  1. I got one of those OLD mitchell 300 spinning reels that used to be my fathers when he was little that I use every now and then when I go Cat or carp fishing. That thing is indestructable.
  2. You guys might Laugh, but I throw braid with a flouro leader. I found that I have a hard time with rats nest with my Round Shimano Corvalus reel and using braid helps alot for me. But wheen it does rat nest man it's a mess
  3. Thanks all for your input. I went back there today to pick up the Fenwick HMG and the bait monkey hit me hard, Very hard. I ened up walking out with the Fenwick HMG, a 6'0" Shimano Crucial Baitcaster for $80.00, A 7'0" St Croix Avid Cranbait rod for $110.00, a 7'0" St croix Premier Glass rod for $45.00 and Finally a St. croix 6'3" legend tournament extra fast spinning rod for $120.00. Hope my wife dosen't wig out too much when she sees them One thing I do like about living in utah is the awesome deals that can be found on fishing stuff in the winter time Once again thanks for your replies. Jacob
  4. I have the opportunity to pick up a 6'6" M. Fenwick HMG spinning rod for $69.97 or a Shimano 6'6" Compre M. Spinning rod for $75.99 at my local fishing store and was wondering which one you guys would pick and why? I've used a Compre casting rod before and was pretty impressed, but I also had an older Fenwick HMX that I like alot as well. Was just wondering which would be the best bang for my buck? Thanks for your time, Jacob
  5. In my personal experience with ST. Croix. I would say that they have some of the best customer service around. I've sent in a few flyrods and a baitcasting rod without filling in the warranty cards and have never had a problem. You will be extremly pleased with your avid. Jacob
  6. Well here goes. I've been fishing in a local bass club for a couple years and would like to fish some of the more competitive tourneys next year. I'm a non boater and would like to keep my rod number at 4. Here's what I have so far: 7'0" Rogue Drop shot rod spinning rod 7'6" berkely lighting rod flipping stick 7'2" Shimano Cumara spinning rod. My question is that I need a good crankbait rod and was looking at the Powell 706CB. My question is that the rod's lure rating is 1/4 oz to 1oz which would suite me perfectly, but was wondering if it really handles the lighter crankbaits well? Hoping you powell guys could chime in on this Thanks, Jacob
  7. I picked up a 7FT. Rogue dropshot rod awhile ago here in utah for a $149.00. All I can say is it's freakin' awesome. Very sensitive and the recoil guides are pretty cool. So I guess what I'm trying to say is if you can find one on sale don't hesitate to get it. Jacob
  8. I think that's it. They look identical, but the one on Ebay is IM-7 and has fuji guides. Contacted seller about it, but they haven't replied yet. Thank you very much! Jacob
  9. I can't seem to get the search function to work properly for me so I'm sorry if this has been asked before. In my search to find a cheap, but good flippping stick I found a 8'0" or a 7'6" Evolution flipping rod on E-bay. It's a IM7 blank and uses fuji componets (dosen't specify which ones.). I was wondering if anyone has used or seen these rods and what did you think of them. Thanks for your time. Jacob
  10. I have a cruxis and it's been a good reel for me for the last two years. It was one of first two baitcasters I bought, the other was an accurist II and I like the cruxis alot more than the accurist II. Hope that helps.
  11. I was just wondering, forgot to list the lure rating. (It's 1/4-1oz.) I live in utah and where I fish really don't have alot of weeds or anything like it. It's mostly just trees. Weeds and moss don't come until later in the year and I don't find myself flipping alot then. Thank you for your guy's advice. Jacob
  12. I was in my local Sportsmans and saw a 7'10" Shimano Clarus Medium power casting rod on clearance for $29.99 I just have a few questions. Do you want a stiff tip for flippin' jigs or somewhat of a softer tip? The rod has a Fast action rating to it, but the tip seems to be pretty soft. I don't know if it's just because the length or what not. Was hoping someone out there owns this rod and can give me some insight. Thanks, Jacob
  13. I've had my Megaforce (Regular One.) Reel for about six months now and it sounds like the gears are grinding severly. I'll probally get alot of crap for this, but I have a couple of Quantum Accurist II's and they're a pretty good reel for the price. Not as good as my citica, but not bad especially if you can find them on sale.
  14. I'm still pretty new to bass fishing, but I use a 7'11" M Rogue Crankbait rod for shallow stuff and a cheap Cabela's E-Glass MH Casting Rod for deep diving crankbaits. The rogue rod will throw cranks very very far and the cabelas rod is surprisingly sensitive.
  15. I wish I could go to a BPS, but the closest one is in Las Vegas > Thanks for the info, I'll wait until they go on sale. Thanks, Jacob
  16. Thinking about getting a new crankbait rod for shallow cranks and probally some top water (Replacing a cheap Cabela's E-Glass Spinning rod.) I saw these BPS Crankin' Sticks and was wondering if they're alright. I assume there not the greatest, but I'm on a very tight budget. Any info would be appreciated and other recomendations are as well. Thanks, Jacob
  17. I have too many if you were to talk to my wife I have 13 spinning, baitcasting rods and 10 flyrods.
  18. Went back tonight and picked up the last 7ft Crucial! WHEW! and to find out remaining St croixs were gone as well. I asked the person work why they where clearancing alot of their rods and the reply was they just don't sell alot of spinning rods or casting rods compared to the amount of fly rods they sell, so their cutting back their supply. That rod feels really sweet. can't wait to try it out tommorrow night! I do have one more question? They just put out some falcon lowrider rods on clearance rack and was wondering if any of you had some feedback on their Flippin' Sticks, they're on clearance for $59.99. I had a tourny couple months ago and was just a little bit under-gunned for the condtions (10lb. test on a 6'6" medium Rogue casting rod.) Yeah that didn't work to well. Thanks, Jacob
  19. They're at my local sportsman's warehouse. They got some sort of clearance on alot of their rods up to 50% off. They even have a couple st croix avid drop shot rods for 109.99 and a couple legend tournment rods for 129.99. Jacob
  20. I have a 6' G-Loomis GL2 ultra light w/ a Shimano sedona 1500 spinning reel that Im looking to sale for around $75.00. if interested please email.
  21. First of all I'm new to this site and it's been a pleasure reading alot of your posts. I've learned alot for this site. Being new to bass fishing (Fly fisherman most of my life.) I was looking into getiting and casting rod for texas rigs and came across a couple diffrent shimano models on clearance first is a compre for $49.99 and second is a crucial for $79.99. One thing I did notice on the crucial is it didn't have a slpilt rear grip. I was just wondering if that's an older model? both rods are 7ft medium power. The compre is a fast action and the Cruical is a Ex-Fast. Just wondering which one would be prefered by you shimano guys? Thanks, Jacob
