  1. First thank you for thanking the time and money to get kids fishing, that's great. I know nothing of Ande line so can't comment, as far as the other two whichever is cheaper the day u buy it. Mono is fine and despite all the hype is sufficient for anyone and any presentation. Like u said its for kids who do not have money to buy it. So its better to give them something that when they need new line doesn't cost much.
  2. As far as catching more on the red hook in this example one could argue that its more due to bass eating bait fish head first. Put a red hook on the back and bronze on front the if the red still had more hook ups then there may be a correlation
  3. What kind of line was it. With floro or hybrid treat a kink as a cut. Floro has a crystal type structure and any kink ruins that section of line. Found out the hard way too.
  4. Tackle makers have had red gimmicks from the dawn of crankbaits. The famous creek Chub company made a lure in the 30's that was hollow they sold a red dye to go in the cavity. The logic was that it left a blood trail of sorts. Must not have been the magic bullet nobody to my knowledge does it now
  5. Pure fiction, but like with all fishing if it adds to your confidence use them.
  6. Wayne, how are you attaching the worm to your hook, looks like there is thread around it. I've been trying to figure it out.
  7. I think anglers put twist in their line by reeling while the fish is taking drag, if your reel is 5:1, one turn of the handle puts five twists in the line. When fishing spinning tackle NEVER turn the handle while the fish is taking drag. Alot of times it is done accidently the fish is coming in and then of a sudden makes a run while the angler is reeling.
  8. As you can see from the responses Long Mike is absolutely right, different fishermen different baits. One of my favorites is a plastic worm I've fished them alot, wierdly though I've never caught a fish on a Trick Worm, I've fished them but don't have the confidence in them. Confidence is key
  9. I absolutely love farm ponds, some of them hold true hawgs. Many state's state record LM comes out of farm ponds.
  10. I'm at the point that I carry 8. The way I explain it to my wife is this way. You can play golf with only 3 to 4 clubs and get by, but to do it well you need more. Does a golfer really need a sand wedge, a 9 iron would work. How many drivers does a golfer need, I know some carry 4. As one develops the need (or is it an excuse) for more rod set ups emerge. As a co-angler I ask the owner how many rods I can bring, I'm their guest and do not want to assume I can litter the deck with my set ups. If I'm limited to three I take a 7 M/F that I use for small worms, senkos, spinner baits, etc, a 7MH/F for big worms, jigs, frogs and a 7 Crankbait set up, I can get by with these three and fish anyway I want, if I need to drop shot I just put a 3/8 sinker on the 7 medium set up.
  11. The smallest round reel I've owned was a 4600 it held a bunch of line. With that said I could throw a 3/16 jig with a trailer probably brought the weight up to 3/8 oz. with any reel line capacity and amount of line on the spool has more to do with casting light baits. A 1600 should cast light baits just fine.
  12. Smallies love current find a rocky point with current if one exists. IMO nothing fights like a river smallie. Barring that the advice given is sold. The best bait for catching a quantity of smallmouth is a curly tail grub. For quality craws
  13. Hate water moccassins they scare the life out of me, gators don't bother me, but then again I don't go looking for em either.
  14. Smallie, shoals are green and I thought they have a red eye.
  15. Depends on what and how you are fishing. Worm rod M power Fast action, sometimes MH with a F, senkos, flukes same. Topwater Rage Shad or anything around slop MH/XF, as I don't want the fish burying itself and gettin away. Anything fat soft plastic i.e. big senkos, Rage tail shad, eeliminator, fat ika MH/XF if I have to use an EWG hook I use XF action.
  16. If you catch a really short fat fish or any fish of any size and get a skin mount it will be put on a replica "frame", there is noway to preserve the tissues, organs etc. All fish wether skin mount or replica start with a fiberglass or resin form. The difference is in the paintjob, either the taxidermist can do it or they can't that simple. Personally I don't see the need to remove the mountable size fish from the ecosystem. Why take the best genetics and put them on the wall? I don't have any mounts, I do have a couple of fish that I have recorded the measurements that will be preserved as a replica, but I will spend the money and get a good one. BTW during the preservation process the skin shrinks so even skin mounted fish don't have the exact measurements of the original
  17. Skin mounts are just as prone to a bad paint job as replicas, ever see a fish skin before mounting, it's really bleached you can barely see the patterns that were there before. The skin gets painted if the taxidermist is good it will look like the fish you caught. I have a buddy who has a few rainbows that he has mounted, one of them is painted like a salmon, solid red looks awful and it is a skin mount.
  18. I love Abu Round Reels, I have a couple of the Ext Pros, awesome reel, one is autographed by Hank Parker. The only complaint I've ever had is that round reels don't mix well with light weights. I've never had a Revo, but Abu has been around forever and build a quality product.
  19. I was over at tackle tour today if you haven't visited that site or read their reviews the team there seems very professional and do not get the reels they are reviewing for free, so they have no ties to the manufacturer nor do they feel they owe the manufacturer a positive review. Anyway , they had a review of the Caenan and they were not impressed, which is saying something because they are big Shimano fans. In fact they gave the old E5 Curado the Editors pick and top Cranking Reel honors (which I think was right, the competitors were the Winch, Diawa Crazy Cranker and Quantum Energy). Basically if it has the Shimano nameplate it typically gets high reviews from them. One thing I found interesting was that one complaint was how the reel "lost power" working big fish that they contributed to the graphite frame. Another noteworthy fact was that the Caenan, Citica G and Curado G have many shared parts and are not made in Japan but these reels are outsourced to Malaysia, all parts will interchange their suggestion was to pass on the Caenan and get a Citica or Curado. Hope this helps
  20. I love buzz baits, my favorite is a double prop, there is no buzz bait on the market u can fish slower. I hang mine out the window of my truck when new makes them good and squeaky plus the blades seem to start turning a little faster.
  21. I use both, worm fishing offset, rage Shad ewg. I don't retie have enough rods set up
  22. The plastics are prone to have the two halves not exactly lining up, one side will be offset from the other. These crankbaits have very unreliable action and never act the same way twice, don't know why, but I assume the water is not able to pass over the crankbait in a uniform pattern and results in a unreliable crankbait. I wish I could find the article that has all the information in it that helped me in understanding the crankbait better, very informative. Like when I stated how a clip added to the split ring affects action, most of the time its a very subtle difference sometimes drastic, I know when I started practicing the information in the article my success increased exponentially. But yes plastics are every bit as different from each other as wood.
  23. or the Aiken area, or Lexington, my back seat is usually empty
  24. I followed the links provided and KATV who orginally did a story on this has a copy of the letter from the AGFC to the angler. Several hours past and the fish did regurgitate "a large quantity of shad" possibly up to five pounds of shad but the exact amount is uknown, and when weighed in was 58pounds 3 ounces. I know fish will dry out and loose weight, but is it possible to loose between 5-10lbs in a few hours?
