what action and power?
i use Medium and ML, 6'6"-7', fast and extra-fast. all spinning set ups. i fish shallow with smaller baits so the heaviest lures i use are 5/16oz jigs and an occasional 3/8oz spinnerbait. i think the lighter gear makes smallmouth fishing more fun. if i used 3/8oz or heavier lures id prob bring a M or MH baitcaster. F for spinnerbaits, XF for jig/worm.

now that you mentioned avid, id get that. very good value and great warranty. from what ive read, g-loomis shines when you buy IMX or GLX. i have not tried the mossyback's personally however.- Need assistance with spinning reel selection...
you can prob find a shimano symetre for that price. i highly recommend those reels, although i have never used the president xt... i do have a pfueger supreme and id rather use a symetre. if you want to spend a little more, id look into a daiwa tierra. you can prob find them for close to $100 online.- Shimano vs Quantum
get the curado- GYCB twin tail grub
the twin tail hula grub is one of my favorite baits. i fish it on a 1/4 oz arkie jighead.- looking for good smallmouth rod
if youre thinking about spending $210 for a rod, id get the st croix avid in M or ML. i had a bronze back (non glx) for some time that i bought from a friend and i prefer my avids. if you end up getting a loomis i'd get IMX or GLX- Radio while fishing?
i voted never. and i hate hearing other peoples music while on the water. kind of spoils the whole mood for me.- Things that make you feel stupid
id did that once with my friend watching. i remember talking about how delicious it looked and how i was going to catch a big one. then i dropped it in the water and stared at it while it sank to the depths. we prob laughed for a couple minutes after that.- Spinnerbait Rod
avid, great rod, great warranty- Top 3 Favorite All Time Movies
this is too hard for me so im going to bend the rules cohen brothers tarantino pt anderson- basic questions
bearings, brakes, anti-reverse, weight... stick with shimano, daiwa, pflueger and abu garcia and get what you can afford. 2500 size is good for spinning reels IMO. there are plenty of good rods out there. post your budget i am sure you will get plenty of suggestions to look into. 6'-7' graphite rods with fast tips are the best all-around rods IMO. good for all applications. moderate or moderate fast tips are good for treble hook lures. extrafast tips are good for bottom baits. the action of the rod depends on the weight of the baits you want to throw and the type of cover youre fishing. (for heavier cover you want a heavier action rod...)- $150 for 2 setups
$150 for two complete setups or just the rods? $75 for a complete setup is not very much at all... id spend the $150 on a decent set up and save up for another... with $150 id get a shimano sahara 2500 and decent rod. maybe shimano, fenwick, st croix or falcon. ive never used powell rods but i heard theyre pretty good.- Finesse Spinning Setup?
i used to have a HMG and i thought it was great. keep in mind that they dont have an xf action if thats what youre looking for- Bass & Aquariums
if you end up not getting bass there are plenty of other cool predator fish you can take a look at oscars african cichlids red bellied pirahna (very timid/shy fish) redtail catfish freshwater puffers plenty of other types of non-common fish pacu arowana needle nose gar the nicest types of freshwater tanks IMO are planted community tanks. gotta have clown loaches for those- Finesse Spinning Setup?
id get a shimano sahara 2500. for the rod id look into a shimano, fenwick, falcon or st croix.- THE ANGUISH, HORROR AND PAIN.....
which glx did you get?- New Jigs
i trim the weed guard some if its too long. a few millimeters above the hook parallel to the hook shank. if im fishing very sparse cover, ill remove some of the weedguard buy cutting some of it off near the jighead. 80% of the time i fish them straight out of the box. i cant recommend bitsy bug jigs enough. i like the 1/4oz green craw bitsy bug with a 3" craw trailer like yum's papi (2.75") or netbait's tiny paca craw. if i want a smaller profile i will trim the skirt down a little which will also expose more of the trailer. bitsy bugs produce numbers for me and although they dont have the best hooks, i have a high hook up ratio. they are also dirt cheap so you can afford to lose some. ive also heard good things about GMan's jigs although i have not tried them.- beer of choice??
if im going to have more than a few - heineken, becks, st pauli just a few - sam adams, sierra nevada, blue moon, pete's wicked- Went to the ER last night
