Ice out lures
I rarely 'downsize' when it comes to jerkbaits. I'll fish most of the season with what I guess would be considered full sized jerkbaits. Which IMO, stands to reason, as I'm looking for full sized bass. No desire to sore-lip a bunch of short fish, which is what often happens to me throwing undersized baits. Baits include but are not limited to: LC pointers And DD in 100,110, 112, 115, 124, 127, & 128. Every once in a while I'll go down to a LC 95 or 78 size. SK KVD 300 & the Deep Diver. Smithwick Perfect 10 Rogue and Rattling Rogue, 6th Sense Provoke 106DD, Duo Realis Jerkbait 110SP & 120SP, Megabass Ito Vision 110 and 110+1 Jerkbait. The 6-4 PB came on a LC 128 - just say 'in. Greatest lure ever made?
Nick Creme invented the first softbait in worm form 77 years ago back in 1940, using vinyl, oil, and pigments. The Crème Worms remain a fish catcher today. btw - a stick worm or Senko, is still a worm. A-Jay

Power Pro braid to Mono conversion help
Basically ~ What I usually do is buy braid spools that are at least 300yds (but often more as I have a few reels) Then I'll fill the reel first with economy mono just under half full. Then fill the rest with the new braid. Takes a little of the guess work out of it. As the braid wears and it's needing replacement, I'll end for end the braid down to the mono backing. This puts the old braid at the bottom and the new/unused braid on top ready to fish. Quick & easy way to extend the life of the line and can even be done on the water should the need arise. A-Jay

Power Pro braid to Mono conversion help
The Braid to mono size conversion charts for each manufacturer seem to vary a bit. The One Constant is that the braid's actual diameter is routinely a little bigger than what is advertised. Unfortunately this reality makes any truly & flat out dependably accurate conversion mostly like a pipe dream. I've struggled with it in the past myself and have resigned to the fact that there will be a decent amount of guess work involved regardless of the brand or size. What has worked for me is to add one size to the advertised number. In other words, if the braid is said to be the size of 8lb mono - expect it to really be closer to 10 lb mono. Like I said, nothing you can take to the bank, but it will at least get you in the door. Good Luck and may the force be with you .. .. .. .. A-Jay

Chatterbait freedom
My experiences with that bait have all been positive and have made be a believer and a fan. Hook up ratios with most any bait can & usually are improved with the right set up. Which in many cases, is a personal preference, especially with this style of bait. However, because of the hook size on these, (often fairly stout wire) an under-sized set up (rod & line) could contribute to poor hook penetration which no one (except perhaps the bass) likes. A-Jay

I would have to expect Roger, that this is a serious violation. One that the Fishing Fashion Police would have no choice but to cite the offender with a 'stiff' fine. A-Jay

Fishing steep points
Regardless of the technique, the easiest & most effective way for me to maintain bottom contact while presenting a bait on a steep or even moderate grade, is to position the boat shallow, cast out to the deep and fish "Up Hill". Isn't always possible or even necessary, but when it is - this generally works; especially during cooler water periods or when fishing pressured bass. YMMV A-Jay

Spoonplugging by Buck Perry
For anyone who is or wants to be more than a 'casual' bass angler - the book is a must read. The information & presentation is dated but extremely viable - and will be forever. My own fishing has benefitted greatly from the info. YMMV I have not read the 'program guide'. A-Jay
