  1. I am pretty much a dobyns guy exclusively but I do have a Powell 735 just for my frogs and I have to say it would be hard to find a better frog rod out there especially in this price range. Get one and i'm sure u will be happy. 8-)
  2. Just a guess but I think his secret is in his username. "420angler" :-? 8-)
  3. Dude it's 2.50 for 9 hooks what do expect. I have personally paid alot more for baits that were pieces of u know what. It's part of fishing. The old saying goes u get what u pay for. 8-)
  4. Can't go wrong throwing a frog with this stick. Also it can do double duty as a pitching/flipping stick. But it excels throwing the frog.....! 8-)
  5. I think it comes down to where u fish at.... If ur fishing in a place with lots of mats and thick grass u definately need a permanent flipping setup. Since I mainly fish the cal delta I always have a flipping stick, and a frog rod. Usually these two techniques go hand in hand for me because ur fishing the same areas with both. Frog on top and beaver on bottom. 8-)
  6. Here we go again......! Ur gonna get plenty of responses for both. It comes down to there's daiwa guys and shimano guys and they are gonna say one is better than the other. It's all about personal preference. I have used both and i sold the zillion to get another curado. So I am a shimano guy. 8-)
  7. For the baits ur talking about i would go a shimano 300 D/E. Or also if u want a good reel for a bargain go for a Cardiff. I use both and have been happy with both. I think people think they have to get a 400 sized reel to throw the big baits but personally I think a 300 size one is perfect. 8-)
  8. Get a better reel and then DONT TELL UR WIFE......! What she don't know will not hurt her. 8-)
  9. Well for the $5 that u spend on the soldering iron u could have went out and got u a bottle of MEND-IT. I'm surpised that nobody even recomended it for a cheap fix of all plastics. This stuff u don't need to have a plug in it never runs out of lighter fluid and u can do quickly on the boat. To me this is one of the biggest break throughs in fishing because the price of rubbers is crazy. One bottle could literally save u a $100
  10. Mono and floro for punching? I've heard it for flipping but nothing under 50lb braid for punching and out here on the cal delta nothing under 65lb. This is not a technique to be using whimpy gear or ur gonna get heart broke. If ur gonna do it and be successful u need to get urself a 7 1/2ft-8ft rod atleast mag heavy. Perferably a 7:1 gear ratio reel with the drag locked down. Only TUNGSTEN weights and straight shank flipping hooks with a bait keeper. If u use EWG hooks ur gonna loose fish because with that big weight above is going to block the hook from hooking into the fishes skin. The biggens love being tucked under those mats so u have to be prepared or like I said before u might just watch ur personal best break u off......! 8-)
  11. Shimano reels, dobyns or powell rods, seagur line, GYM plastics, lucky craft hard baits. Oh and mattlures, huddleston, and 3:16 Swimbaits. 8-)
  12. today with the advantage of florocarbon and the thin diameter of braid why not go a little heavier. Floro has the advantage of being harder to see in water than mono so why not go a little heavier in test. Also I don't know where most of u fish but fishing the cal delta mostly where every cast could be a 10lber and has some of the nastiest cover out there I don't go with anything less than 14lb. And when I'm flipping, punching or frogging no less than 65lb power pro. In real clear water I usually downsize. Even then I usually go 30lb braid with leaders of mono or floro depending on what presentation I'm doing. I say take advantage of what's available and I think it's always better safe than sorry.
