  1. This year was the most I've been fishing and the most serious I've been about it. I think I'm most happy about my improvement with spinnerbaits. Before this year, I could probably count the number of spinnerbait fish I've caught with one hand... Now they are one of my favorite lures to use.
  2. Hey all, so I am having some probs with the Revo S baitcaster I just recently purchased. My terminology is lacking, so bear with me.. The "casting button" doesn't 'click' definitively so it doesn't release the spool most of the times when I try to cast. The button will move down, but not 'click'. Sometimes, if I push the button down hard enough, the spool will be released (still without the click though), but when I reel, no line is picked up. The little line guide on the reel will move back and forth like in normally does when you reel, but nothing comes in. I have never done repair so I am at a loss. Does anyone know if Cabelas will do reel repair? I didn't buy the reel form there... Thanks guys.
  3. I don't know if its Fall yet but the fish were all over my spinnerbait today (at least the dinks were...) :-/
  4. I am very interested in this topic as I am looking to get a job before spring of next year. Something at least 14' that I can stand up in and will last a long time.
  5. Hey guys. When you guys work pop-rs, do you make it just a little tiny pop, or does it have that deep sounding glub glub glub sound. Just wanted to know what type of retrieves are effective for you guys.
  6. Took it out. It was my first time in a kayak so it took some getting used to and I still need to practice, but man it felt good to just be free. I only stayed about an hour, caught a dink on a pop-r. I'll figure out ways to make it more of a fishing machine. I've seen rigs with milk crates and such.
  7. ...YAY. I got a Loon 120 Kayak of CL and am in the process of hooking up the rack and stuff right now. After obsessing about it for the past few weeks I am no longer shorebound...It's not a Ranger, but I'm gonna be out on the water. I'll try it out later today.
  8. I hvae a Toyota Highlander that comes with a stock roof rack. I plan on getting a 10 or 12' jon and was wondering what I would need to be able to cartop a boat like this, and is it doable with one person? Thanks.
  9. So in WA state we've had a few days of steady rain and cooler weather, about 15 degrees cooler then what it had been earlier. Just wondering what effect this weather might have on the fish, and also, what is the immediate effect of rain and cloudy weather on fish? Like does it drive them shallow, off cover, too cover, etc. I'm planning on fishing tomorrow. Thanks.
  10. sweet, wish i could find a deal like that.
  11. Is it possible to mount a trolling motor on a canoe without a flat end, like a canoe in the picture? How would you do it? Thanks
  12. Hey all, I'm looking at buying a Malibu Pro Explorer http://www.malibukayaks.com/kayak_explorer.asp and had some questions. First, the boat is used and was used in salt water. Does this make any difference to me? Should I wash it or anything? I'm sure this will be a step up from my inflatable boat in this area, but how "spinnable" is a kayak. In other words, in wind, will I be spinning helplessly around and around? Any thing else I should know about the plusses and minuses of kayak fishing? Thank you.
  13. http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/boa/787249723.html First off, is this a pretty good deal? This will be my first boat and I don't know whats going on...lol. What type of hull is that? Should that shape be pretty stable enough for standing up in while fishing? What should I look for in the boat when I check it out? Thanks for all the help on all of my annoying questions.
  14. Hey all, I tried a search on jig/worm rods but all the recommendations were a bit pricey for me. I'm looking for a decent jigging/worm baitcasting combo in the 150/200 dollar range. Any suggestions? Thanks
  15. Don't have to get into specifics, but just general, ie. light spinning outfit for finesse, etc. Trying to achieve a versatile bare bones style.
  16. http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/boa/788615381.html Would I be able to put a gas motor on eventually? Like, would there be room to put it side by side in the back by the trolling motor? Is it a pretty good deal? Thanks guys. PS I plan on fishing smaller lakes, no big resevoirs or anything.
  17. Hey all. A lot of the lakes around here I see a lot of 2-4 inch sunfish. What are some good imitators for these fish? I've been wanting to try Fat Ika's but can't find anywhere round here that sells em.
  18. Ok...should I loosen the reel with the magnetic grake or the other thing? (The one with numbers or jus tthe small silver knob?)
  19. For example, I see a lot of baby bass and bluegills on docks. Does that mean there are no big bass under the docks? I mean, I can't really imagine the little fish feeling safe under there if theres a 3lber just roaming around with them.
  20. Hey guys, I was trying to experiment with getting my first jig fish yesterday and was trying to pitch to a dock with my baitcaster. However, when my jig hits the water, the jig falls towards me instead of straight down because of the settings on the baitcaster. Do you guys change the settings on your reel so that it falls straight down when using jigs? Does it cause more backlashes? Thanks. Any other good jig topics I could read also?
  21. So me and my bro are looking to get an affordable bass boat. Probably aluminum since I think there is less upkeep? Our budget is around 2000 dollars. I am a total newbie at this and have no idea where to start. I guess I'm mostly looking for durablity, casting decks and stability. Any suggestions? Thanks bros.
  22. Where: Deep Lake When:7am-11am, Aug. 4 Weather: Misty could cover in morning, then that lifted to reveal bluebird sunny skies Hit Deep Lake this morning. Had two rods with me and my tackle box in the inflatable boat. One with a 3/8 white willowleaf spinnerbait, the other with a shaky head watermelon trick worm. Water was very calm early. Caught a nice 2lber on the spinnerbait, probably about an hour into the trip. It was on the 2nd pad field from the launch, a few feet off the corner of the pad field and over the hyacinth patch thats there. I can't remember if the cloud cover was still there when I caught this fish. Caught 3 dinks later on the "dog" dock (always a dog there) on the trick worm. Skies were totally blue at this time. Played around with the jig a bit, but by then, the slightest wind was spinning me in my inflatable, so I headed out.
  23. Took a little trip today, mostly to test out how my small inflatable would fare. Where: Deep Lake When: 6:50 PM-8:20 PM Weather: 70 degrees, sunny with fading light, no wind. Thought the boat did pretty well, especially with two people. I'll have to gain more confidence in it before I try the bigger lakes. Hit the lily pad field right across from the launch, by the swimming area, because it is the closest "good" structure. Managed to get one little 12 incher in the pad field, close to the shallow edge on a trick worm on a shaky head. This spot seems good because it combines decent depth with hydrilla and lily pads. Also hit some of the weedbeds on the return trip; no takers. Is it too shallow here with not enough depth changes? It pretty much is 2 feet all around that flat with pretty sparse weed patches all around, whereas the other pad field has some depth to it, at least toward the outside edge. Planing on heading out early tomorrow. Also, heres a pic from Saturdays trip.
  24. Looks fun..I should try getting into jigs too.
  25. Went fishing Saturday, August 2nd. I will write the report now while its fresher in my mind and post pics when I can. Where: Lake Meridian When: 6 AM - 10 AM Weather: Bout 60 degrees air temp, not sure about water temp. Partly cloudy skies, occasional sunbreaks. Little to no wind. Water clarity is good, as it is in most of the lakes I've been to here. 4-5 feet. Started the morning throwing buzzbaits and spinnerbaits to docks and the spaces in between to no success. Spinnerbait was a white 3/8 double colorado blade. After about an hour we went to the opposite side of the lake, where it seemed to be shallower and more weedy. Lots of hydrilla, or water pines growing about 1-2 feet off the bottom. I started throwing a watermelon trick worm on a shaky head jig to the docks, trying to get under or adjacent to them as much as I could. After one cast to a dock, the worm fell, and I jigged it a little when I felt that "tap". Set the hook and pulled up a nice 2.5 pounder. It felt very good to catch a fish on a new bait I was trying. Let him go and only caught one more dink on a lily pad field edge. Overall notes; I should try to pay more attention to what I'm doing when I get the bites. I can't really remember exactly where I threw the bait when I caught fish- I want to be able to do that so I can replicate. - I wish I could be more productive with a spinnerbait. They seem like such versatile lures. I threw 3 types out there, different colors and blade setups. Mostly I was just doing a steady retrieve though, about 1 foot below surface. Maybe next time I should try changing up more. Also, I'll try actually hitting it against the docks instead of just running it parallel. Any other tips? Also, my bro gave me a inflatable boat, which I plan on using in the smaller lakes here. Til next time.
