  1. bass season starts last wkend of june.... cant you say those jigs and spinnerbaits are for catfish? can you fish if you are releasing everything?
  2. wind does several potentially beneficial things for fishing. deflects some of the sunlight, helps hide the true "fake" look of your lure when seen from below, stirs up the bottom bringing out crayfish and making baitfish more active, lets you get closer to your target because the fish cant see above the water's surface as well.
  3. id save up another 20 bucks and get the sahara. maybe you can find one for 60 on ebay....
  4. im not sure what the preferred method is, but when im pitching i like the tension loose and the brakes tight. flipping shouldnt matter as youre not opening the reel. i believe slow rolling a spinner bait is reeling it slow so it bumps or drags on the bottom. i think of slow rolling as when im fishing a heavy spinnerbait down a ledge and making frequent contact with the bottom. i might be wrong if this is called slow rolling or not...
  5. i leave the ipod at home when im fishing.
  6. i believe yum bought the mold from someone thinking it was the only mold that existed. then it turned out that several were made and sold. i dont know why this would affect the price however.... this is something i read, dunno how true it is.
  7. plastics/jigs? sure. more sensitive rod and lifetime warranty. gogogo!!! avid is nice too but it looks like youre looking for that split grip.
  8. So I just don't drop it off the side of the boat I can cast it to cover more area? How bout finess worms do they work or even a fluke? yeah, finesse worms are the way to go. never tried a fluke before. i never drop it straight down but then again i never fish deep water.
  9. those jig heads are great. if you cant afford the stradic get a daiwa tierra or shimano symetre.
  10. the drop shot is actually very versatile. you can fish it in any depth. you can put the bait as far up as you like. i usually keep it between 12-18 inches up. it takes very little movement for the bait to move. even slight current will give it action. i start slow, dragging slowly every 10 secs or so. if i don't get anything after a while i give it subtle movements by gently moving the rod tip. try different things and see what works for you. as far as the bait, any plastic will work. most people use 3-5 inch "drop shot" worms
  11. dave, find the model number and call 1-800-826-7042 and ask how much it would cost you to trade it in for a new rod (make sure you add shipping costs). have the model number for the rod youd like to trade it for handy. if the rod was not made before 2001 you might get a great deal on brand new legend elite or tournament. if you end up doing this, ask the store for a rod tube to mail it in when you purchase it. -z
  12. i lost two avids and a fenwick hmg with symetre reels in about 3 secs when my canoe flipped on some rapids. and my stash got wet!
  13. not sure what will work now but in the warmer months i use bitsy bug jigs for the larger ones and small cranks for smaller ones. rebel wee craw produces well for me. try a 3 or 4 inch senko
  14. i have the SJ 602S and i just bought the SP 602S. you will not be disappointed with the spin jig blank.
  15. if you are interested in a loomis IMX for around $190 shipped: www.ohya.com register with them log in with the following username:customer password:preferred if you can save up a little more they have glx for about $260...

  20. id get him a spinning reel. he'll learn in no time
  21. im sorry. i meant late may and not march. do you think the river will be slower by then or is the susquehanna not really a good river to canoe?
  22. im not sure where to start, im looking for a good stretch of about maybe 30 miles that doesnt have many rapids. ive heard the harrisburg area is a good place to start.
  23. yes they are different depending on brand. many people only buy one brand of rods. a mh loomis and mh st croix are very different
