A lighter will work just fine.

Braid is your #1 choice when fishing topwater sahd or frogs. They increase your hook-ups by at least 35 to 40 percent easy. Trust me I know I started fishing frogs on mono and then I switched to braid and what a difference it made!!!

I like lowrance alot more then the other options.

Don't just jump into buying a boat... I did that my first time and it took me forever to get things right with it. But make sure you shop around before you actually buy one. It may take a while to find the best boat but winter time is usually the best time to buy one since most people are trying to sell their boats for hunting equipment.

The baitfish will bring in the big bass. I have always have luck fishing grasslines and dropoffs where the baitfish are present. Small baitfish are not very smart that is why the larger bass prey on them, They still do not know what to do when they are confronted by a large bass therefore giving the bass an easy meal. JMPO but I think I'm sort of right.

I also have a mix of where the hook is in the fish's mouth. I try my hardest to set the hook as soon as I beleive it is time but sometimes I let the hold the bait to long and that is when I hook'em in the belly. But I was always told if you hook a fish though the top of the lip that, that is what the fish are wanting to eat... Is that true?? :-?

I'm no fish doctor myself either but I have hooked quite a few through the eye. One time I even had the eye sitting on the tip of the hook with it not even attached to the fish!!! I felt terrible but he wasn't dead so I threw him back I hope they don't die of this type of hooking. 8-)

I started out bass fishing using small baits to get my confidence up. Now I fish huge baits for huge fish. But I would start out with some senkos.. If you do not like a bait caster then use a spinning reel they are what I started out on and I just upgraded to bait casters this last year, and I am still learning them. Bass fishing can be the most fun you have evr had and it can be the most difficult thing you have ever done. Good Luck to You!!!
