  1. I am a fan of centrifugal brakes over mag, if I have an over run its mid cast. I have a stupid thumb I guess
  2. Yeah and if its negatively affecting your fishing I have three spools here. I wasn't kidding about ultra clear water, but 12lb on Murray will be fine.
  3. I was just yankin your chain. Seriously though Murray is a pretty clear lake.
  4. No that's a weightless plastics rod. Depends on where you are fishing too, if you have big hawgs and alot of cover then it may be your ul setup. On small rivers and clear lakes that is as big as I'd go
  5. I only fished ultra light for years, here is my take. 1. Do not get a short rod the longer the rod the more leverage the fish has not you. Think back to science class a rod is a lever, your hand the fulcrum (pivot point), the longer the distance between your hand and load (rod tip) the more effort it takes on the butt. The idea that a longer rod gives more leverage to the angler is wrong. 2. Do not go under a ML, a true UL acts like a shock absorber, takes all the fight that you want to feel. My suggestion in spinning gear a size 10 reel with at least a 6' 6" ML rod. Baitcast size 50 reel with a 6' 4" ML or light. The reason for a lighter casting rod is a ML rated casting rod is a medium spinning rod as far as ratings
  6. What the others have said but I dip the tail in chartreuse dye scent. I still remember the first time I wore polarized lenses and how the gill's tail glowed now every time I throw something to imitate a gill it has a chartreuse tail. I'll even replace the rear hook on a crankbait to white feather and dye it chartreuse
  7. Been a week since this was posted need some input, anyone interested?
  8. Need some input fellas, if noone can attend me and ninja will go fishin
  9. I've heard Bill Dance say many many times if they follow but don't commit its color 9 out of 10 times.
  10. IMO what to look for in a reel is an aluminum frame, quality bearings, and gears. I believe strongly in quality bearings and will buy an aluminum frame reel with 5 quality bearings over a graphite frame with 11 so so bearings even if the aluminum frame reel is twice the price. I will come out in the long run, the reel will last longer and perform much better
  11. I own everything from a BP Pro Qualifier to a Curado E, for a hundred bucks the PQ is hard to beat. There is at least one guy on Ebay selling the Tournament Speed Spool the 150 reel for 118, and the tournament spool with just mag breaks for 99. Those are a deal from what I know about the Lews. If you wait a little while the PQ's will be on sale for around 70bucks, good luck
  12. gun season came in here in SC Aug 15th goes out the 1st of Janurary, one of the longest seasons in the country.
  13. The Greenbrier and New river 4 inch curly tail for sheer numbers. Tubes and naked t-rigged craws, bitsybug jigs with a paca chunk trailer seem to catch bigger bass
  14. The lazy ikes are still in production. Can get them at lurenet. Fish them slow
  15. My favorite is the dead ringer by zoom, this bait has many options regarding tail and are hard to find locally, its awesome. Then Rage Tail Anaconda, great,
  16. I check mine out of the box, a hook should be sticky, if I can handle a lure and the hook doesn't grab at me then the hook isn't sharp. Typically its jigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and buzzbaits. Most of the time jigs are lost before they need sharpened. .
  17. Like bluebasser not a fan of the original. I've had great success with the Cordell brand, also SK and Excaliber brands. Bought a couple Academy H2O version they are an Excaliber clone expect them to do well. I really like red in the spring, then Shad colors. I don't like chrome in any crankbait, don't know why
  18. I do waste time deciding what to use, lol. My addiction isn't any better, went by Academy they had the clankin crankin raps for 4 bucks, about half what I see them anywhere else, plus they had the H2O swimbaits for 2.88, I won't say how many I bought, but I'm safe as the wife still has more shoes than I do cranks.
  19. I can still take ya out that week, let me know your schedule. Won't gurantee loads of fish, but we will have fun trying, ps I'll only bring my shimano stuff lol
  20. Come join us for a morning of fishing and a meet up around lunch, Oct 6th. More details to follow
  21. Date set Oct 6th, time to be determined. We may not do a meet before launching depending on everyone's mood and just meet up for lunch
  22. dude I don't want to know what that would attract, lol
  23. Can you make a fat ika out of the twin tail hula grub? Also you may want to quit peeing in your wetsuit. Watched a documentary on the history channel on shark attacks. The four ppl interviewed all had one thing in common, they peed in their wetsuit
  24. I would recommend 6 or 8lb yo-zuri the 6 breaks at 11 and the 8 at 14, that's figuring fishing like u described. These two lines don't require the ultra soft unless you are using a small reel of course there is nothing wrong with the mono, the yo-zuri is more sensitive
  25. 10lb line and 1/4 ounce bait just about any modern baitcaster will work
