Ike impression. So obviously being bold puts you in the public eye and it doesn't matter if you stack up to your competition.

Matt Lures!!!
No doubt these baits are the best swimbaits out there!

You can't compare Ike to the legendary Intimidator. This man is a legend, Ikes tantrums are legendary but he has a long way to go to be considered one of the greats.

Floating Rat L Traps
I prefer the floater to that standard trap. It is perfect to burn over shallow weeds without hanging up. It doesn't float like a top water, it just doesn't sink like a regular trap. When you crank it, it runs a few feet below the surface and kind of suspends. I've never seen it float and rest on top. I think everyone should have a couple.

"Better Bass Fishing the Dave Romeo way"
I'm with Avid on this one I saw the stats on his "World Record Catch". Less than 2% of those fish were over 12 inches. It really is no big deal and in his infamy, a short is called a Romeo on Long Island and through the tournament circles there. There are ponds out there where that record could be broken in a couple of weeks with legal fish but what is the significance of doing that? I don't think he has become a household name in a positive way to bass anglers. I've guided a few clients to 250-300 fish days on one in particular and 75% were keepers. I think it coulds be broken easily if someone really wanted to.

Ike will be riding in a BASS CAT next year.....
Will it have a reinforced flag pole?

Best way to get sponsors?
you must be marketable And you must know how to market yourself. I know a guy who is the absolute clumsy angler, Bill Dance bloopers X10. This guy is not a good fisherman but he holds a bunch of prime sponsors because he knows how to market himself. Catching fish is secondary.

cajun red line
Avid, I'm with you on this. Red line is bunk! If you want something to turn clear, how about fishing with clear line first?? Makes sense right! If you remember when this line was first advertised it was touted as the line that acts like a lure.......I think they were talking up it blood like color and not the fact that red filters or dampens out as light decreases. I fish in clear water. This line will be seen as red even in 10 to 12 feet of water. That would hurt more than help.

Anyone have a contact in Japan?
Allen, go on eBay and do a search for ginrin peche. He has a tackle shop in Japan and might even sell those colors. Tell him I sent you. This guy is really great with these things.
