  1. try banging them against underwater branches and cover. if swimming them in a straight line is not working, try bringing them up high and letting them flutter down a few feet and repeating. ive also had luck swimming them just under the surface where the vibrations from the blades are making small waves. sometimes they just dont want a spinnerbait.
  2. i caught my PB on a 5" double tail yamamoto hula grub on a 1/4oz black arkie style jighead with weedguard. it was also the first day i had ever used a jig. talk about a confidence builder.
  3. like Catt mentioned, concentrate on what your lure feels like when a fish is not on it. if you notice any change in this feeling, set the hook.
  4. that was hilarious. thanks Avalonjohn44 it is pretty sickening what we are doing to this earth if you think about it though. i hope my kids and grandkids will have the same opportunities to fish as i do.
  5. green pumpkin and watermelon 95% of the time maybe black in murky water if im smallie fishing sometimes i get crazy and use chartruese grubs i usually use smoke, clear or white colors to imitate baitfish
  6. depending on lake or river im fishing but this is the usual: 5/16oz skirted jig with small craw trailer small shallow crankbait (usually firetiger) 1/2oz spinner (white) 5 or 6 inch senko (watermelon or pumpkin) / fat ika (same colors) shaky head with 4-6 inch worm other rod usually has grub or tube id love to have a swimbait rod but i think it may be a waste of time in northern VA. please tell me if im wrong
  7. we've been slapping butts when we get big fish for a long time. they do it in football so its manly right? nothing more motivating than getting a "good game" from your fishing partner
  8. perfecto. es lo que buscaba. gracias, Raul.
  9. what did you guys do that made you go over? like i mentioned earlier, out of over 200 trips ive flipped twice and that was because i was doing something i shouldnt be doing. ive stood on my canoe to fish many times (not recommended). with flat hull canoe that is at least 15' long you dont just tip for no reason. if they were so unstable, i dont think people would be using them in the winter, several days away from civilization, in Minnesota's boundary waters canoe area.
  10. dude, you werent supposed to tell everybody. just your friends who already know youre shady.
  11. im overseas so i gotta order online. does the monkey have credit card number i can use? i know the mexican monkey has alot of them.
  12. if you get a canoe, i strongly advise against a 12 footer. go 16 or 17. it really depends where you fish as to what you should choose. if you fish shallow rivers or back waters a canoe is better. if you cover alot of open water where it can be very windy, go for the jon boat. i got my canoe used for 300 bucks and ive had it for over 5 yrs. you can also buy a used jon boat for very cheap. my suggestion, get both! dont let the fear of tipping stop you from buying a canoe. get one with a flat bottom. the only time i flipped mine out of countless trips was on class II rapids (waves come over the edge and flood the canoe) and when i stood up to take a leak (about 8 beers into the float) to make your decision harder, look up native watercraft's ultimate 16 ft "hybrid" kayak/canoe. 2 person or 1 person (removeable seats), super stable. you can stand and fish on it.
  13. thanks guys, im going to get the curado 200e7 (7:1) as soon as i get my new check card (someone in mexico decided to charge $1200 dollars on it so i had to cancel). ive had nothing but good experiences with shimano, both fishing reels and mtn bike parts. all shimano xt and xtr on my mtn bike drivetrain.
  14. though i fish them very similarly, i believe they are very different baits. like big-o said, start with 1/4oz in shallow water. ive caught bass smaller than my hand all the way up to a 6.5 lber on finesse jigs in shallow water. by far my favorite bait. might not be as productive as a senko (in certain conditions ofcourse), but very fun to use.
  15. hello. im currently working overseas and will probably be returning to the states in the spring. im a little tired of the Washington DC area and the real estate prices are too high. how is the bass fishing in colorado? are bass over 5 lbs common? are there any smallmouth waters? any info youd like to give will be greatly appreciated. from what people have been telling me, CO seems like the place im supposed to be. if the fishing is good, im sold. thanks -z
  16. hello. i visit madrid several times a year and i bought a rod and reel and some lures last time i was there. unfortunatley, due to an eye injury, i was unable to go fishing. could you recommend some lakes or rivers near madrid (i dont mind driving an hour or two) that would be good to try? muchas gracias -zigor
  17. hello. im working in Dubai UAE. i doubt theres any freshwater fishing here but i thought id ask. thanks -z
  18. 1/4oz pumpkin bitsybug jig with small craw trailer on spinning gear.
  19. 6.5 lb LMB on yamamoto hula grub on 1/4 oz jig 6.5 lb LMB on 1/4oz bitsy bug jig with zoom tiny chunk trailer
  20. id fish rocky bottom with small jigs, tubes, small crankbaits and 3.5 or 4 inch grubs. small spinnerbaits might be a good idea as well. if they are very aggresive or youre catching too many small ones, use larger baits. good luck. -z
  21. im in the minority who prefers the spinning rod over the baitcaster. i actually only own two (one is reeless) and have 5 spinning rods. i only use the baitcaster for heavier stuff, 3/8 oz and heavier. what i like about the baitcaster is that you can use your thumb as a brake to drop the bait before it hits the branches thus making it very accurate. this also creates less of a splash by slowing down the flying bait.
  22. i need a baitcasting reel for my loomis mbr 783C. this is a 6'6" rod rated for 1/4 - 3/4 oz baits. i will mainly be using 3/8 oz jigs and 1/2 oz spinnerbaits with this rod. if possible, please post why you recommend the reel you suggest. thanks in advance -z
  23. i like the green color because it goes really well with my khaki pants. it also matches my green canoe. i would never use it on an aluminum jon boat. that would look sooooo dreadful.
  24. i suggest you make the title to this post more specific. you'll prob get more replies that way.
