TOPO MAPS???
I just checked out google maps for Lay Lake, and it was not very good for topo references. Like already stated, look at local shops for a map. Another option is, I know at the walmart here in Middle Tennessee, they have a lake/river systems map for fishing. It is a big book that shows almost all the waterways in Tennessee topographically and even small creeks that sometimes I did not even know existed. It is about $30 bucks. Maybe they have that at your walmart for your state. It does not hurt to check. Also i now use a handheld GPS i bought for backpacking. I bought a unit that allows me to put a MicroSD card with all the preloaded water ways for the whole southeastern USA. The unit was cheap on Amazon, but the card costed me a bit more. But this way i can see the elevation and channels as well as mark fishing spots. I hope this gives you some options.

Fishing without a boat in Middle Tennessee
what are the dimensions?

Catfish Bait
X2- on the stockings/panty hose. i also used hot dogs (beef franks, turkey franks, whichever) and catch mudcats or yellow belly cats most commonly known as bullhead i am sure though. and if you get a good 6-8in one, cut the fins off him enough to make him bleed and throw him on a hook. catfish are cannibals as well. small chanel cats work well too in the same method. i personally would take the live blue gill for flat heads. and my buddy yesterday when we were bass fishing was drop shotting a 3in Berkley Gulp shad/minnow, and caught two nice blue cats. hope this helps a bit.

Fishing without a boat in Middle Tennessee
what i can suggest is to save up a couple hundred dollars. there are plently of 12-16ft flatbottom jon boats for sale on craigslist fairly cheap. you can atleast get a hand controlled trolling motor. there is a guy up at the steam TVA steamplant in cumberland city who has a canoe and paddles out from a boat ramp into a creek that opens up into a big dual sided cove and into another creek. he wears out crappie all the time. i am sure you can do good on bass too. there plenty of 8ft-18ft drops offs in that area that you can catch decent 3lbs+. and a few rock walls. i dont know how safe it is to go on the main river with just a trolling motor. i personally would not do it. but this just gives you another inexspensive option. that is if you have a truck too. also do you guys know of that lake where you can rent a jon with a little motor? is it marrowbone? or is it old hickory? i cannot remember. if you need any help i can find you some deals. i am on it non stop

Took my new rod out last night
i myself have only been twice and i am 1/2. bagged a gar. the main thing to do as your mindset already is is to practice. it makes a world of difference on your aim depending on how high above the water you are in your boat and the angle of the fish, distance the fish is from you, as well as the depth of what you are shooting. BOWFISH12 likes to take us in 2ft of water and when i shoot my arrow pile drives into the rock and clay and ruins my new arrow tips. so watch your depth too if you are worried about the longevity of you gear

Finding Bass in smaller rivers and creeks.
as far as creeks i have had luck on poppers in the morn and evening casting around tree trunks that are submerged or overlying trees in 1ft-3ft of water. when getting into deeper water with a mild current i have been using 10in worm texas rigged carolina rigged trick worm and everynow and then a football jig and trailer of your choice. remember to think about lure color choice to go with the water clarity. i am not sure if you are in a boat or whatever but if you have access to the mouth of the creek find the drop offs at the mouth and use plastics or even a crankbait dives according to the drop off depth. hope that helps you a bit

Creek Smallmouth
Have had luck with trailered spinners, poppers early morning, pumpkinseed and green pumpkins 4in power grubs. And then four in power tubes on a jig head. Don't forget finding crawdads for those deep holes!

How Come There is No Smallmouth Down South?

XBOX LIVE???
The only acheivement I have left is Mile High on Veteran (MW). Tried it last night but can't get past the first set of guys after you go up the stairs. > FREE?!?! i wish it would go free but i already renew my year gold. so i doubt that will happen or they will have to refund alot of money. i think it is just a routine maintenance thing. and use ALOT of flashbangs and try about 400 times and do quick swaps instead of reloading if possible and pick up the dead guys guns usually they half atleast a half clip. i did it in like 30 or so tries

Is this a bass?
From myself college educated. no dictionary needed: non-identical: adjective synonym: unidentical terms: unresembling, contrasting, counter, (easily) unalike. i am adding: not alike in nature. only thing close in nature is both being in water and schooling and sometimes when crappie build crappy beds for eggs if not putting them on plants. i was not trying to down you i was just curious as to how you saw the two were "similar" and wanted to see a picture, because i know in some states anglers call crappie all sorts of different things including "rock bass" and i was under the impression this is what you call them. and i will "have at'em"! i am an angler of all species. it is more knowledge and techniques to get involved in which is why i like to fish. the challenge. ;D

lake Erie (Do you think that the spawn is over
i know that post-spawn smallmouth usually go back to the "cooler" water preferrably with some sort of current or rocks. if you can locate and area like that fish some jerk baits (dead sticking) or carolina rigged plastics. i have caught quite a few in 4-10 foot of water like this using top water plugs early in the morning till almost 10:30. but again not sure of your lake conditions this will just hopefully give you an option good luck

How the heck..
when i fish jigs i have come to the procedure to keep the line tight when i feel the slight bit of difference at the other end and quickly watch the line to see if it is swimming off in a different direction then set the hook hard and fast. if you are not fast enough A) from the amount of pressure you are putting on the rod for feel could have the bass quickly drop the jig or, he may end up swallowing the jig resulting in a gut hook. so you want to make a quick sense of things and reaction when you feel the slightest bit of difference. IMO it works great for me. hope that helps a bit

Lures you DON'T use?
have a good size collection of spinners, buzzbaits, poppers, rattle traps, but only fish with soft plastics (worms, flukes, grubs and craws) and one Bomber Model A, one specific popper. the rest just sit there ready to be used but not by my friends that get hung up all the time. rather spend money and have it sit there than get hung in a tree or and underlying log >

Name this hook
i was going to correct myself and say it was a mustad ultra lock ewg but the angle by the eyelit is not as bent. i am definitely going to say it is a gamakatsu ewg worm hook not the superline obviously since you have that already. just brink the hook to cabela's or bass pro or something and start comparing packages
-
Name this hook
it looks exactly like my 4/0 gamakatsu's i use all the time, but i bought in bulk so i do not have the packages to give a more precise answer

Is this a bass?
really?? send a pic of the crappie out your way. here and everywhere else i have been there is not one close resemblance to a rock bass in a crappie. the black crappie are black and greyish and a bit of white with spots. and then the white crappie are white obviously and a hue of green and blue mixed with spots. also the black nose crappie which is like a white crappie with a big blackish brown thick line running from the top of his lips to the dorsal fin. i am very interesting in see what you see
-
Took my youngest out today(results)
great pic and story. glad to see she had a great time.
-
Is this a bass?
no way at all. definitely a rock bass (red eye bass) creeks are full of them. fight exceptionaly well on ultra gear
-
Why is this bass' anal fin red?
it has to do with the spawn, possibly healing after digging the beds and what not. i catch alot like that post-spawn

How to avoid deep hooking with senko's?
IMO if you just pay close attention to your situation with your line in the water you should be able to get away without gut hooking a fish. for instance when you throw your line out and there is slack from the sinking lure watch or feel for taps in the line. bass usually do a tap tap kind of action to your lure. you will be able to feel it or see you line move tight and loose when this happens. the bass usually peck at the lure a few times to see if they actually want to eat it. when you feel or see this action slowly reel it in to remove the slack and slightly bring the rod back making sure you keep a sense of feeling and when you feel straight weight and no pecks set the hook and make sure you do it quick. that means he is usually decided he is going to consume his food and then its fish on! also you will have some bass that just hit it hard when it hits the water and do not even bother to test the lure. that is why you have to pay attention to your sight and sense of feeling. hope that helps you a bit.

Power Worms
never really fished weightless with a 7" power worm. i would go with the 10" but you could keep the 7" and 1/8oz bullet wieght and instead of variable speed reeling in, cast it out let it go to the bottom and reel the slack in the line to where it is tight with the rod and then pull the rod from and angle of 9 or 10 o'clock to 11 to almost 12 and bounce it a little bit as you move it. then tighten up the line each time you do this method and fish it slow and you will catch alot of big fish. you just have to be patient. oh and directly infront of you assume it is 9 o'clock and straight up is 12. this is my very productive method of using the power worm. hope it gives you an option

anyone using the zoom trick worms?
i have used the bubblegum for awhile but since then i have this season only been using "limetreuse" and yellow. i never t-rig them i go weightless 4/0 and fish i like a fluke. i used regular 10" power worms for t-rigs. these worms have plenty of action. also when wieghtless you can run them like a topwater in the weeds and drop them into the holes and produce fish. that is what i did yesterday came out with 3 nice LM. also you can try using a splitshot rig for fishing drop offs and it works really well.
