So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
I'm a big fan of early summer (May-early June). And for those wondering, the fruit jar went great! Bullet20 (Phil) made it and was a pleasure to meet and a dang good fisherman! We had 28 boats show up, paid $1400 for 1st place. I ended up in 2nd. Winners had 22lbs and I had 20lbs. There were a lot of 15-18lb bags brought in. Phil got a check too coming in 4th.

Dedicated Chatterbait Rod
I use a powell 723 "swimjig" rod. It's got a good tip on it with plenty of backbone.

There is plenty of hydrilla to pinch in housen, six mile, pirates, and most creeks on the south end. But don't sleep on the hay grass. With the water up, there are fish to be caught punching hay grass all over the lake.

The fish I've been on have been in 20-25ft. But there is a decent punch bite going on right now too

Reel Speed For Square Bills
If I'm throwing a squarebill it's because I'm looking for a reaction strike. I throw mine on a 7:1 gear ration tells and burn it through cover. The beating and banging and quick retrieve normally produces bites when other retrieves don't.

Fishing The Wind
Wind does a lot of good thing for fishing. First of all, it breaks up the waters surface so that fishing lines, boating shadows, ect are less visible to fish. Secondly, it creates a false current, aka wind current, which can stack fish in a certain area. Lastly, it blows bait into an area this bringing up bass. Wind is your friend!

Line To Use On A Big Crankbaits Rod
16lb sunline sniper floro. It has the same diameter of 12lb mono, a little less stretch, and will get your crankbait slightly deeper. It's also very abrasion resistant!

Alcohol And Boating
I've never even tasted alcohol, so I'd say no

That the island at the south point going into hurricane I think. It can be good around there at times. I went today for 5 hours and caught a little over 40. Mostly smaller fish with some 3lbers mixed in. Hooked one good fish over 6lbs but she came up and spit my crankbait. If you can find em right now you can catch a bunch, they as stacked up tight!

I agree with C-Rigger, I'd move, I've notice more times than not if there are big fish present, I will catch them first thing. If I've caught 10-20 small fish and need better size I'll move, but not far. Look for the next breakline. For example, last February I was fishing a tournament on Toledo. Pulled up to my first spot which was 15ft right next to a major creek channel and caught about 12 fish real quick. They were all good fish, 3-5lbs. I had 20lbs in the boat, but was having a hard time culling since they all looked the same. I ended up moving a little further off the ridge into 25ft and caught a 10.2 kicker. Weighed in 26.5lbs (my best individual tournament stringer to date) and won because of the move. The key is, don't move far, big fish are gonna be close by.

I don't think the shad spawn at those depths, but there are plenty of schools of shad out here. If you find good structure in 20-25 ft with bait present, there will be bass!

I haven't been on Rayburn lately, but the fish on Toledo are in that 20-25 ft range close to the creek channels. I wouldn't imagine Rayburn would be much different.

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
I fought the wind all day! Caught about 100 fish over e past two days. A lot of 3-4lb fish which would be awesome if I was fishing a regular tournament, but doesn't help much when looking for 1 big one. I dropped one over 7 at the boat yesterday and had one probably 9 or so come unhooked this morning. Weighed a 5.66 in the 12-1 hour and got 9th. It has been strange, couldn't get bit on a crankbait, but once I figured out what they wanted I was literally getting bit every other cast.
