  1. Nice looking Ranger Cmiller, and looking at the pictures brought back fond memories of my 373V. Hope you have the same experience with that solid fishing platform. Only concern I'd like to say to keep an eye out for is I did break a leaf spring on my boat trailer an hour from the house on the way to go fishing. Good fishing
  2. Blood Knot, which is similar to Uni to Uni and is easy for me to tie. A drop of Krazy glue doesn't hurt.. Updated..Just broke off a good fish at the knot last week. Thanks everyone, using the Alberto now. Continued good fishing, JB
  3. CaliBassRipper, I was kinda surprised seeing you lipping that Squawfish. I've caught them and they had 1/4" needle like teeth just like a pike. Stands to reason that's how they got the name. The Colorado Pikeminnow (Squawfish) inhabited the rivers of the Western United States and can grow up to 6 feet in length and weigh up to 80-100lbs. Up on the Columbia and Snake rivers, Washington and Oregon have instituted a bounty program on Pikeminnow to their preditation of juvenile salmon smolts as they migrate to the ocean. It's a sliding pay scale starting at 1-25 Pikeminnows pays $5 a fish topping out at 201+ paying $8 a fish. Watched fishing show where two state biologists said one fisherman made almost $100K through the program.
  4. Pure numbers of bass last year, for me it's a 7" Roboworm.....
  5. Serious chunks XzyluM, looks like the five "right" bites. You definitely have it down and looking at the picture Bluebasser86 posted, that's an awesome looking jig.
  6. Haha, gulf captain is right about the rain gear. I figured you'd have it at the ready but didn't want to mention (for fear of the jinx) the Shasta tourney a few years back when the boats had 1+ foot of snow on the deck. I wanted to fish the Delta event as a co-angler, but can't due to a nice problem- my youngest is graduating from college that weekend. Good luck to both of you through out the series, JB
  7. Dr. G, a LOT of spots with some smallies. I think your one the right track as you prepare for the tourney. My understanding for this time of year is swimbaits and jigs will get your better fish. Good luck and much success in the tourney. You fishing the Delta and Clear Lake tourneys as well?
  8. Can't comment on these particular seats moguy1973, when I ran into this situation with my boat I got the bench seat from the manufacturer. I'm sure someone has experience with these particular seats and can give a honest opinion. If cost and quality is comparable to OME, it's a nice problem to have.
  9. ghost, thanks for bringing up this topic. I just ordered some mushroom heads and Ned rig plastics from TW to try out the technique. I had to scratch my head over the mushroom head weight chart listing. Any idea what Zman went with that weight scale? Am I in the ball park with 1/5, 1/6, 1/10 'shroom heads?
  10. Very cool lure and history Hootie. I thought you might appreciate these. Last time I can remember them being wet was on a stock pond in North Carolina in 1966....
  11. I use two rods for dropshoting depending on where I'm fishing. I'll use a spinning rod on lakes and a baitcasting rod I need to be a little more precise with my presentation. MOn my spinning rod, I'll spool up with 20lb Power Pro with a leader of Super Sniper or InvizX in 4lb to 8lb test. My baitcasting rod has Super Sniper or InvizX 10lb to 17lb test depending on time of year and water quality. Pretty much use a 1/0 -3/0 straight shank worm hooks which I shrink wrap a rebarb keeper.
  12. Thanks again for help and ideas. I thought about the stainless screw w/washer set up, but didn't want to drill any more holes in the boat than I had to. I didn't use Velcro due to how expensive it would be for the amount I thought I'd need to use. Not to mention the glue was extremely strong /tacky and might damage the carpet I was trying protect. I went with double sided carpet tape, a product designed (go figure) to prevent a rug from moving when layed on top of a carpet. I'm not sure if the tape can be used more than once, but a roll of 75 feet cost $8.98. I don't think I'll use it all... Good fishing
  13. Junyer357, thanks for posting this topic as it reminded me of fishing with my dad and our ground rules. A dollar for the first fish in the boat and a dollar for the biggest fish of the day. About a month a go I was cleaning out the boat and found the little container with "my winnings", an inch high stack of $1 bills. And of course our discussions of insisting on paying for fuel, lunch and launch. Most of the time I believe I lost graciously cause it was like fighting city hall.... As Basspro3106 mentioned about launch fees, I thought $10.00 was pretty much the standard going rate. Kinda envious of buzzed bait down there in Georgia. Here in Cali, we get to pay a bridge toll when towing our boat of $15 for a single axle trailer or $20.00 for a dual axle trailer. Which I have to do to get to Clear Lake or Lake Berryessa. Not to mention the quagga/zebra mussle inspection fees depending on the lake... Bottom line, I'm always appreciative when someone offers to share some the cost. Good fishing
  14. I'd agree with WIGuide's post, which would definitely be a help if you wanted to do it yourself or make it easier for the shop doing the work. The forums and You tube has videos which may be helpful if you'd like to do the work yourself. Be aware marine carpet come in various "weights" depending on manufacturer, which can come into play regarding the wear life of your carpet. I just had my boat's carpet replaced and the shop was going to use 18oz carpet when the boats manufacturer uses 24oz carpet. And if you're gonna buy the carpet yourself, as the shop explained to me, the carpet can be sold by the "running" yard or "square" yard. Good luck with your project
  15. 3/8oz or 1/2 in the cylinder or finesse style depending on bottom composition.
  16. Phenix or Bobby D's "grinder" in white, blk/blue, or green pumpkin with a swimming senko....
  17. Congratulations Bass newborn on a fine looking boat and financial savvy in buying it! I'm sure it will be a great fishing platform for years to come. Good fishing, JB
  18. Gotta throw a frog, spook, or splash-it for the green fish. And a lunker punker for stripers....
  19. Thanks guys, I'll let you all know how it works out. JB
  20. Thanks for all the good info 'cause it's a very cool bait. I guess I'll have to commit to throwing it a heck of a lot more. Do you recommend throwing it on braid or mono?
  21. Using my electronics more effectively to locate fish holding deep..... And trying out the Ned rig
  22. Rooster tails, Mepps, and Panther Martins all work from shore. I would also suggest trying a 1/4oz gold or silver kastmaster. Casts for distance, gets to the strike zone quickly, looks like a little minnow or shad, and has good action on the retrieve. Plus, you can jig for bass with 'em. Good luck on your fishing trip
  23. Haven't trout fished in a while, but I would use the Berkeley glitter green or glitter chartreuse with added silver glitter from Walmart. An inflated nightcrawler on a sliding sinker rig for lake fishing on 4lb test was the ticket back in the day....
  24. Hey gardnerjigman, I like your analogy. And I agree if you're not going to replace the roof it's much easier to replace the tiles if you've got extra tiles. It's much easier, and in my case more cost effective to replace the carpet than the boat. And that is why I was asking if the Velcro idea would work on the carpet or if someone another/better solution. I attached a photo (trying to figure this tablet technology out) of a mat that I jigged out of a piece of carpet remnant. I guess my next step is the Velcro... Tight lines and much thanks, JB
  25. Thanks everyone for your responses and I apologize for not giving you more information to work with regarding my original question. I wish I had taken some pictures of the damaged carpet before it was replaced. The black, greasy, oily mess took me over 10 years to prefect , and 100 degree summer weather didn't help keep those scent products from getting thinned out ! We're all proud of our rigs and try to keep things in the best condition we can. After being told "Your boat is in really good shape and it's how old?" The next question is usually "What's that black, greasy mess on your carpet?" I have a 20ft boat and when fishing the rods are strapped down to either side of the deck. One side of the deck I have rods rigged with plastics the other side of the deck the rods are rigged with various hard baits. The mat I would like to use would be cut to a 1'X 2' rectangular piece of carpet and would be placed under the rods rigged with plastics so I don't think it will present a safety hazard even though I have stepped on a rod or two over the years. I agree with and have tried to use a towel as you've mentioned, but it had a tendency to be affected by the wind when under power and getting fouled in the hooks of rigged rods. That's why I thought a small piece carpet would be a little more substantial, plus I have some of it handy. As for where the boat is stored, it was my wife's idea to keep the boat in the garage..... Again thanks for your help and feedback on this, JB
