  1. YES! We have those beastly lookin dragonflies up here. I caught a bass and looked in his mouth and i see and wing so i grab the pliers and start pulling it out....and pulling it out. The thing was huge! I didn't know they could get that big. It was probably 4 or five inches from tip of the tail to tip of the head. I saw the same thing you did with the dragon flies. First thing I thought of was a senko like yourself. Except Wacky rig it instead of Texas weightless. See how that works.
  2. LOL! haha I thought you were serious for a second
  3. And the members are like waterboys and towel boys and grass. ;D
  4. Yea they can be a pain...Some people purposely fish for them in ponds I fish. Then I laugh when they get all angry trying to get the hook out. Don't complain after you purposely hook it.
  5. I wouldn't...why? Its probably illegal and not worth it. Plus thats a lot of stress for a fish especially a big one. You wouldn't want to do all that only to have the thing die.
  6. Look here first...http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1121527643 You'll find everything about plastics in there
  7. I agree that it seems kinda sketcy. Plus I would probably break it really quickly... ;D
  8. Yes...I have also heard that bass are fairly teritorial....(spelt that wrong :-/)
  9. Hey man good to hear that your hookin them suckers and keepin them hooked! Whatever gets you a fish. I like to do exactly what you did sometimes when i'm not getting bit. Downsize on over pressured fish. I don't know about your hole but I know all of mine are really pressured badly so a lot of times i'll downsize and land a couple fish at least!
  10. Reel down and use a whip set. Point your tip at the fish and whip it back over your head. Keep the rod down so the fish does not jump. Make sure you have sharp hooks and no slack in the line when setting a fish. I like my rod to be on the stiff side with a good amount of backbone when fishing worms.
  11. I just hope they bring it back! That was one of the better shows on that lineup.
  12. I agree totally. Humans have instincts. I'd imagine that fish do too. One of our instincts is survival. If someone grabbed you and started pulling you towards water would you fight back? I would! Now them pulling you doesn't really hurt but you still fight back. I think fish know enough to fight back when something is pulling on them.
  13. Live bait, if not...do what Russ said!
  14. OLN SUCKS!!!!! When I didn't get OLN there were fishing shows 24/7. Now when my dad got OLN because thats what the Rangers are on they take off the good fishing show and put on Cycling......what?!. TOC is the best channel. And you guessed it...I don't get that either.
  15. Pshhhhhh I knew that! lol I always laugh when people who don't fish come up to me at a pond and say what in here...Lagemouths? And then I say no, Spotted Bass. Then they walk away with a look like what the hell? lol its preety funny. Or another one of my favorites is when there are people who come up and ask...Hey, you actually catch fish in here?...Its like yea.....thats why i'm fishing here! lol.
  16. Ok, First WOW! THAT THING IS HUGE!!!! NICE CATCH!!!!! ahhhhhh...Now that i've got that out of my system i'd like to say that first everyone is entitled to thier own opinon. I too would have let that fish go. I'm broke i'm not gettin a replica or a mount! ;D so no sense in me keeping it. On a more serious note, i'm not gonna tell you that you should or shouldn't let a fish of that size go. Because honestly I think that doing what you do (eating a few 1 pounders) actually improves that fishery. It helps cut down on the whole overpopulation issue. You can sit here and say that a 7 pounder could be this, or grow to this weight forever. I'm not happy that the fish is dead, but what I am happy for is that you. Its good to see that you understand that you won't come across an 11 pounder on every trip and that a fish that size is keepable, but at the same time 6,7,8 lbers as un common as they are they are a lot more common than an 11lber. Its not like you keep everything you catch. The smaller fish (6,7, and 8s) that you let go can grow up and take the place of that 11 pounder. Is keeping a fish that big going to kill the fishery? no. Is putting it back going to help it? maybe, maybe not. I would have let it go because would feel guilty about killing it, and I would want to keep that fishes genes going. The biggest lake on Long Island is 249 acres. That a medium sized pond in some places. An 11 pounder being put back is gonna help a small pond a lot more than a big lake. Smaller bodies of water don't have these type of fish. On Long Island an 8 or 9 pounder is like catching a 13 or 14 pound bass in the south. He kept the fish...no sense in arguing about it now...its over with. It sucks for the fish. but instead of putting him down try to congratulate him. Preaching to him about catch and release is meaning less...he practices it. Just not as much as others. All that aside congratulations. I'm happy for you that you caught that bass. Its something that not everyone gets the chace to do in their life. WAY TO GO!
  17. doesn't bother me...you should see the topwater at the end of the day woooweee
  18. What it is in every place I fish. Air pockets. I call it swamp gas.
  19. In this heat I would consider 5-8 bass A LOT of fish. 30,40, and 50+ bass caught in a day is and absolutley monster day...even for you southern boys. Its even more monster if they are of any size. These numbers aren't coming in the summer heat...or at least heat as hot as this. I'd say if you catch 5 or 6 bass in the heat that your in right now you should be doing backflips. I know I would. The huge numbers are more common in the Spring and Fall when the bass are gorging out. Especially in the Fall because in the Fall you can get on huge schools of bass and catch them all day on a variety of lures, retrives etc. etc. Even in the Spring and Fall these numbers aren't common. You definetly don't suck. I belive there is a certain amount of luck envolved with these numbers also.
  20. yea it should work...I don't see why not
  21. ohhh. Then I guess that settle that...lucky
  22. you probably catch them every time out and don't realize it. They fool a lot of people. Next time you catch waht you think is a largie look and the hinge on the outside of its mouth. If it lines up with the back of its eye its a spot if it extends past the eye its a largie. Spots have smallmouth heads
  23. ahhh I don't know about you guys but all the places that I fish are being taken over by Spotted Bass. Every Bass I catch is Spotted. It drives me nuts. I mean Spots are great but I can't remember the last time I reeled a largie in. How about you guys...are they taking over your holes too?
