  1. This Fish just came in this morning. Rumor is IGFA has recorded it at 406 officially. What was cool about this is it was caught on Wed or Thurs, and the word got out, and It was all over the local news. Anglers drove as far as LA just to see a peice of history. Here's the fish and angler..
  2. Species: Yellowfin Tuna Weight: 405.2# Boat: Vagabond Angler: Mike Livingston Reel: Penn 30W modified by Cal Sheets Leader: 100 pound Soft Steel Mainline: 100 pound Power Pro Spectra Hook: Owner Super Mutu 9/0 Fight Time: 2 Hours 40 Min Bait: Sardine That must really hurt the PP haters...
  3. Braid for every single rod i own. I will fish nothing but braid. only time i use mono and flouro is for my leaders. Braid makes a world of difference in my fishing. From Big 10+ ounce swimbaits to my dropshot rod. It all has braid! Braid is strong,Last forever, small diameter. Its AWESOME X 2 Except i leave enough room on top of the braid incase i want to put on a top shot of 15 to 20 yrds of mono... And all my leaders of flouro are 7ft or less.
  4. How far away is the water heater from the Washer? Sure it wasn't the water heater leaking the water and you thot it was the washer?
  5. I got mine in the mail today ( friend in Mesa Az. picked it up for me). First impression was badmouthing you guy's bragging about this reel. Looked like a matchbox car, paint job and the light weight reminded me of a toy. Took it all apart, cleaned it out,and spooled it up with 30lbs braid. Gotta say I'm pretty impressed so far with my few test casts in the yard...
  6. The Handle paddles are fine, and the reel free spools pretty good, but there is something a little rough on the retrieve. I have cleaned this reel flushed all bearings. My next guess is the worm gear is too tight.I'll leave the bearing in, and use it till next break down in 6 months or so.
  7. Great, Thanks for the quick reply, one more question, oil or grease the bushing?
  8. I opened up a reel over the weekend that had a brass bushing instead of a bearing under the main gear. Today I swapped the bushing/Bearing out of an older reel. Cleaned the bearing, oiled it, and found no difference in smoothness in ether reel after the swap. Why?
  9. And the Smooth Drag Carbontex gain drag when wore in..
  10. My brother in law still uses a regular albright and has caught tuna up to 45 lbs. Here's mine 24lbs using the Alberto. Granted I was using a 25yrd top shot of mono, but the knot was out there and had to come through the guides. Caught three on this set up.
  11. I use to use them all the time, cause where i used to fish there was alot of stickups to get hung on. I picked some up one day, then had to stop at another sporting goods store for line. Looked at spinner baits, and sure enough the Strike Kings were exactly the same ones, only cost more. So i figure they were made in the same factory in China?
  12. I wanna double check... I heard they are Graphite Frame. You sure they are aluminum? Cause it doesn't say that in my Flyer.
  13. It's true for bass fishing that a 75 yrd top shot of braid is plenty. But another advantage to all braid is weight. So i weighed one of my spools with all braid and it came out to 1.2 ounces, then the same one with 50% mono 50% Braid and it came out to 1.4 ounces. Is that enough of a weight to make a difference? Maybe it would on your dedicated light bait, baitcaster?
  14. After using Braid for a few years, i finally figured out a way I'm happy putting it on a reel properly, maybe it will help some people? My first time using braid with brand X was that brand x was digging in to itself, now i think it was more my fault then the braid..It is really important that you put braid on with as much tension as possible, i believe if the braid is on tight there is no way it can dig into itself.I could be wrong, but that's what i believe. My way of putting braid on a reel myself.. 1. I take the new braid and wind it in on a high capacity ocean reel, with a smooth drag (important). 2. I take the reel i'm putting the new braid on and put on a couple wraps of Teflon tape.(I like Teflon better than electrical because of weight).my opinion... or if your not worried about needing the line capacity, put on a couple wraps of mono.. 3. I tie the new braid end to the reel with knot of your choice..When i get done with the knot, i leave the tag end 4-6 inches long. The tag end will get caught underneeth the braid, which will prevent it from slipping on itself. 4. I button down the drag on the reel I'm feeding the line on.Then set the drag on the ocean reel with as much tension as i can get to feed the braid on the reel. From what i understand, braid is best put on reels with 3-4 pounds of resistance. after doing this to reels already spooled,it's amazing how much more line i could of put on. Some reels I have to have as much line as i can get. Ok, so i was bored on a rainy day, and I'm not that good at grammer, but i hope these four tips help someone out that wants to do it themselves..
