  1. Check it out! ;D MORE INFORMATION HERE Ya, I know, a little blatant adverstising on the site, but really I'd like your feedback on this and other products in the catalog. Send me an IM with your thoughts!
  2. The new forum format or the site in general? The new forums: Mid Nov. 2004 (the member count is from that point forward) BassResource.com officially hit the Web in early '97 after 1 1/2 yrs of work building it. Since then, it has *ahem* expanded just a tad.
  3. Ok... here we go... Ready? Begin: http://bassresource.com/fishing/Learning_new_lakes.html http://bassresource.com/fishing/big_water.html http://bassresource.com/fishing/new_approach.html http://bassresource.com/fishing/approaching_new_water.html http://bassresource.com/fishing/fishing_unfamiliar_waters.html http://bassresource.com/fishing/fishing_unfamiliar_lakes.html http://bassresource.com/fishing/Reading_Maps.html http://bassresource.com/fishing/map_fishing.html http://bassresource.com/fishing_lures/fishing_with_maps.html Enjoy!
  4. It's a unique subspecies of bass that looks very similar to a smallmouth. It's called "Suwannee" because orginally they were only found in the Suwannee and Ochlockonee river system in Florida. They've since been introduced into a select few other rivers. So... they're pretty much a rare breed.
  5. Thanks BCAlbin. We've compiled "the essentials" for beginners here http://bassresource.com/beginner/beginner.html Enjoy! Glenn
  6. I guess I'm lucky. My wife fishes every tournament with me. When she insisted I buy a new Ranger, I knew I had to marry her! In fact, our honeymoon was fishing at lake Toho and the Daytona 500! ;D
  7. Hi J.T. Basically I was disagreeing with the premise of comparing Humminbird to Lowrance. They're not in the same class. That's not to say Humminbird sucks and everyone should run out and buy a Lowrance. It's just Humminbirds are better suited to those who like to turn it on and leave it, and Lowrance caters to a different market - people who like to manually tweak the settings every time they use it (and sometimes throughout the day). If you've used Humminbird all your life, you'd be overwhelmed and frustrated with a Lowrance. It'd be way too expensive if all you used it for was to find out the depth, and the schools of baitfish. But if you like Humminbird, then go for it!
  8. They have Wickiup Reservoir (http://www.lowrance.com/Mapping/LakeMaps/index.asp) and a whole lot more (http://www.navionics.com/PremiumLakeList.asp?RegionID=28&Classic=0&Gold=0&Premium=1) Enjoy! ;D
  9. Yes, I am. Unfortunately, it's only available on satellite in my area, which I don't have. :'(
  10. Well J.T., I have to disagree with you on that. I had a couple of Humminbirds and wasn't impressed (very limited options/menu choices; poor detail; kept freezing up or turning off randomly...). I felt handcuffed using them. I now have 2 Lowrance units on my Ranger and love them (X-15mt and X-97). Granted, they are far more technical and complex, so there's a learning curve on them for sure. But really, to get the most out of your depthfinder, you really need to take it off all the auto settings and dive into all the menus and settings. I guess it's a matter of personal preference. For me, a Humminbird is a great choice if you like to turn on your unit and leave it - especially if your main use is just to know how deep it is. But if you like to tweak it to maximize the detail, enjoy deep structure fishing, or are willing to delve into the nitty-gritty of getting everything out of your unit, Lowrance rocks! Now, color screen vs. B&W? Gotta say, I really like the color screens, they offer even more subtle detail you can't see in B&W. But I'll wait another year or two until prices come down a little more. They've already come down quite a bit.
  11. Here's a great shirt! ;D Go to THIS PAGE for more informaiton
  12. It was me. Look at the first post - it's a boat equipment question.
  13. Could be, but under a different name.
  14. 7 days and 100 new members later, we've grown to 500 strong!! It's amazing how fast these forums are growing. At this rate, we'll be at 500 a week in no time. I'm going to stop mentioning every 100th registration now, since the time span is so close between milestones now. Thank you for jumping aboard and joining the conversation! ;D
  15. How 'bout right here: https://bassresource.com/bass_fishing_123/bass_toho_05b.html
  16. I would never recommend SmokerCraft. I owned a '98 model aluminum bass boat and it literally fell apart on me. After only 2 years of normal use, the hull split on the bottom in two places, lost 26 rivets, and nearly sunk - and SmokerCraft wouldn't honor the warranty. > Absolutely the WORST customer service, and WORST built boat I owned. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. That's why I went with Ranger. The best built boat with the industry's best backed warranty with the best customer service (3 JD Powers awards). I love my Ranger!
  17. LOL! Well, I wouldn't use a certain oil! Ok, ok... family site. I use scent on my plastics - not really to illicit a strike, mind you. I believe the fish hold onto the lure longer, thus giving you extra time to set the hook. This is particularly useful when the bite is very light and hard to detect. But really, it boils down to confidence. If you believe it will help you, it will.

  20. Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. But as I've stated before, it's YOUR participation that makes these forums so great. It'd be very boring if nobody showed up. I'd be sitting here all by myself. I merely provided the platform for you all to use. I simply culled all the ideas and suggestions you sent in and implemented them. YOU are the reason these forums - and this site - are what it is. YOU make it happen! Y'all are great! ;D ;D
  21. It's not a brand, it's a type of jighead. Owner and Gamakatsu make them, as I'm sure many others.
  22. Geez guys, you're makin' me blush. Thanks for the kudos, really, thank you. But I can't really take credit for the expansion - a lot of you wrote me with your ideas and thoughts on how to improve the forums. I merely collected all your ideas and implemented them. In addition, I didn't post the message to get credit or praise. I just wanted to inform you that the change was indeed intentional and that yes, you're on the same site. I'm humbled by the great remarks and comments. I wasn't expecting that! Thanks!! ;D
  23. Hi there, Due to many requests for more forums, I have greatly expanded the message boards here. Hopefully this will make it easier to find the information you need, and generate more interest and posts. Enjoy! ;D
  24. Take a look at these articles - they may be of interest: http://bassresource.com/fishing/float_tube.html http://bassresource.com/fishing/float_tubes.html http://bassresource.com/fishing/float_tube_fishing.html Hope that helps!
