  1. You said it was a deeper running boat than most jons so i am assuming it is a v-hull not a flat bottom? what are the dimensions 16x??. And what brand? Is it riveted aluminum or all weld hull? As far as the trailer tires, what is the condition of the trailer lights? The angle of the tongue? (as in not bent or twisted and are they submersible trailer lights?) Does the boat have lights? A bilge pump atleast? How is the transom? Does the guy even have a title in hand or is he one that says he has a bill of sale to give you or lost it? There are alot of things you need to take into consideration, because even the things that dont seem to be that big of a deal like lights, bilges, and anything else minor could end up costing you alot more than you may want to spend out of pocket and take up more time for you to get on the water.
  2. I just recently had this happen to me (within the past week). I had the carbs cleaned and tuned obviously in a half-@#$ed manner. I was only able to achieve half throttle and at full throttle it would bog and die. Then start up to idle it would die as well. I went through and noticed a couple of things. 1) even though i had new spark plugs, my oil-gas mixture was off just a hair fouling out my plugs. 2) Also figured that I had a high speed jet clog seeing that i could not achieve full throttle. So (assuming yours is a 2-stroke) i filled my 6gallon tank to exactly six gallons. The MAX FILL line on the tank is not actually six gallons. Therefore the mixture was getting messed up with my ratio 50:1 or 2.56oz of oil to one gallon of gas. Or close to 16oz to six gallons. I also added seafoam treatment to the gas. I tightened down all the fittings to the clamp ends as well as the primer bulb because I heard air passing through somewhere when I squeezed to prime. I took it on the water and after about five minutes trying to throttle up I felt the seafoam push whatever was clogging the carbs up shoot through the system and I can now get full throttle and the bogging stopped. Seafoam works wonders!! Recommended use! Also if there is a reason to have the steel tank, like to fit where ever the tank is supposed to accessible, there is a product kind of like a primer sealer deal that you put in the tank and shake it around to re-coat the interior to rid of rust. You can go that route or just buy a new plastic tank. Hope this gives you some more options in your process. good luck!
  3. Congrats man! Your earnings per number of tournaments fished put some of those guys to shame. Keep it up. Good Luck!

  5. Welcome to BR! Looking forward to getting some better tips on the striper in this region!
  6. I was fishing in my friends dads' airport farm ponds, and I caught a snapping turtle on a rattle trap. It took me a good 20+ minutes to get the hook out of his mouth.
  7. I need some suggestions if you will on where to mount my transom transducer. I got a new depthfinder than what was on the boat when I got it. I searched through the internet and found some instructions that say to keep it away from turbulent water and what not. Also, they say to mount it on the center line of the hull bottom, with the center line of the transducer. Well I have done that, and I now have a 10ft rooster tail. Anyways, any suggestions on where to mount it would be appreciated? I have a 14.3ft phantom fiberglass bass boat. This is the website I pulled the info off of and I have it mounted like the right picture exactly as the one noted "good" on the right side. http://www.fishfinderdiscounts.com/page/fishfindertransommount Thanks in advance. Edit: Although mine is not a v-bottom like the picture, I tried to make it somewhat similar.
  8. Welcome to BR! Hey not to far from me. Maybe you can join in on our minor buddy tournaments we have on KY/Lake Barkley. Nothing major or fancy, just some people testing each others abilities and winning some cash!

Not sure on what you are trying to get across, but welcome to BR!
  10. Welcome! You chose a great site to obtain the information you need!
  11. Welcome to a great site!
  12. I have had "Luck" with the FNF technique for smallmouth bass in the summer, which I use hardcore in the winter. And this was fishing rock wall drop offs on the river, so I would like to call it luck. But it still suits me well when i fish in the creeks i wade around here for big smallies.
  13. Are you restricted to bank fishing? Are you fishing a pond/lake/river?
  14. In that situation I would approach it T-rig 10.5" worm as that is 95% of the fishing that I do. As you stated with the rocky bottom as well as rip-rap you might be able to drop shot creature baits in hope to catch some small mouth, maybe throw a jig and pig combo. Also if I could steer clear of the "wood", I would possibly throw Lucky Craft DDR 2.5 as well.

  17. Welcome aboard Darryl! Glad to hear you are content with your boat. Maybe after you mod it you can post some pics in the show your ride section!
  18. Welcome to BR . As for smallmouth, why do you not take a look in the smallmouth bass fishing section and look at the topic "start up musts for smallmouth," (i think that is what it is called). RoadWarrior is top notch on those bronzebacks as well as the other guys who posted. It surely would not hurt to take some advice from them. Good Luck!
