  1. I sport a 6'0" Techna AV Medium Moderate for my jerkbaits and shallow cranks. I sure do love that rod
  2. That Lamiglas rod is a steelhead rod. I have a rogue river and a certified pro Lamiglas steelhead spinning rod and they're pretty nice rods.
  3. I don't have a elite tech river runner rod Yet , but I do own quite a few fenwick rods ranging from small river flyrods, bass rods, to steelhead rods. In my opinon I think the HMG and the Techna AV rods are stellar and the old elite tech bass rods where quite nice as well.
  4. Micro, How do you like that Fenwick Elite tech rod? I've been eyeballing thier crankshaft rod for awhile now at my local sporting goods store. Needing a good cranking rod to throw med-deep cranks.
  5. That's interesting? The two newer HMG's I have ( 7 Ft casting and 7 ft spinning.) don't have any issues with the reel seat not locking down all the way. I've used various brands of reels with these rods. I wonder if that is common among these newer rods or not?
  6. I have the newer and older versions of the HMG. My opinion is that the newer model is better than the old. I like the new grip material better , it more grippy (if that makes sense.) and also like the reel seats they're using on their newer casting rods. As far as the guides, I like the alconites over the berkley SS3304's, or the Hardloy guides unless I'm using braid, in which I use my rod with the Berkley SS304's. I was alittle hesitant to purchase the newer model, but after using it I'm glad I did. As far as warranty goes I haven't had to use it and I hope your warranty issues get taken care of Thanks, Jacob
  7. That for all the replies. I found a commuity pond that isn't quite frozen and took a chatterbait and my 7ft ST Croix glass crankin rod and my 7 ft mh HMG to experiment. I think I'll be just fine using my HMG. Once again thanks for your help everyone
  8. I have just a genreral question about throwing chatter type baits. Do I want to use a rod with a slower tip like a crankbait rod, or would just a standard MH casting rod with a fast action be better? I'm interested in trying them out and don't know anyone around me that has used them before. Thanks, Jacob
  9. I was about to go and pick up a new Fenwick HMG spinning rod and saw on tackle warehouse that they have the Elite Tech rods on sale for about $140.00. I own a couple older HMG'S and a couple HMX'S that I am quite pleased with. I honestly don't have alot of money, so I try to buy the best I can afford and was hoping on some input on these particular rods. Just wondering how they feel and if they're worth the extra money? I'm looking into Jig N' Worm rod or the Riggin' Stick. It would mostly be used for soft plastics in the 1/4 oz - 1/2 oz range. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Jacob
  10. I own couple of them. The drop shot spinning rod w/ recoil guides and a flipping stick. They're very light and very sensitive. They're great rods.
  11. You all might think I'm crazy, but I love my Fenwick HMG'S. I ended up getting rid of my legend tournament spinning rod and my rogue drop shot rod and replaced them with HMG rods becuase I liked the feel of them better. I haven't had the chance to use an upper echelon rod like the GLX, but I'm a firm believer in use what you have confidence in and I'm confident in my Fenwick's. Tight Lines, Jacob
  12. Yeah the two I bought where $69.97. My local Sportsmans is clearancing a ton of stuff. They have alot of lucky craft crankbaits on sale as well. Just wish my hours at work didn't get cut back so much. Kinda sucks working in aerospace in a recession
  13. I purchased a 6'6" medium power spinning rod awhile ago and absolutely love the rod and also ended up getting a 6' spinning rod a couple weeks ago. In all honesty I like it better than the compre I've owned and alittle better than my crucial I've got. Sensitivity wise I think they on par with the crucial I own. Where I live I've seen them as low as $69.97, so you might be able to find a good deal on them. As far as the Carbon Viel goes I'm really not sure what it is and the blanks are graphite. I think think the 7FT MH would be a great all around rod. Hope this helps. Jacob
  14. I don't know about the loomis reel, but the Orvis Battenkill Bar Stock reel is a really sweet reel for the price. I own one and it's been nothing less than great for me. It's made completely out of bar stock aluminum and the drag on the reel is silky smooth. I use it for double duty with trout and wipers. Like I said the drag is awesome. I've handled up to 10lb wipers with it (Not much fun on a 5wt though ) I guess what I'm trying to say is it's an awesome reel On the line I personally like Rio Grand for floating line in a WF and Either Orvis wonderline or airflo sixth sense for sinking lines.
  15. The above fly rods mentioned are great rods. I've owned many a flyrods from makers like Orvis,St croix, Temple Fork,Sage, Loomis, T&T,Redington and a few others. My personal Fav. is my 9' 5 WT. ST. Croix Legend ultra. That rod can throw some serious line. My local Sportsmans has them on sale for around $150.00, so maybe you can find one on sale. If you not looking into a large arbor reel, you might want to look at the Orvis Battenkill barstock reels. they're built out of aluminum bar stock and have excellent drags and can handle lots of abuse, also they're under $100.00. I hope this helps and tight lines!
  16. My older brother and my two older cousins have had theirs for going on I believe seven years. I believe they changed them since then. I've used it a hand full of times and really like it. It's cast small dries as well as streamers really well. To me it's more of a moderate fast action (compared to the sage FLI that I use.) It's a really good rod for it's price and if it's on clearance I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. Also St Croix customer service is awesome. I've had to turn in a couple fly rods for repair and had no problems what so ever. They're a great company and also make great flyrods. Hope this helps. Jacob
  17. Thaks for all your input. I plan on picking it up this coming friday. It will be a total of $43.19, so I guess if I don't like it atleast it was cheap It feels like a great reel, very smooth about the same weight as my citica and curado D's (I think?.) Maybe if I like it I might have to try a revo Thanks, Jacob
  18. I was at my local tackle shop looking for a cheap backup reel and came across this Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 2005 Lp. I'm assuming this is an older reel (Pre Revo?.) I've never used a Abu Garcia baitcasting reel, but have used their spinning reels and like them alot. I was wondering if anyone has used this particular reel and what you thought of it? Thanks, Jacob.
  19. I'm probally one of the few that will say this, but the Rogue 7'0" DS Spinning rod is a great Drop Shot rod. It's lightweight to me, super sensitive and the recoil guides are quite nice
  20. I've been a non-boater the last couple years and I tend to carry Six rods at the most: 7'6" MH flipping stick/ carolina rig, 7'10 M/H . Crankbait rod (Deep Cranks) 7'0" M. Crankbait Rod (Med. Cranks) 6'0" M. Crankbait Rod (Shallow Cranks, Topwater, Jerkbaits.) 6'0" M. Spinning Rod Dropshot 7'0" M. Spinning Rod T-Rigs and Football Jigs. (If you can't tell I like to throw Crankbaits ;D)
  21. I'd have to say my Curado D is pretty darn sweet. Haven't fish for bass (I'm in N. Utah ) with it, but I've fished with it for trout and am surprised how well it cast light setups. Plus I Only paid $70.00 for a brand new reel
  22. I got my father into bass fishing last year and for his birthday I'd like to get him a flipping stick. He's pretty set on other applications, but dosen't have anything that would make a good flipping, pitching rod. I'm looking to spend around a $150.00 for rod and reel. I've pretty much decided I'm gonna get him a Quantum Accurist II PT reel like I have. My question is I was looking at an ebay store called simmons sporting goods and came across a couple different quantum tour pt rods. The first is the PTC711FGH 7'11" Greg Hackney Model and the other is PTC767FTB Tommy Biffle model. Both are $80.00 + 18.00 Shipping and retailed at $199.99 at one point in time. I was wondering if anyone has used these and how do they stack up against others in their respected price range? I'm open to other options as well. Thanks, Jacob
  23. This probally has been discused before, but what is an ideal leader length when using braid for flipping and/or Pitching? I will be using either BPS or Pline flouro for my leader. Thanks everyone for your time, Jacob.
  24. That rod is an excellent Flipping rod. My best friend uses this rod for flipping and I got the chance to use it earlier last year. In my honest opinion it blows my Rogue flipping stick out of the water. I'm still fairly new to bass fishing, but with the avid I could feel even the most sublte bites. Hope this helps. Jacob
  25. I'm thinking about getting started in painting my own crankbaits and have a few questions. First of all would I be able to get a decent air bush for around $50.000-$75.00? Secondly what kinda of paint would I want and expoy or lacquer? Lastly where would I be able to find some unpainted lipless baits like the Xcalibur Xr50 or the Strike King Red eye shad, or would I just buy new ones and lighty sand or score the finish and paint them? Thanks for looking at my ramblings and any info you might be willing share Jacob
