lake accotink?
2 yrs ago i used to mtn bike around there on wkdays all the time and saw no one on the water. i guess the wkend warriors come out in full force. Andrew- im working in Dubai, UAE and cant come back to the states until next spring (tax reasons) so i wont be able to give you a review for a long time. i actually just returned to the desert from the US, did a 5 day canoe/camping trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in MN with the girlfriend. Beautiful place.

lake accotink?
what i meant is that you cannot drive your boat and trailer down to the water. i know they have rentals and that you can carry a canoe and kayak down to the water. nice fish you got there. thanks for the info, i'll try it out next time im in town. cheers -z

lake accotink?
the backyard of the house i grew up in led into the accotink park woods. i used to go fishing there as a kid (worms) and caught many catfish and sunfish from the shore. the first time my dad let me go by myself i was standing behind my friend when he casted and the hook went deep into my cheek. i still remember the worm hanging off the eye end of the hook. anyways, i know that there is no public boat launch there so fishing pressure must be very low. i was thinking of putting my canoe in there and taking a shot at some bass. has anyone ever had any luck there with bass? thanks -z

PB Catfish!
a friend of mine caught a 10 lb catfish on a buzzbait earlier this summer. not sure if it was a channel or not... i caught a small one on a crankbait a few yrs ago. i guess they get hungry enough to chase down bait fish every once and a while.

Do like the fire tiger color?
ive had luck with small firetiger crankbaits in clear water as well as muddy. i think its a good baby bluegill imitation.

Stay away from Yo-zuri US
i used yo-zuri ultra soft for the first time last week and thought it was great. i did use kvd line conditioner so i cant give an opinion on the line without it.

advice on upgrading spin rod
id get a shimano compre or st. croix premier. falcons are nice too. after that, id save up for a >$60 shimano reel.

Is this a good jig setup?
not a bad beginner set up if: you use light jigs (finesse) fish structure and not heavy cover loosen up the drag use it for a while with lighter jigs and when you build up confidence with the jig, buy yourself a nice 6'6"-7' med-heavy worm/jig rod and reel. post your budget and im sure you will get plenty of suggestions as to what gear would be the best value.

First impressions of my new GLX
i prefer my glx over my avid. is it worth the extra money? that depends on who you ask. for me, sure. just skip a couple happy hrs and use the money saved to cover the difference. i cant skip those though. i just took it as a loss

my new favorite lure
im not sure if these are new or not, but they are new to me. i went to basspro shops the day before i went smallmouth fishing and i couldnt find the zoom tiny chunk trailers that i usually use with bitsy bug and finesse 1/4 oz. jigs. the salesman recommended these: http://www.buygreatlures.com/site/1540435/page/667478 i mostly used natural color with a pumpkin bitsy bug jig and caught about 20 smallmouth on a river float where i consider 10 to be a great day. i dont know if it was the change of jig trailer or not but its my new go to bait. cant wait to try it on the largemouths.

Attn: Lite Tackle Guys
nothing like catching a big bass on light tackle. some people like heavy rods with heavy test braid with the drag set to the max. i like when the fish takes line. the fun part for me is fighting the fish, not yanking it onto the boat as fast as possible. favorite set up: smallmouth : 6'3", 1/16oz-3/8oz lure weight, shimano 2500, 6lb line largemouth: 6'6", 1/8oz-1/2oz lure wieght, shimano 2500, 6lb-8lb line my favorite lures are small jigs and soft plastics

Starting Out Bass Fishing
i would get a 6'6" spinning rod with a lure weight rating of 1/8oz - 1/2oz. i would get a shimano 2500 spinning reel, model would depend on budget. some may disagree but i think jigs are the easiest lures to master and they produce small and large bass. let it sink to the bottom, reel up slack and by slowly moving your rod tip, crawl the jig along the bottom. give it little hops from time to time. practice in shallow water where you can see what the jig is doing. 1/4oz bitsy bug jig (green pumpkin or brown) with a zoom tiny chunk trailer of same color is my recommendation. (ive caught everything from a 4 inch bass to a 5.5 lb'er on this setup) other baits to have are small crankbaits (minnow and firetiger colors), white spinnerbait, green pumpkin and watermelon colored soft plastics (senkos, worms, grubs). if you have smallmouth in your waters, try some tube baits. as far as the boat, i love my canoe and i will be purchasing a SOT (sit on top) kayak soon. good luck.

Rockfish on the Potomac
ive caught some nice ones under the bridge up river from georgetown. i think its the 123 bridge? you make a left after the bridge and the parking is right there on your left and you have to hike a little ways down the canal path and then left towards the river. ive been there about 4 times and only caught stripers the first time. huge catfish though. strong current. EDIT: chain bridge. thats where it is.

Best rod for the money?
id go for a st. croix avid. great rod with great warranty.

First time Senko user
grab the senko right above where the hook goes in and stretch it towards the eye of the hook. bury the point of the hook inside the senko and let go. the point of the hook should be buried inside the senko and the senko should hang straight.
