are western fishermen the best of the best??
Dude, get your numbers straight, there are far more people living on the east coast than there are on the west coast. But to answer your question if you still wanna go with this off the wall theory of population- I would pick the ten most talented regardless of how many people live and fish in the county he/she is from.

are western fishermen the best of the best??
Absolutely not, people are individuals. When I made the US ski team and moved to Tahoe, everyone assumed I was a great skier just because I was from New England. N.E. conditions are much harder to ski so they naturally assume people from the east are better skiers. Like , we both made the U.S. team but he did it coming from the east so hes better. Not true., yes, I could handle ice better because we ski it daily where out west it's all powder but I had never jumped off a cliff before as many of my teammates were very proficient at because we don't have those back east. So, although your geographic allocation may have a definate affect on your style or manner of doing somthing, it will still be the most versatile , well rounded, tactitian that will prevail. IMO

Art Pasley-inducted to FISHING HALL OF FAME!
CHECK THIS OUT! When I joined this site, Glenn introduced me to the C.A.S.T. for kids Foundation. I did some research and came to the conclusion that I wanted to be a part of this. I sent an email to CAST and this guy "Art" from Texas replied with all I needed to know. We have worked together since that day with a large event planned here in Sept. The first in New England. Anyway, I got an email from his wife today tooting the horn for her very modest and humble hubby. She was letting his friends know that he had been inducted to the "FISHING HALL OF FAME!!" This is a copy of the letter he reieved and the bio that his wife and friend had submitted. I hope to finally meet Art in March when I visit Fork but if not, it will truly be an honor come Sept. to have him attend in our home state! Oops, sorry, letter from hall of fame is an adobe doc and I can't post it but here is his bio Arthur R. Pasley Biography Art Pasley has made numerous contributions to fresh water fishing, not only in Texas, but areas throughout the Eastern United States and Mexico. Beginning as a charter member of the East Texas Bassmaster fishing club, he was consistently one of the top point's leaders year after year, competing in four Texas B.A.S.S. Federation State Championship Tournaments, three B.A.S.S. Federation Central Division Tournaments, and the 1988 B.A.S.S. Federation National Championship Tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee. While finishing fourth on Lake of the Ozarks in 1988, Art's draw partner Joe Hendron, announced that Art was the finest worm fisherman to ever fish in Missouri. Art's fourth place finish earned him a place on the 1988 Central Division Team to compete in the B.A.S.S. Federation National Championship. In addition, Art competed in the Texas based Bass-N-Buddy Team Tournament Trail, finishing each season with an invitation to the year end Classic Championship Event, as well as winning the 1991 Texas B.A.S.S. State Federation Region 214-903 year end tournament, held on Lake Tawakoni. In 2002, at the invitation of the Texas Association of Bass Clubs, he traveled to China, Mexico competing in the first International Tournament between the United States and Mexico. Competing against the best of Mexico, Art won first place individual honors and first place in the team category with Alfonso Poncho Villareal, his draw partner from Monterey, Mexico. Art is possibly the first American angler to compete outside the borders of the United States and win against the best anglers the host country had to offer. Fishing is not Art's only strength. His leadership abilities were recognized as he established regional fishing events for disadvantaged children in North Texas. As the Region 214-903 Youth Director, he conducted the first Fishing for Youth Tournament inviting children from five youth homes in North Texas to participate. Supported by the members of the Texas B.A.S.S. Federation, with over 140 children per event, boaters from area clubs came together for a day of fun and fishing, sharing their skills with those less fortunate than others. At the request of the Texas Federation State President, he conducted the first B.A.S.S. Flip Pitch and Cast State Finals for the Texas Federation. He hosted the event with participants coming from every corner of Texas to experience the first time event. It continues to be one of the most prestigious youth programs in the country. When his term as Regional Youth Director concluded, Art was elected Associate Director for his region. His dedication to the anglers, conservation and youth programs were easily noticeable by the programs that soon developed under his leadership. No sooner had he been elected Associate Director, when the position of the 214-903 State Director became vacant and Art was elected as the new Texas B.A.S.S. State Federation Regional Director of North Texas. Membership began to grow at an unbelievable rate as a result of his countless hours visiting potential clubs throughout North Texas. His complete understanding of the need for youth and conservation leadership lead him to appoint several key individuals to continue building a strong foundation to support the youth programs and conservation efforts he had established. In addition to the Flip Pitch and Cast events, the Fishing for Youth Tournament and the newly formed Little Buddy Tournament, which provided neighborhood children a chance to fish with area Federation anglers, Art also introduced the Gift of Life Blood Drive, benefiting county hospitals throughout Texas. This very successful effort resulted in a proclamation from Texas Governor Ann Richards and City of Dallas Mayor Steve Bartlett. His awareness of the needs of our freshwater resources and involvement with Texas Parks & Wildlife officials lead to his involvement with Texas Black Bass Unlimited and the Conservation Fish Fest program. Conservation Fish Fest was the brainchild of his longtime friend, Leonard Ranne. By raising money through a series of fund raisers, Texas Parks & Wildlife could take advantage of the Wallop-Breaux three to one matching funds program, and build a state of the art freshwater fish hatchery, which is now located in Athens Texas. In 1993, Art was elected to the position of President of the Texas B.A.S.S. State Federation. During his 4 year term in office, he introduced the youth and conservation programs he had established regionally, to the State Board of Directors, and was able to include each program as a sanctioned Texas B.A.S.S. State Federation event. His tireless efforts set a standard for involvement of weekend anglers in Texas that had never been seen, which continues today. He created the Regional Tournament Trails to raise greatly needed funds for each region to support their youth and conservation programs. These tournaments attracted sponsorship from many new fishing industry leaders while strengthening the state and adding integrity to the program. At each of the four State Championship Tournaments during his term as State President, Art had special guests on hand to meet the anglers. With Ranger Boats founder Forrest Wood on hand for all four events, other guests included National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame member, Bobby Murray; National B.A.S.S. Federation Director, Don Corkran; and in 1997 at Art's invitation, Mr. Bass' himself, Ray Scott, attended the event to thank Art and the Texas Federation for it's efforts to bring the Texas B.A.S.S. Federation to the level it was then and still is today. This is the only B.A.S.S. State Federation Tournament Ray Scott has ever attended. No other fisherman in Texas had ever competed with as much passion as Art, and no other sportsman had ever been as passionate about giving back as he has done so many times, for so many people. He is a leader, a sportsman, a conservationist and an angler. He is proud of his belief in God and lives a very noticeable Christian life not only locally, but on a regional, state, national and international level as well. In July 2000, Art accepted the position of Southern Director for the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation, a non-profit organization providing a day of fun and fishing to disabled and disadvantaged children, in the Southern States. In 2004 he was assigned the entire Eastern United States from Nebraska, south to Texas and everything east to New York and Florida. The first year, Art had four events in states including Texas, Florida, Missouri and Oklahoma. Today his region conducts events in 16 states and Mexico, and continues to grow. Update that to 17 states! [move]WELL DONE ART!!![/move]

UPDATE- I got the packages today!! What a gorgeous rod and matched with the reel,..it's "reeel" purdy. Great looking set-up. My only dilemma is that the reel is right hand and I'm left. RW says God meant for me to fish right handed like "normal" people do. LOL,..far from normal man,..but I appreciate you giving me the benefit of the doubt! lol. In short, sweet set-up, great guy,..what comes around goes around. RW if EVER I can assist you with ANYTHING, please let me know. My tuna boat is for sale otherwise I would insist you get up here. If I can get you on my buds boat, would you make the trip? He is actually contemplating getting out of the business too but he's giving this season one more shot. He was my mate before he had his boat so it wouldn't be an issue if you are interested. Thanks again RW! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

how old are your hotspots?
I first camped on the land at our lake 27 yrs ago. There were 4 houses then,..close to 20 now but still nowhere near being "over developed" The only dilemma I have is that it is a "landowner access only" lake and people have been sneaking in. A few residents have had guests who have spread the word about how pristine this place is. A few yrs back, they lowered the water to repair the dam and many of the largest fish were caught and taken home. We used to see 6's and 7's with our 2 PB's at 8.8 and 9.2. We havn't caught anything over 5 in almost 4 yrs but the genetics are proving themslves. Each year, since the lowering of the water, the weights have been getting bigger. 2 yrs ago, tons of 3's with a 4 or 5 now and again, last year, we had lots of 4's with a 5 and a 6 here and there. Can't wait to see what she spits at us this year!

boat paint job?
This is the last jon I did. Lots of instruction in here. Feel free o PM me if you have questions. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1119359773/0 Sandblasing is a good idea but make sure you put it on saw horses .upside down, and blast the leftover sand out of all ther hiding spaces. The ribs etc, will hold lots of that sand.

Boats WITHOUT carpet
call it a jon boat and make it 1. scorching 2. deafening 3. hehehehehe wiiiipe out Even my salt boats (whaler and a steiger craft) have their negatives. Even with a grit mixed into the gelcoat, it still gets slippery. A salty boat gets much dirtier and has a much higher need for washing down the floors,....................know whast I mean?

Trailer Hitch Problem
never. sounds like an isolated ground loop. Do the lights blow out? If so, any pattern? (just directionals blow, just the directional that is being used, just brake bulb blows, etc?)

Should I stay or should I go?
R-TRAP- I'm looking at 38 degrees, 20mph N wind, blue skies. I also have a UPS truck with approximately 150 stops, 400 or so packages and a boss who wants more stock options so he's cut more resources than necessary. Do I go in to work? wanna trade decisions?

Again, sorry if I embarressed you with this post but if you read it, its a great testament to your efforts. There's alot to be said by alot of different people but the general consensus remains the same. Personally I think lots of people here are glad I gave them a place to say what they've been feeling since coming here. Same with Chris. Sorry, but someone needs to let you guys know how much you've made a difference to some of us. Widening our world to the one passion that drives us all from the heart. (Even if neither of you can post a friggin' pic now and again! LOL ) Many of us have become better anglers, better teachers and better listeners thanks to the many writings and acts you've both contributed. OK, mush, mush, blah, blah, oh how sweet, go ahead guys, lay it on,I don't care,...Pappa always taught me to thank those that deserve your gratitude and his opinion was always the only one that mattered to me Thanks to all who at least try to make a difference

I Just wanted to post a "thanks" to RW I pm'd him requesting feedback for a rod hunt I've been on. I solicited a last resort opinion before I went to the web to appease my monkey. I am looking to expand my versatility and need a rod that covers unfamiliar tactics so I really have no idea what I'm looking for. After some questions and explaining, RW told me to stop my hunt because he had a rod collecting dust that would be perfect! Well, those of you that know me, know I'm a bit of a showboat so I'm thinking,"wow, what a nice gesture but do I really want somthing someone else doesn't even use?" Then RW started describing what he had and my ears perked. RW is sending me,....no,...has ALREADY sent me, a Fenwick 7'9" Techna AV rod!! This is an im8, titanium guide, $250 rod!! Wait, it gets better! He also PM'd me back and told me he is sending me the reel too as he has no need for it. The rod was used for 1/2 an hour and landed 1 25lb striper but the fishing he does, really doesn't warrent this rod, so it sits. The terms of this transaction are as follows 1. Use it, learn it, If it's what you wanted, send me $100 2. If not, Give it back when we meet somewhere for an excursion. (Varner?) What A deal, and what a patron of the sport! So, after his generosity helping out in the ground pounding for SENKO77 and his family, his relentless, committed insight and dedication to BR and family, and this latest act of kindness, I say hats off and raise your mugs.... how many lakes
We fish 12 lakes/reservoirs for the "clear water challenge" (CWC) every year and then we have our main reservoir which is going private this year. Looks like Eric and I won't be competing in the CWC, we took 4th the first year, 1st last year and 3rd this year. Going to end on a good note for numerous reasons(other obligations would keep us from almost 1/2 the events this year) Other than that, we will still have access to our primary honey hole, even though it will be private, where I plan to really concentrate on learning this year. I've learned about lots of things I want to give real time to that competing didn't allow me to.

struck gold at city hall
avid- where it shows the barn, is where there is a well known "L" shaped rock pile which I am assuming is the old foundation of sorts. Been very productive through the years. Sneaky-We've snorkeled 2/3 of the 292 acres I'd say but the 25-35 acres where its 33 feet where the original pond was is too much to get down. Electronics show no structure down there and that is mission #1 of '06 , to drop somthing in that hole and mark it w/ my partners new handheld GPS. we are thinking pvc trees.
