  1. if you do that much fishing, do yourself a favor and get some nice equipment. reel = shimano symetre 2500 buy that for now and save up for a decent rod id spend at least 80 on the rod, st. croix or shimano. (both have excellent warranties) for the rod i recommend a 6' to 7' length, fast or extra fast tip, with a lure rating of 1/8-1/2oz or 3/16-5/8oz. these are the best specs for an all around spinning rod in my opinion EDIT: i recommended an extra fast taper but for an all around rod you would probably wouldnt want that if you plan on throwing crankbaits
  2. i have good luck river fishing with 1/4oz green craw bitsy bugs with 3" craw trailer
  3. why didnt you post this sooner? i dropped $250 on this last week.

it would prob work best when goosefishing "The goosefish often captures sea birds, as one of the vernacular names implies, cormorants, herring gulls, widgeons, scoters, loons, guillemots, and razor-billed auks are on its recorded dietary, while we have found grebes and other diving fowl, such as scaup ducks and mergansers, in goosefish in Pamlico Sound, N. C. It is questionable, however, whether even the largest of them would be able to master a live goose, as rumor has it, nor do the local fishermen believe it ever does so in Pamlico Sound, though the abundance of wild geese there in winter would afford it every opportunity" http://www.gma.org/fogm/Lophius_americanus.htm
  5. i agree with Bass-Brat. just dont cast it fast where youd make the tip bend alot.
  6. football - rocks (shape of head wont get hung up as much) swim jigs - anywhere (i fish them over grass usually with a baitfish colored grub, smoke, white etc.) finesse - when bite is slow, clear water or to get more numbers (a round head is a decent "all around" jighead. less skirt shows off more of the trailer) flipping - heavy cover (heavier hook) the finesse jig is the best confidence builder if youre new to jigs IMO
  7. i dont think it will work, but im curious to hear how it worked. a better double lure rig might be a dropshot/jig (shakey?)
  8. my favorite is the shimano stradic (probably because i havent tried the more expensive shimanos) i think symetre or sahara are the best bang for your buck. both are great reels for the money.
  9. i fish alot of strike king bitsy bugs for couple reasons. theyre small- so smallmouth love them. also i have caught large mouth from less than a lb up to 6.5lbs on these. theyre cheap-if im canoeing and there is alot of current on the river, i might not be able to go free a snag and $1.60 is not a big loss. for regular bass jigs i usually order from people who pour thier own. my next batch will prob come from G-MAN although it will be my first time buying his.
  10. fourbizz- i will be in norwood which is about 30 miles or so west of telluride thanks for the suggestions, everyone. ive read about some of the lakes in the area and they mention that the trout feed heavily on crayfish. have you heard of anyone using some kind of jig imitating a crayfish?
  11. i will be in southwest Colorado in the spring until late fall so im buying a couple ultralight spinning rods and taking a stab at some trout fishing. other than in-line spinners, what lures should i be using? thanks -z
  12. nope, just ordered it last night. i think the new sahara 1000 retails for 80 so you might be able to find it 10 or 20 bucks cheaper....
  13. well its official. i'll be living in a small town west of Telluride called Norwood. a friend of mine has a guest house in his backyard so ill be renting it and basically be jobless for 6 mos. (ive been working 84hr weeks for 2 yrs so i deserve a break.) this cabin will be a base camp while i explore the 4 corners area. for what ive read, there are a few reservoirs nearby that hold smallies and large mouth. mcphee, puett, totten. and then farther southeast there is the navajo reservoir. anyone familiar with these waters or have any suggestions of good places to fish for brown or green bass? ill be doing alot of camping so i dont mind driving into Utah, Arizona or New Mexico. looks like its trout country over there. im going to stick to spinning gear so i have alot of research to do to fish for these things. any advice of good bass spots in southwest CO is greatly appreciated. cheers -z
  14. the new line of shimano reels has the 1000 size which has the 750 body with a larger spool. i just ordered the symetre 1000. now i have to decide on a rod. im looking at the Rogue SP 602S. does anyone have any experience with the rogue ultralight rods? i havent fished ultralight since about 5 yrs ago before the shenandoah river swallowed my rig. its really fun to bring in a nice smallmouth on these rods.
  15. i usually fish lighter tackle so i'll go with spinning. 3/8oz and over i use a baitcaster.
  16. sahara 750fb and one of these rogues would be fun! http://www.roguerods.com/spinningrods.htm d**n you guys... now i might have to get one
  17. loomis (imx or glx) st croix (avid or higher) shimano curado 200e shimano stradic 2500 ive never tried a dobyns but im looking into the 704c
  18. every 4 mos or so. theres no bass out in the desert. when i do go home though, those sessions last 60 hrs straight (minus time sleeping)
  19. is the sensitivity on these two rods comparable? i want to try the ltbs68mxf for small jigs and plastics and loomis doesnt make a xf spinning rod with this lure wt range. thanks -z
  20. go 2 piece. im with Stasher1. id rather have symetre and avid than stradic and premier. if you can find last yrs model of either reel, im sure it will be a bargain. remember, for soft plastics, sensitivity is very important. -check out reeds sporting goods and hi's tackle box
  21. let the nitrogen cycle occur naturally. just run a filter with carbon until your water parameters are optimal. trying to speed up any process will eventually spell disaster. add fish one at a time. wild caught fish will bring parasites... the only chemicals you should be using are for removing chlorine during water changes. stay away from ph up and down type stuff LMB requires a huge tank just trying to help.... ive always liked clown loaches for the fresh water community tank for aggressive i like pacus, oscars, african cichlids
  22. I AM.... IN A WORLD...OF.....
  23. spring-jig summer-jig fall-jig i'll have to admit, however, 5lbs is big for me.
  24. you can also try a big black jig and trailer with rattles
  25. you mean 2 casting and 1 spinning? spinning rod will be used for finesse fishing? 6'6" or 7'" M or ML with XF tip (drop shot, shakey jig, split shot) for baitcasting i would get 7' H with F tip (heavy cover, heavier jigs, frogs etc) 6'6" MH with F tip (lighter jigs, t-rig, spinnerbait) although i like to use M to MH spinning gear for light jigs and plastics, if i only had 2 baitcasters and 1 spinning id get the above.
