Students who don't want an education don't deserve an education. Student athletes have been given a great opportunity. Some choose to take advantage of it. Some abuse it. If an athlete chooses to only work hard enough to stay eligible, then more power to him. He's only hurting himself. I really don't see that colleges have a "duty" to educate student athletes. We all have a duty to educate ourselves. The main problems come about when universities start to falsify documents in order to keep them eligible.

Well we use O2 as a final electron acceptor. For you non science guys: Our energy(ATP) production is limited by the amount of oxygen we have. It's mainly used in metabolism pathways. The reason why this is just ridiculously awesome is that the bacterium is actually building its cellular structure using this stuff. Organisms usually use sugars and phosphates to construct a majority of their DNA, but this thing is using arsenic. I guess it's chemically possible, but it still blows my mind. I love science.

Thanks for the info and encouragement. I might look into getting a used pack off ebay. Basically, I'll only be hiking for a short period (maybe 20 or so miles at a time) to get to camp. All I'll have to take with me is clothes, sleeping bag/pad, first aid, etc. Root beer: I had the opportunity to go to NZ this summer too with one of my bio professors. It's for a month too. Maybe another year. Plane tickets are expensive. ;D

I'm going to Africa this summer, and needless to say I'm looking for a good pack to take with me. Can anyone recommend one? I'll be staying in Lesotho (it's cold there) so a larger pack will be necessary. Thanks guys.

Now that I'm in college, I guess I'm starting to mature a little bit. I guess you could say I'm spoiled (aren't all Americans?). I've always recieved to much and given way too little as a kid, but I'm trying to turn that around. In the past year or so I've begun to absolutely loathe materialism, so I'm begging my parents to give to a needy kid this year instead of me. I honestly don't NEED anything... I'm going to try to slow down this year and appreciate Christmas. Everybody has made it too stressful. It's not about buying your kid the most expensive/hard to find gift. It's about spending time with your family (and, of course, the spiritual meaning that started it all). But with that being said... I've asked for a new study bible and a good pair of hiking boots. ;D

Well thanks, that made my day. I feel honored. But math has always been my weakness. I can do Calculus, but I have trouble doing simple arithmetic and algebra. Calculators have spoiled me.
