  1. I am taking advantage of some "off time," in our tournament schedule. I will be doing a-lot of work on my boat (indoors), carpet, buffing, waxing... the works. As far as fishing goes. I will be out every chance I get, whether it be a pond, or back-seating with a friend. I just can't stop. Luckily I live where we have cold, but not TOO cold whether. I'm sure if it were colder here, I'd hang em and devote the, "off season," to reading, learning, and modding gear.
  2. Welcome, glad to see people are still introducing themselves. It's great here, you will learn a lot.
  3. Glad I read this! I was considering buying some. Thanks for the heads up guys!!
  4. Pretty sweet light. I will def. look into it. Seems great for the night outing or having in the boat for those pre-light tournament situations! Great product post.
  5. Yes, I split the grip. As I stated before I only had the cell available when I snapped the pics. Sorry for the bad quality. I will post more pics when I get the digital back.
  6. My first attempt at this so go easy on me. Sorry about the horrible quality of the photo, it's my cell phone.
  7. Stay at it man, people say things all the time. I am all about, " show me, don't tell me." I hope blowing the steam off helps good luck in the Spring. If I could give you one piece of advice it would be to, fish what you are confident in and do not second guess yourself. It's an uphill battle and the only way to show em is to do it. Don't speak.... FISH.
  8. Check these tips and tactics out for jigging and swimming spoons. I found these to be helpful when I first started fishing seriously. Just more great info. http://www.bassresource.com/fish/bass-fishing-tips.html
  9. Welcome to the forum!
  10. Are there any how to articles on making mods to rods like this? I would love to get a hold of my rods and overhaul them like this.
  11. Thanks for all the input guys. I have been working with Dick's for over 1 year. I absolutely love the job, I just want to make sure I am doing the right things. These pointers are showing me a lot about things I already do and ways to improve them. So thanks. If you are ever in Dothan Alabama stop in and say hi!
  12. I work at a local Dick's Sporting Goods. I want to help my customers the best I can so I figured I get you guys to give me ideas as to what you look for in an associate. I try to greet everyone and do what I consider to be the essentials, but beyond that I don't want to force products on people and I certainly don't want to be the guy who always says, "well me and my buddies' use this and it works." So please give me some feedback. Summing up here is what I'm looking for. If you were to come in the Dick's I work at, what things would you look for to consider me an overall top rate associate?
  13. That's pretty awesome. Wack a snake, catch a bass. If you ask me the snake waited to be bait.... he came towards the boat.
  14. I am trying to figure out how to get out of work/school to take advantages of these cooler days... although we have been overcast for like 3 weeks straight with tons of rain. This let up has yielded cooler temps and bluebird skies. I must say it is lovely.
  15. If you guys want to see I will post, until then I will just describe it. One saturday morning I was respooling reels and I was taking a red eye shad off one of my setups. I was sitting on the floor and somehow when I cut the line on the redeye it went straight into my left pinky-finger. My immediate reflex, to jerk away, got my right pinky-finger stuck so, I was in a pickle. I had no way to do the hook tie technique since my hands were bound together. I called my mom into the kitchen where I had attempted to pour some medication onto the entrance points. She then poured the medicine which made it hurt even worse.... I fell to my knees and wound up getting the other trebles stuck in the rug in front of the kitchen sink :-X. After my mom had to pretty much fall out of the wheelchair she was in (due to ankle injury) she cut the lures free, then called my brother-in-law to drive me to the E.R. (Yeah he laughed the whole way). So once I get there I stuck my hands in through the little window and said.... " I need you to fix this." After the woman picked her jaw up off the floor I went back and had the hooks removed. I have plenty of pics... if you want to see I'll post later tonight. I just didn't want to post up a bunch of nasty pics.
  16. Yeah I have 2 cds of real men of genius I downloaded a while back. They are all so funny. I have seen people catching huge catfish at my pond on bread.... I only bass fish outta there, but the family literally balls up bread and they catch fish.
  17. I can hear the back up singer now........ "You're reeeeling it backwards!" Well I got bored.... Bud Light Presents: Real Men of Genius (Real men of Genius) Today we salute you. Mr. Upside Down Spinning Reel User (Mr.Upside Down Spinning Reel User ) Wearing a you might be a redneck shirt , you're living the real American dream Fishing that brand new $150 reel.... upside down. (You're reeling it backwards!) Sure there's an odd feeling and strange looks, but you remain strong in your ways. (CASTING IT OUT NOW!) Your keen instincts tells you to cast it out the right way, but then flip it over and reel it in backwards. (I gotta another fish now!) So crack open an ice cold Bud Light, Spin Doctor. 'Cause we all know, the the fishing gets tough, the tough flip their reels. (Mr. Upside Down Spinning Reel User!)
  18. My nephew's first day bass fishing. One I will never forget.
  19. I don't know if you guys are familiar with the bud-light, "real men of genius commercials," but I would love to hear, " today we salute you Mr. upside-down spinning reel guy."
  20. Luckily I have been fishing my whole life, but no one helped me ease into the bass world, that is until I joined this forum. I started out in the tips/tactics panel of the article section and learned every technique, lure, what reel to use, what rod to use, why to use it, when to use it. It is easy to get overwhelmed. I fish at the collegiate-level now and I am the Vice-President of our club (not to brag). I just want to offer you some encouragement. Your transformation into a better angler doesn't happen over night. It is an evolution over time, that is, you never stop learning and adapting. I would take one concept at a time, apply and use it on the water, don't be lazy. There is a plethora of information here and it would be easy to skim the top. I would take one concept per week, read articles pertaining to it, make print outs or notes, then the second half of the week I would go out and apply it at a pond/lake etc. I still do this to date and my studies have evolved from simple tackle set-ups to patterning fish for each season. Hang in there, its a great great sport and a consuming one at that. This site will help greatly! If you ever need anything just PM me. Sorry to be so wordy.... I just had to share with you.
  21. What rod (length and action)/reel (gear ratio) and line do you guys prefer for buzz baits? Thanks, Dave
  22. That was exactly my experience when I worked at Dick's. I was the freshwater fishing guy, we had a saltwater guy, and then we had a gun guy. If we all worked at the same time it was fine but they never scheduled more than two people to work the lodge at the same time and when they did it was usually only an overlap of about 2 hours between shifts. Same story here. I currently work at Dicks #337 in Dothan Alabama. Our selection is horrible, but we do have that .97 deal on the Grigsby series. We have 5 people staffed in the, Lodge department, of which one other guy knows saltwater fishing leaving me for freshwater.... the other four guys are hunters and probably don't know the difference between a buzz bait and a worm. I am not saying all Dick's are like this, but if I didn't know about fishing or the little I do know about hunting I'd be S.O.L. The training program is horrible the only fishing training available is all about selling Field and Stream Equipment, which is a Dick's brand they can sell cheaper. Lastly I love my job, and if you are ever in Dothan Alabama stop by and say hello.
  23. Thoughts and prayers go out to them.
