  1. Not even close, still burying the whole twist of the auger before it gets through the ice. Caught a nice largemouth the other day though, at least you can still see em.
  2. I like the photofinish stuff. Nice work. Making those fins with swiss strawI(raffia)?

The cowgirls have flashabou, about a whole packs worth. If they were buying the same thing under a different name at the craft store they could sell those things for $10 instead of $20.

Ebby get that stuff at your local craft store. Much more of the tinsel for far fewer pennies. I went just after christmas last year and stocked up on a lifetime supply of that stuff for less than a single pack that is packaged for fisherman.
  5. I have been using gel spun polyethylene (GSP) thread for most of my fly tying for bass. Including a bunch of flies with jig skirts on the front (albeit not so many strands). You can get it in a bunch of colors, and sizes. It cannot be cut unless it is under tension, and if you put a clear coat on a light wrap it pretty much disappears. You can use this stuff, with far fewer thread wraps/buildup if that is important to you. It also comes in multiple colors.
  6. Very cool stuff.
  7. Wish I had been by that trash can. Got a pack of gammy jig hooks the other day to tie some crawfish patterns on, first one I took out did not have a hook point, just a blunt end. Probably should have tossed the whole pack. I have matzuo cranks that catch fish. The hooks seem fine to me. Try a smaller pack, see if you like them before jumping for a value pack.

All the mom and pop hardware stores around me still have it. Even buying the little things at these places is a great way to support your local community.
  9. I typically don't like the thought of a fish swimming around with my hardware in it's mouth. Hope stainless hooks are not in the instructions. You would probably get to fish some awesome spots if you were charged with carrying his plans out though.

My local art store only has primary color finger paints, where are you getting yours? ;D
  11. D40x is 10.2 megapixel. You cannot go wrong with nikon. I think you will find the selection of lenses for the nikons to be much better. The only thing about the D40 is that it can not autofocus old lenses because it does not have an internal motor. It works perfectly with all the new d lenses though. This is basically only an issue if you had an older film nikon and a bunch of lenses and wanted to just buy a new body to use the old lenses on.
  12. Don't buy a wireless series motor guide it seems like a good idea but it is really annoying. I leave the control everywhere but in my boat and constantly have no trolling motor. Yeah it is my fault, but it wouldn't happen if it was not wireless. Also if you do get one that has the composite shaft it has a lifetime guarantee, I did not know this when I payed to get mine replaced. The threads stripped off at the motor and let water in. When I called to get it replaced motorguide told me they did not ship from the factory so I called a shop and got one ordered. Was not until I payed for it that I saw on basspro that the thing had a lifetime warranty. That said when I have the controls in the boat, the thing runs well.

I like em. But that feeling when looking at your baits is nothing new.
  14. I have a kid that is always in my boat that throws these things non-stop. It is weird because that bubbling sound is just the background noise on the boat now. If that stops it takes a few minutes to notice but then you have to turn around and see if he fell out of the boat or something cause something must be wrong if he isn't throwing the jitterbug. He catches some fish

That is a fantastic looking paint job Marty.
  16. Those look great.
  17. Just got one of these on ebay. From the pictures I thought it would look similar to a spook. Not so much, has a really interesting shape. The ice won't be gone for another three months so I was hoping to hear some experiences with these lures.
  18. Both great. I really like the perch though.

I like skitter props. Plus they are relatively cheap.
  20. Going to be in Mississippi for work in a couple weeks. Anyone know where one could rent a small boat or canoe on the reservoir? Any tips on fishing it this time of year? Thanks
  21. Check out the "favorite threads of all time" thread in the general forum. Some great crankbait stuff right at the top.
  22. That is awesome. He definitely is a credit to this community.
  23. I fished the DT 4 in a perch color this year, it was my most productive crank. The second was one I didn't expect. My girlfriend was going to be near a Dicks so i asked her to pick me up a rapala DT 4 in a "good color", she comes back with the purple over yellow bleeding hook sureset. Caught a bunch of smallies this year on that one too. If I had it as long as I had the perch one I think it would have been equally as productive. Leave it to the lady to bring back a purple bait
