  1. Let go of the aluminum t-top frame! Had some pretty nasty squalls hit us on the Gulf. On one particular trip we just made it out of the jetties (10 miles across the Laguna Madre) when it got pretty bad. I asked one of the guys "Ya ain't scared are ya?" He said, "I'm watching you and you don't seem to be worried yet." I thought to myself well it's a good thing I don't get a worried look when I crap my pants! After what seemed like an hour we hit sunny skies and smooth water. Steve
  2. I believe I'll go with the 55#. Thanks ya'll! Steve
  3. With all the talk about Samurai braid, I was planning to get a spool and try it. Is the 40# test a little light for frog fishing the slop or should I at least go with the 55#? I'm using Power Pro 65# now. Thanks. Steve
  4. Thanks ya'll! I'm glad my mother happened have her camera nearby to get a picture. I'm usually all by my lonesome. Thanks kms399, she's a pistol! Her idea of fishing is throwing stuff in the water and making all kinds of racket. ;D Steve
  5. I hauled this one out of a friend's pond. Don't have any idea what she weighed cause I didn't have a scale. Heck I didn't even get a measurement. I was fishing a Strike King white swim jig with a white paca craw trailer. She hit it on the initial fall. I wasn't too sure about my hook set, especially when I saw it was a pretty good fish so I was sweatin' it all the way to the bank. This ain't the biggest I've got out of this pond, but it's in the top three. Steve
  6. I agree, you shouldn't have to re-engineer the frog to keep it afloat. You shouldn't have to squeeze the water out either. I usually remember that right after I make that "perfect" cast. But we ain't got too many choices as far as frog fishing goes here. If you need a crankbait that will dive to 15+ feet they got them by the dozens, in every color. In case ya'll are wondering, the jingle bells I'm talking about are just that only in a small version. They're about 1/4 inch across. I don't know where you get them though. Mine came from a bracelet that belonged to my 4 year old daughter. I should be ashamed, I know. Steve
  7. Myself included, I see a lot of folks modifying their Spro frogs so they won't fill up with water. Most folks seem to like the silicone method. I've been using the method in this video from Basseast. In the video, he explains how he "drills the butt" (his words, not mine) of the frog with a small drill bit so the water can exit. The only drawbacks are any rattles or bells can get back there and plug the hole so the water can't drain. Also, drilling a hole in the center, one of the legs always seems to get crooked. I think this makes it harder to "walk". I went at it a little differently this time. Instead of "drilling" a hole, I used a lighter to heat a large sewing needle and burned two small holes at the rear of the frog right above the weight. The other mod is making a small cut, about 1/4", using a razor blade between the eyes to ensure the frog will compress when a strike occurs. This also makes it easier for me to install the little jingle bells. Last trip I gave it a try and it looks like it's gonna work. Legs stayed in place and I never had trouble with it sinking. Anyway, that's my frog mod mod. I hope this helps! Steve
  8. You're the helpful kind, aren't you? Yes, just not in as many words. :-?
  9. One of my favorite spots is gin clear. Hard to catch 'em if there ain't a ripple on the water. I've had some success using a 1/4 ounce swim jig in bluegill color. Good luck. Steve
  10. Have you checked their website? I'm pretty sure they have them listed. I was too busy drooling over the Cara t7. Steve
  11. Dingers, Wave Worms, more like them. Never fished the real deal Senko though. They're a tad bit pricey this ol' boy. From what I've read though I might be missing fish. I chunk a trick worm/trick worm magnum too. Dang ol' trick worms require a weight when I fish 'em. Or spinnin' tackle. Not a fan of sinkers and wacky wormin', weightless works best for me. Gave up spinnin' tackle a while back. Got wacky with super flukes a couple of times with a little success. Lot's of folks say they've done good with 'em. I guess when it comes down to it, you can get wacky with just about anything. Steve
  12. I was looking for the same thing a while back and someone suggested making your own by drilling a small hole in the rattle chamber(s) add a some super glue and there ya go. I've tried it with some of the Academy H20 baits. Works like a champ. Steve
  13. Most of the time it's about gettin' out with ol' maw nature and the peace and quiet. Yesterday was no exception for the first hour or so. The fish didn't cooperate much though, only one dink and he managed to run up in the cattails and break off. Then pop cruises up in the Gator with his entourage, two dogs and my 4 year old daughter. One lap around the pond with pop hollerin' at one mutt to get out of the water, echoed by my young'n I figured I might as well pack it in. I was determined though and my daughter and I hung around. And I'm sure glad I did. After a few minutes of trying to keep the little one still and quiet, I managed to hang another piglet about two feet from the bank. I knew the young'n would want in on the action and she got to reel up the last foot of the battle. When it was all said and done, we caught one more piglet and one that went about 2lbs. The best part of it all was listening to her tell my folks and her mother about the fish we caught. That's what it was about this time. Steve
  14. Download a coupon for free Terminator sunglasses when you spend $10 on spinnerbaits. Steve http://www.terminatorlures.com/
  15. Something like this? http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_100908_175003002_175000000_175003000_175-3-2
  16. All that for $150 ain't bad. Up in Big D, Jerry Jones gets $75-$200 just to park! Man what a deal! I'm sure location has much to do with it. Steve
  17. For shallow cranks and top water the H2O brand at Academy, if you've got one nearby. I've got 'em both and to me they're hard to beat less than $5. Steve
  18. Too cold to fish, huh? Steve
  19. I came across this website the other day. Thought ya'll might like it. http://www.crankbaitcentral.com/ Enjoy. Steve
  20. I've had good luck using them from shore. Zoom trick worms on spinning tackle with light line is killer for me. I've tried it on a casting rig too, but for me a spinning rod works way mo' betta'. I'd give it a shot when nothin' else gets their attention. Good luck. Steve
  21. I like 'em circle hooks with them 'ere weed gaurds on 'em cause they don't git hung up so much mmmmhmmmm. I like the way you talk. With some other weedless wacky hooks I was missing a lot of fish because the wire guard would hang up on the bait. So I stick with the Gammy's for now. Steve
  22. Sounds like he's rollin'. Wait, not enough "touchy feely lovey let's all hold hands and get our laser lures so we can rave and fish all at once" in there. Steve
  23. I've had success with their shallow cranks and "sammys". Yesterday I finally threw the bluegill swim bait and they were hammering it. Can't complain about the price either. Steve
  24. Yeah, it was a mistake. Instead of marking the Shimano Cruixis @ $39.99 they marked the TD Zillion at that price. When the manager figured out what happened, he was like "I don't understand?!" How could you get the two mixed up? That's when I told him if it was going to cause someone to lose their job, I didn't want the thing. He said nobody would get fired and he could sell one at that price. I didn't argue. The funny thing is, someone returned the reel after using it. Last night I started tearing it down to get all the grease out and noticed a couple of scuff marks and a dried layer of green slime on the frame. Not that I'm complaining at all because it's by far better than any of my other reels. I'm more than satisfied with the deal. Later on. Steve
  25. Thanks for the offer Steezy but I'm gonna keep 'er around. Now all I need is to find a rod. Steve
