what would you call this water clarity? PICS!!!
ive always thought of it as how far down you can see your lure. if i cant see my lure 6-8 inches under the water, id consider that muddy

crayfish imitations
1/4oz green craw bitsy bug with matching trailer. id use flourocarbon line because you said the water was clear. assuming youve never fished with a jig: slowly crawl/drag it by moving your rod tip a few inches at a time. give it little hops from time to time. shake it in place. pause it for several seconds. best way to practice this is to move it in shallow clear water where you can see what its doing. this is my favorite way to fish for smallmouth.

how do you all rig. . . . .
i like to use a 1/4oz arkie jighead with brush guard in shallow water

stupid fish finder question
ive always fished from canoes or rental jon boats without a fish finder and always targeted shallow visible structure/cover. i plan on buying a boat this year and want to fish deeper water. please bear with me for a dumb question. the fishfinder shoots down a cone to read depth and structure. the screen (on most units) is two dimensional. what exactly are you looking at on the screen? how can you tell if the brush pile is directly under your boat or to the left or right of you? i hope that makes sense. will the manual that comes with the unit explain this? i assume the left side of the screen is in front of you, the middle is below you and the right is behind you. im confused about the left to right view... thanks -z

How many different jig trailers do you guys use?
double tail grubs on skirted jig or double tail hula grubs or arkie jig head work pretty well for me.

Rods and Reels, Noob Style..
if you bought a fishing boat youre going to be in it for the long run. do yourself a favor and spend a little more on a combo or you will prob end up with a rod and reel you will never use in the near future. for spinning reels id get shimano, daiwa or pflueger there are tons of good rods out there. i agree with the two posts above on the specs. if you do some homework online you can usually find some good deals with free shipping.

Action: Fast vs. Extra Fast
i own a few xf rods but have not had a chance to use them yet. some people prefer them over fast for jigs and worms, shakey jigs and drop shot rigs. they are also supposed to be a little more sensitive than fast rods. they also tend to have a stiffer backbone than fast rods as they only bend at the upper part of the rod. the strange thing is that some say they have a softer tip than fast rods and others say its stiffer. if you can wait until august, ill get back to you on that

chronarch mg - lure weight question
im thinking about buying another one but havent had a chance to use mine yet. i understand this is not the best reel for heavier baits/line. what is the heaviest lure and largest diameter of line you would use with the chronarch mg? thanks -z

s Man vs wild
cancelled? i thought he quit. they are both great shows. of course some of the stuff bear does you wouldnt do unless there was no other choice. if you are watching the show not for entertainment but to learn in case you get stranded, i hope youre smart enough to know when jumping off a cliff into an unknown depth of water might not be a good idea.

Which spinning rod for senkos
X2 i havent used mine yet but it seems like a great rod for senkos, light jigs, light t-rigs, dropshot and shakey jig. maybe using the word finesse would have summed that up. do a search on here and on tackletour forums for that rod.

Strike King's Bitsy Flip Jig
out of all the jigs i use this one gets the most strikes. great confindence builder if you are new to jigs. i've caught bass from 4 inches long to 6.5 lbs on these jigs.

Casting Accuracy Spin VS Baitcst
id say the baitcaster is more accurate for long range casts because you can slightly over cast the lure and use your thumb to slow and stop the lure before it flys over the target.

jig/worm
jig can imitate crawfish and bait fish. depends on how you work it. not sure what a worm imitates. i think the bass just see it as easy prey. jig and worm works but id only use it when the jig/craw trailer bite stops. you can use any weight for the jig, as a matter of fact i recommend small bitsy bug jigs to get started. i prefer 1/4 oz with a tiny zoom chunk trailer or 3" craw trailer like the yum craw papi or netbait paca craw. i think a small jig with a small profile will catch more fish and help you build confidence using them.
