  1. I rely on three mainly. White, black, and, well, FROG. I also like a brown and purple combo, because i throw frogs around areas where bluegills prevail as the main forage. And IMO, the is NO SUCH THING as a lake that ISNT good for frogs.
  2. CONGRADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats great to hear! Im glad you took all of our advice and went for braid and Spro Frogs. It is my personal favorite! Again, congrads, and feel free to keep posting your bass you catch! I wanna see your first 5#er on your new frog set-up!
  3. ILL TAKE THEM OFF YOUR HANDS FOR YOU....... : ;D : ;D :
  4. B & L Fattie Tubes. http://www.reeltimedesigns.com/BLBaitsSoftMisc.html This is a small company out of New Jersey. They have been around forever, and have some great deals.
  5. Bassin if you are more interested ion free fishing. Bassmaster if you want to learn how to fish with a competitive edge.
  6. Abu Garcia Reel Oil... Cant beat it with a stick if you wanted to...
  7. Ummmm... Super Glue?
  8. On second thought , i completely agree with RW. A new reel should act just that, NEW. I have had several problems with Quantum products, reels especially. SEND IT BACK!
  9. Its not a huge deal. It needs OIL! Go to Quantum's Website, or call them, and search for a lubrication chart. If you cant find one, call them and send it in for a lube job. Dont worry, its not the end of the world... but it is strange to happen on such a new reel...
  10. WELCOME TO THE SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly, i would say to just pay attention to the line. What happens when you gullet hook a bass is that the fish takes your lure, ahs you dont feel the strike, be it from slack in your line or whatever. The fish has the time to swallow the worm, and by the time you realize that you have a fish, its too late. i would just pay attention closer. This is not an insult to demining to you. No hook can help that 9IN MY OPINION) Welcome again! and tight lines!
  11. I fish them in the "falling" technique: let them sink to the bottom, give them three solid pops, let it sink again.....i dont pause for that long, just until they hit the bottom.
  12. Its not the hook, its the angler (no offense). You have to pay attention to your line/lure when its in the water. Set the hook immediately on a strike. They are swallowing it because they have too much time between them inhaling it and you setting the hook. Ive been down this road before. You have to keep a little tention on the line and try your absolute hardest to set the hook quickly! -TIGHT LINES!
  13. That is a tough question to answer. A goof Frog rod IS NOT a good crankbait rod. You require different specifications for every technique. But, ill throw one at you: Shimano Citica and a Berkley Lightning Rod (7', Medium Heavy). It will handle jigs, worms, frogs, senkos, spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits. Also, i hate to say it, but for an angler on a budget (like ME!!!!!!!!) Gander Mountain Rods are great. They have a rod for every technique, and are backed with a solid lifetime warrentee. Id stick with a Citica for now. Its a good reel.
  14. IGNORE THAT BUTTON> In my opinion, its usless. So long as you have a pulse and can pay attention to what you are doing, you dont need it.
  15. This is very true. I fish on a budget, and have 3 REVO S's myself. They are GREAT! EBAY has them for various prices NEW! i paid about $75 for each one.
  16. TUNSTEN ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!! They have better "Bottom Feel" and are harmless to the enviornment, which means i can KEEP CATCHING BASS IN THE FUTURE!
  17. Predatory fish can better see a white lure's silouette on a clear day, and a black lures silouette on a cloudy day. Most of my topwaters are either primarily white or black.
  18. ALL Quantum Reels... and rods, for that matter......
  19. Powerbait Chigger Craw is another good trailer... or by itself...
  20. I love the rage tails also. But there are times where less is more. In cold water, or around spooky fish, sometimes a trailer with less, or "flat" action is more suitable. For that reason, i prefer ZOOM slim chunks or Super Chuck Jr.s.
  21. as soon as the water comes up here in florida ill give them a shot around some docks... most of the lakes that have docks that i fish are ankle deep at the end of the dock . can you skip them? Yea, on spinning gear, but baitcasting gear is really tricky.
  22. My flipping/pitching is mainly finesse. I know, it sounds weird, but i have come to the conclusion that a bass in a pressured lake (like ALL of the ones i fish in) would be more willing to take a small, 1/8 oz jig falling slowly then a 3/4 oz heavy cover jig. I dont throw big, bulky jigs much, i mainly stick with footballs. And those "small looking" jigs are jst that, ligt and small. No bigger then 1/4 oz (or maybe 3/8, i cant remember). They are meant to be a Finesse type jig. They work. I have used them on 17# line before in heavy weeds, and they catch fish, and big ones. But i mainly use them around docks and such.
  23. I fish northern NJ, PA, and Southern CT. MY picks? Keitech Football Jig with a 3" Keitech Spider Grub. For bigger bites? Strike King Football jig with a Rage Chunk. I also like Bitsey Flip Jigs with ZOOM Thin Chunks. Ya know what, check these out: http://wackyworm.com/wwfamousjigs.html They are a small company from Pa. These little jigs just flat out CATCH FISH! When the going gets tough for me, I reach for a light baitcasting outfit and pitch these to docks with a ZOOM Thin Chunk. Seriously, I'm not sponsored by these guys, but i with i was!
  24. I worry about the drag. Sometimes, i "finesse pitch". When i have, maybe 2-3 bass in the well, and need a few more, quick, i grab a 7' med action rod, 12# fluorocarbon, and an 1/8 oz jig. My problem with the Ardent F.n'P. reel is that the drag is set at 22# (non-adjustable). I would HAVE to use line 25#+... I dont have confidence in that. But, if you are one of those people that rely on heavy braid for ALL of your flipping and pitching, id say id make a good reel. Come to think of it, if tyou use 30# braid on it, it wouldnt be a horrible frog reel either....... hmmm....... interesting... -TIGHT LINES!
