  1. Anyone been out lately???
  2. Guys, I'm planning a trip with some friends to Cayuga Lake in two weeks. We're staying in the State Park on the Northeastern end. I've never been up there before. I want to chase some bass. Is anyone familiar? Itll be the first week of October. Where should I fish, lures to throw... anything would be great. Thanks!!!!!
  3. For what it's worth, the 714 is my dedicated frog rod. i put my frogs in some nasty stuff, and it does a DYNAMITE job!
  4. I'm borderline defended that you didn't ask me first!!!
  5. It's a great flipping rod. Maybe small swim baits. It's a little underpowered for A-Rigs, but that could just be me.
  6. I got ONE bite on it. Caught the fish. 13". I like it.
  7. I'm looking for some fat bodied balsa square bills and some flat sided baits for pressured/cold water to buy. If you have a "catalogue", I'd like to see it. Do you sell? Pricing?
  8. Smallies! I throw spinnerbaits and small Plastics on jig heads. Tubes/grubs. Have fun!
  9. Thanks Bobby. Have you learned how to fish Candlewood yet? Or do you need me to show you... again??? ;-) They all LOOK good, and I know Megastrike doesn't make anything that doesn't work. I just want some reviews. I'll probably wind up buying some anyway...
  10. I know they're a sponsor of this site, and I love this site and therefore am grateful. I have used their scent for years and years and love it. But I want to hear stories about your good experiences and maybe bad experiences with Megastrike plastics. I ask because I'm considering buying them, and I just want to hear some honest first-hand experience. In particular, about the Megashad and Megastick, but dont leave any other plastic out. Action? Durability? Success stories? Disappointment stories? Let me know!
  11. I've done that before. It works really well. I'm not sure how it will react to elaztech plastic, like the strike king 3x line... Seems like you can't mix those baits with anything!
  12. When I found out they were discontinued, I went on a tear. I bought at least two dozen of them. Maybe 30. I didn't count. They are awesome baits!
  13. I want to know what you all turn to for wooden crankbaits, be them balsa, cedar, what have you. Trying to discover some new brands. It can be a major brand or home made garage-style. Let us know!!!
  14. I saw the Garmin Echo 550 for a great price at my local Cabelas. I was wondering if any of you had some reviews on them? They boast about the ease of use. Does that mean no manual adjustments? The screen picture on the demo seems very clear. But that's the demo. How is it really? Is it an accurate unit?
  15. Do you ever think that Rapala will ever bring the Shift Rods and Reels to the US Market?
  16. That's a great problem to have...
  17. I just picked this exact battery up at my local cabelas for $16! It's awesome. Buy it!
  18. Zoom Ultravibe Speeg Craw or a Keitach-like swim bait.
  19. I think it depends on the fishery. If you're fishing places like Candlewood in CT, Champlain in NY/VT or Erie, you can definitely find schools of very large smallies. But if you fish round some of my home water in Pa, probably not. Not every lake has giant smallmouth in it. If you fish a lake enough, you'll learn what it's capable of.
  20. I don't fish there, but I do fish below the dam about halfway to the bay. I DO fish the Flats a lot. I launch out of Anchor Marine in northeast, MD. You might want to consider heading out on the bay; that's where the real good fish live!
  21. I one time owned a Mitchell avocet gold 200. I bought the night before my first salmon trip to Pulask/Oswegoi, NY. I spooled it with about 90 yards of 12lb mono and went fishing. We were chasing salmon on the 10-30lb range. I landed about a dozen of them. My 6'6" lightning rod, Mitchell reel and cheap mono got it done! It was a struggle with some of those fish, but I landed many. That weekend, I never once had a drag, gear or any other failure from that reel. I think I paid $30 for it, MAYBE... I'm excited for Mitchell's new reels coming out! I might buy one or two!
  22. I tell ya, if you're gonna get a small boat, you should consider towing it to Northern Chesapeake bay and fishing the Anchor Marine area. You don't need to run, and it's full of bass! I mean big ones!
  23. I would have said either a mature fathead minnow or a creek chub.
  24. I can't afford a car payment. The minivan was free and is paid for. Looking to upgrade what I think is a capable vehicle. A tracker pt 175 is under 1,700lbs loaded. That half what my van is rated for, and that's my little rule of thumb. Just wondering what everyone's experiences were.
