  1. Hi JT. I'm a new guy that has been waiting to meet you. Read lots of your old posts and couldn't help but notice how much you are respected here. I hope to get you know you more this winter. I'm a rRhode Islander so I too am dealing with the ice. We did however find a cure. LAKE FORK IN MARCH,lol wanna come?
  2. ¡Alegre verle detrás compinche! ¿Usted consiguió mi mensaje personal?
  3. You guys make being a moderator too easy, I wonder if the mods on the other boards feel the same way.
  4. Upnorth-Not same manufacurer but same quality YKK zipper. My UPS vest zips into my North Face WindShell. Just needs to be the heavy gauge teeth and a close enough length.
  5. I don't know man, I skied for US Freestyle-moguls "A". Wouldn't wanna kill the poor guy,lol
  6. There's been lots of chatter lately about gore-tex rainsuits and other GT accessories. Now that the season is over for most, it's time to clean and store our garments for the winter. Back when I skied pro, the U.S. Ski Team was the guinea pig group for William Gore. We were told that we could wash the garment but not to dry. Well, I guess times have changed. This is a great care sheet. http://www.gore-tex.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ContentGView?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&productId=10003 When the stink got too bad this summer, I looked up this care sheet for GT and now it seems that they actually reccommend drying on low heat. They say it re-spreads the gore-tex molecules. However, they also tell you to re-treat the outer shell of the garment with a waterproofer. When the rain beads up and rolls right off, that's not gore-tex. GT is a very thin layer of material, like a plastic looking tissue paper. and it's found in-between your outer and inner layer. The "beading" action is the same old stuff on the outside of the garment (3m scotchgaurd, etc) but there are outer layer sprays and washes made specifically for garments with GT in them (as opposed to the 3m product). I ended up washing my bibs 3 times this year with an outer treatment after the last washing and now I'm good as new again! I hope this info helps someone to protect their investment. Great stuff and worth every penny but you gotta take care of it. catch 'em up!
  7. The log Fluke is talking about is the one that gave me the idea to tag hyperlinks for pics to the date . If I didn't have my own, I would have that one for sure.
  8. Ken- the berkley scale I had read tenths, not ounces. I just realized it this yr when I bought the new rapala one and gave my buddy the old one. We weighed the same fish one day to see if they were closely calibrated and that's when I realized for the last few yrs, I had been weighing in 10ths.
  9. The main thing I'm concentrating on for '06 is Lake Fork in March!! ;D May look into working on speed fishing.
  10. K-roc We use my digital camera for everything. Start off on video mode and give all the weather, date, etc everything over 3.5 gets a pic and a voice recording of all data. All other fish get tracked on a pad by your "partner". This started off because we are so competitive that we didnt trust each other, lol but now it has seemed to work because while the other guy is getting hook out, partner is writing and both are back to fishing at same time. This gives incentive to be catching more because it also gives opponent "down time"!
  11. Exactly, and even if there was a materials defect causing hull trauma, the boat still isn't going to snap in half. Unless.... It sinks, and lands on the middle of it's hull,...on a rock,....and an ocean liner directly above it also sinks simultaneously,.....landing on it and crushes it. Then yes, I suppose it is possible. And my Ex-Girlfriend will be calling me tomorrow to talk things over in a non-heated, mature fashion.,lol : :-? ;D
  12. I just can't wait till there's 10 years worth of data in there on the same lakes. THat's going to be very valuable on a personal level.
  13. First off, Wills point is not an option, it's a must. Heed that advice no matter what you buy. Most Gore-Tex bibs are unisulated. They are designed to be used in a layering system but not the one from back in the days of "A Christmas Story". High-tech, lightweight materials are now affordable as underlayers and your rainsuit is the final armor against the elements. One that thought, I will only buy the most "heavy duty" built gear I can find. If money isn't an option, North-face xps gore-tex mountain bibs with the expedition jacket are absolutely the best. I've used the bps 100mph, nice stuff but is stiff for a good year and doesnt come in a size small if thats an issue, frogg toggs, didn't care for, way too baggy and not a bib. I've also had the Cabela's guidewear which was functional too but i burned through those too. Nothing to date has touched the North Face gear I've been using. Just can't say enough good things about them . Lots of forethought as to fit, form, function, excessive wear areas, "bathroom ease", etc. These are the bibs: Good luck in your hunt!
  14. I recognize that I am not as adept at speed fishing as I'd like to be but I really don't have the need for it in my home lake. Would certainly round out my versatility however.
  15. I use an excel spreadsheet that my ex g/f made for me, it's awesome. This is only the second year of data but I track date time frame weather-sky,temp,water temp, wind, barometer Lure/bait color line size location and area of lake fish (#'d) fish weight Lunkers (3.5+) doubles and more each line has all these tags for each and every fish. there is also an area for comments on the day( stages of spawn, observations,...) and a hyperlink to "my pictures" that coincides with each outings pictures and videos by date so when you click on the date on the spreadsheet, the pics for that day come up. This is the one tool I will not share. If anything, I will find a way to market it, lol, it's that good. I can show graphs, pie charts, etc for anything I querry. For instance, "lunkers" broken down by bait (that wacky rigged senko pie slice is very large this year ) Another example, and somthing that really surprised us, was that when we querried "Lunkers" and "wind", it showed that 76% of my lunkers were caught on a north wind. I would have never guessed that. Just an example of what you can see when you lay everything out in front of you. The real chore is keeping it up to date and accurate. If you know how to play with excel and are looking to make a log, take your time and really load it. The more data you have, the greater the analysis.
  16. Those videos aren't out yet, they were kind of pumping them for the release. The guy started out filming for a soft plastics company, showing the baits underwater, they weren't expecting a 2lb smallie to grab it and they sure as heck weren't expecting a 6lb LM to grab the smallie!!
  17. Had to go back and check the excel spreadsheet but I had 21 fish over 4lbs on a wacky rigged senko for '05. That was 27% of all my lunkers (3.5lbs+)
  18. it's not gonna happen. A boat will delaminate before all the structual braces break. Even if torque was an issue, the topdeck would seperate from the hull before the hull would actually split in half. In other words, it can happen from top to bottom but not side to side without coming in contact with solid structure like coming down off a wave onto an unforseen rock but even in this situaion, the hull is much more likely to crush first. My .02
  19. ok folks, I've gotten quite a few pm's regarding Charlie MOore so I thought I would give an update. I was contacted 3 weeks after submitting written challenge by Charlies ppeps and they told me they liked the idea and forwarded it to ESPN. I replied and told them that I also had the video portion of the challenge ready and needed to know if tha gets sent to them or espn? 3 weeks later again and still no reply from either. :-/
  20. Fisher-what's an isotope? lol DaBluz- be careful, many lures and plastics require a slack line to achieve proper action (wacky rigged senko comes to mind)
  21. Hoopers turn- while tuna fishing, a friend of ours ,an Igfa line-class junkie, was on a mako on the fly. mate had stepped into a loop of line on the deck and the mako shot from the boat and cinched the line around his ankle. Cut a pure line down to the bone. He also uses a cane now.
  22. It seems in the north we winterize and in the south you just need to be winter savvy. Flechero-great post on "savvy"
  23. You're really not using the senko to it's full potential if it's not wacky rigged IMO.
  24. I don't think you'll get an actual number for an answer, too many other variables that colud also be part of the turn-off. If it's workin', keep chuckin' till it isn't would be my advice.
  25. I went with Chris' addage "if you can find 'em, you can catch 'em" I used same techniques as always, tried 6 or 7 new baits, but concentrated my efforts more on finding them. Learned a bunch with special thanks to Roadwarrior and Chris, our local "tactics and presentation" writers. Some great posts this year guys, well done to all and thanks to the many whose 2 cents enriched my season.
