Let's Play "remember When"
Remember when ~ Blue Stren was Very Good Line. ~ You Never Ever sharpened a hook and forget about upgrading stock trebles. ~ Picking night crawlers off the lawn at night was almost as much fun as fishing. ~ putting fish on a stringer was the coolest thing ever . . . . A-Jay

Kayak Night Fishing For Bass
I fish at night all summer from a canoe. Here's my advice. Wear your Life Jacket (PFD) all night. Tell someone where you're going, when you'll be back and who to call if you don't show up. Have at least 1 back up light - a red lens on the light/head lamp will help with your night vision. It really helps to know the water you plan on fishing at night very well. - the better you know it - the safer and more successful you'll be. A good way to get your feet wet on night ops is to get to a lake you're familiar with a couple of hours before sunset. Fish the spots you plan on visiting at night. Stay as night falls and then go fish the same spots again in the dark. You might find out that most everything looks different in the dark. Your depth perception is challenged. You'll need to know exactly where you are, what your looking at, which way your boat is facing and how far the target you're casting to is. Otherwise, you'll be launching casts into places you'd never think of doing during the day; Over docks, into trees, 50 ft up the bank - you get the idea. As for moon lit nights; for me dark nights are better fishing. Moonlight nights with cloud cover are good too. Full Bright moon is like the sun - so fish it that way. Look for shadow lines . Fishing docks can be good too. It's a different world but the fishing can be rewarding. One last thing, being a successful night time bass angler definitely made be better during the day. Good Luck A-Jay

Hello and Welcome to BR ~ As already mentioned, a weightless Senko / Stick type bait is a very good option in that kind of situation. A-Jay- What Did You Catch Your Pb On?

Check out the Alpena area - though not the U.P. the Major League Fishing anglers had a blast Hammering very respectable Smallies over there the end of August last year. http://www.majorleaguefishing.com/news_details.aspx?id=2905 A-Jay- Are You In The "fish Your Strengths School" Or "become Versatile" School?
As a multi-species angler, when utilizing many of the different techniques, fishing assorted habitats and angling locations, ones "strength" spectrum can't help but widen; there's a ton of cross over. There are techniques I enjoy more than others , but I'll pretty much do what ever I need to, to put fish in the net. Also fishing from a smaller vessel limits what one can bring each trip so I have to narrow down which presentations I believe (hope) will be productive. I've been wrong almost as many times as I've been right on what to bring; especially if I haven't been out in a week or so. The "just in case rods, reels & tackle box" seems to get bigger every season. Don't know if it's because I'm comfortably fishing several different techniques or if I'm just clueless . . . . .maybe both. A-Jay- New Guy From Virginia
Hello and Welcome to BR ~ A-Jay- Which Square Bill
I did start fishing the X75 very early on in cold water. A slow crawl worked very well. But as the season has progressed I've continued to throw it and it just continues to catch. I am very impressed with this (and all) the 6th sense baits. To answer your question, since the bait is flat sided and runs tight as opposed to a wide wobble, you can defiantly burn it right along. One of my favorite features of the bait is the "Subtle" but distinct knocker in the bait that attracts with out spooking fish in clearer water. A-Jay- Which Square Bill

And A-Jay- New Jig Presentation
The senko Jig trailer, wacky or straight is not a common presentation but not really new. Guides south of the border have been doing it for a while. I'll admit that before fishing there I hadn't done it and thought it was weird when I fish fished it. Until the bass in my avatar ate a 1/2 jig with a 7 inch senko trailer ~ then I became a big fan . . . . A-Jay- Shimano Stopping The Lifetime Warranty As Of 8-1-14
Does all of this fall in line with the Shimano Mission statement ? Right from their web site - interesting. To promote health and happiness through the enjoyment of nature and the world around us. Fishing Rod warranties are like being on a wild Roller coaster ride . . . . . When you get off you realize all your money flew out of your pockets . . . . . A-Jay- Percentage Wise How Do You Catch Most Of Your Fish On A Swim Jig: On The Drop Or Retrieve?
Well that's a matter of opinion. But the Rodent as a bait does not really excel at Swimming. So as a trailer on a Swim Jig it's not adding to or complimenting the action of the over all presentation except perhaps on the fall. Just try some of the swim bait trailer suggestions you've received here. The bait will still draw strikes on the fall but the number of fish you get on the retrieve will probably go Way Up ~ A-Jay- Percentage Wise How Do You Catch Most Of Your Fish On A Swim Jig: On The Drop Or Retrieve?
On the retrieve and it's not even close - probably like 95% You mentioned you're using a Rodent as a trailer. Though a nice plastic, that bait is Not really a good Swimmer. For me that style bait works excellent on the drop which might explain your results. Baits like a Skinny Dipper, Little Dipper, A grub, an Eeliminator, even a Swim Senko offer a presentation that adds quite a bit to the action of a swim jig.
