Crawdad colors and info all you need to match the hatch
Here's a monkey wrench regarding color. In the case of most, if not all critters, their coloration serves at least two purposes, one to attract those of the opposite sex, the other to make themselves less visible to predators. It's why most fish are dark on the top and light on the bottom. Other colorations would make them more vulnerable to predators. There may be times when going against the grain, such as the pink color, work better. The moral to this story is that if the old tried and true, going by the book ain't working, throw out the book and do something "radical", presentation and colorwise.

Crawdad colors and info all you need to match the hatch
I'm going to talk a bit about their larger brethren, Homarus Americanus. They also have color variations which some attribute to diet. But I noticed slight, but distinct differences in color from one area to the next. Some had a bit more red. Some were brighter while others tended to be more of an olive drab in their green coloration. Some had bright red edges on their claws, others cream color and offshore lobsters had more of a tan edge to them. Yet others were darker on the claw edges. The color differences seemed to be more related to bottom coloration particularly the resident lobsters. This tells me that they have a chameleon-like quality to them in order to blend into their surroundings. I have caught blue lobsters which, according to biologists, lack certain pigments in their shell. I've also caught a lobster that was bright yellow with brown/black polka dots. It was of legal size so I brought it in. The dealer held it in his tanks so the biologists could get if for their studies. This coloration mattered not at all to the species of fish that fed on them, notably cod and striped bass. Having said that. I'd still try to match the coloration of the local crawdads. That one extra fish it might catch could be a trophy.

THEFT at b.a.s.s southern open/toho
Do you keep going to a barber who butchers your hair, or a restaurant where the food sucks, or a store where the help is downright rude? Why on earth do they keep going back to that hell hole where things get stolen, damaged or destroyed. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. No matter that they caught the thugs. It's too late to be of any help to those who lost their gear.

You're Invited to the 6th Annual BassResource.com Roadtrip!!!
Heard of the movie, but never seen it. Which came first, Scanners or Raiders of the Lost Ark? The wax figures all melt the same way. Gotta go. It's Springer time. Looking for a little culture. And that show has as little as any.

Scanners? Which type? I have a weather scanner, a vhf scanner, a scanner for the nascar races, a programmable scanner (the race scanner is also programmable) and a copier/printer/scanner. Oh yeah, and a side scanner sonar on my boat. Yep, I've heard of scanners.

THEFT at b.a.s.s southern open/toho
Apparently this is a recurring thing at some sites. Simple solution. Don't hold tournaments where these are not isolated incidents. I've read threads on here where guys say they pack because unsavory characters hang around the ramps, and they want to be able to protect their gear. Who protects their tow vehicle while they are on the lake? Another possibility. Don't stay in that vicinity. Stay a hundred miles away if necessary, and get up an hour or two earlier to get to the launch ramp. When I went to Pickwick last year, I stowed all my gear in the back of my truck, leaving all the storage lockers empty and unlocked. I've read horror stories about thieves tearing/cutting boat up to get into the "secure" lockers. Seems it would also be fairly simple for the competitors or groups of them to stay at the same facility and hire a security company to protect their gear. Cheap insurance if several share the cost. It's unreasonable to expect hotels/motels to provide a high level of security without a corresponding increase in room costs. Wise men avoid problems whenever possible. Only a fool puts himself or his property at risk when other options are available.

Lost my Buddy Today
Condolences man. It's one of the toughest things in life. Most dogs live to bring joy into our lives. They don't care if your a tycoon or a bum, they will remain loyal. The hardest part is when they look to you for help, and there is nothing you can do other than to grant them the peace of death. Make no mistake, as difficult as it may be, it is a great gift when their joy of life is gone.

Fishing trends...drive me crazy!!!
Back in the day, the 1960s, we (the kid next door) used 2 pound mono so we could cast the smaller size Mepps Aglia spinners, either zero or one. That was on my favorite pond smallie fishing before someone (another story) introduced largemouth into it twenty plus years ago. In May, during the spawn, five pound smallmouth were fairly common. It was not unusual to catch a half dozen to a dozen that size. On two pound test, with the drag set at next to no tension, it would take up to a half hour to get them to the boat. I mistakenly thought it was quite the sporting thing to do until my uncle from Huntsville, Alabama, who fished with what looked like tuna gear compared to my rod, taught me otherwise. The problem with "sporting gear" is that it wears the fish down to exhaustion while building up lactic acid in the muscles. A much higher percent of my fish would die because of this.

Burley's RPOTD
Having been through both, I beg to disagree. Can't tell you why, but after each of two endos, I was doubled up on the bed until I passed the air that remained. And yes, he did vent it as he withdrew the scope each time. Colonoscopy, no after effects other than that from the versid, propolol or whatever med they use to send you to la la land.

Exclusive Footage from Burley's Colonoscopy
Too much information. But, I'll make this observation. It happened in front of your wife, and it happened behind you. Pun intended.

A day at the dealership
Wait did you just by the boat by itself?or with the motor?usually theyre hooked up to optimaxes The entire package, boat, motor and trailer, and that was the bottom line price including shipping and prep. Regarding the Optimax, you may be correct. But the Nitros they had on the floor with them showed it as an extra cost option.

Something you guys might want to know
I looked up my name. Some popped up, but mine was not among them.

A day at the dealership
Those prices make me all the happier that I settled for an inferior Nitro Z7. Bought it brand new, 2010, from the BPS floor, trailer with brakes and a 150 hp Merc that scoots it along at 58.2 mph on the GPS not the 65 the speedo reads. Complete delivered price because it had a slight hollow above the waterline just ahead of the stern on the starboard side, of 19,300 dollars. Interesting thing about that hollow, in the heat of the summer, and jostling on the trailer and the water, most of that hollow straightened out. Even if it hadn't, I wouldn't care. The price was lower than the aluminum tournament v-18 with a 90hp Merc, and about the same as their Bass Tracker Pro Team 190.

Vinyl Sealant Question
Try Armorall or similar product. You need to provide ventilation to stop the mildew. Providing gaps for air to enter and escape might help, but it will also provide mice and other critters an easier access to a nice home for the off season. One other thing you can do. On a nice, dry sunny, breezy day, park the boat in the sunlight with all the compartments wide open and let it dry thoroughly. Make sure there is no water in the hull. Raise the bow of the boat and pull the plug. Chances are the moisture on which the mildew thrived was in the boat, and the cover kept it there. I keep mine in a garage and was told by the dealer to keep all the hatches open. Even stored indoors if the compartments are the least bit damp, they will mildew.

Best fisherman on this site....?
I'm going to put a different perspective on this. For my money, it's me. Not because I believe I could outfish them, but it's because I derive the greatest satisfaction, enjoyment, pleasure etc. from my fishing, not theirs.

Weigh of my bass boat
Fuel? 50 gallons of fuel weighs about 325 pounds. What about all your gear? You can probably add four hundred pounds to the dry weight of your boat, maybe more. I usually get 18 - 20 mpg highway. My wife and I visited our daughter in Georgia with my Z-7 on a single axle trailer in tow. We also had the short bed of my pickup stacked to the top of the cap with luggage, spare for the trailer, tools, Christmas presents, etc. I didn't even figure it out, but I know it was about 4 -5 miles less per gallon. Tow vehicle, 1/2 ton GMC 4X4 with a 5.3, 315 hp engine.

Just a lil help with fish finders please.
Thats what I thought J. You know the lakes I'll be fishing. I grew up on Owasco and fish the fingerlakes, Oneida Sandy Pond, and some smaller reservoirs like Whitney Point and as you have already directed me....Deruyter. I am leaning toward the Eagle fish elite 480 with the GPS and dual beam but that down immaging is sweet. I really don't want to spend $500 on one when I only spent $300 on the boat motor and trailer. Thanks for the response The price of the boat has no bearing on the importance of electronics. The sounders don't know, and don't care if they are on a 50 dollar boat or a 50,000 dollar boat. It's all the same to them, but all the difference in the world to you. I'm fond of saying this. A boat is nothing but a movable platform on the water to get you to the fish. The sonar/fishfinder/sounder, or whatever you might call it will show you what is going on beneath the surface of the water. Ain't a boat in the world at any price that will do that for you.

Boating shoes
Sounds like you've put a hurtin' on your joints. Some of them could be arthritic changes due to abuse. My wife started with some in her 20s, that's why I suggested checking with your doc. I've had arthroscopic knee surgery to trim a torn meniscus in my knee. No more pain. Been to a doc for elbow and thumb problems. The main reason was not because the pain was unbearable, but to make sure it wasn't something that required attention to prevent further damage. Turned out to be arthritic changes. He said my normal activity, while it might aggravate it, would not cause further damage. It would progress with or without my activity. He suggested trying a regimen of glucosamine and chontroitin. It is a natural product with no known side effects. Three pills per day. I did, and the thumb pain and burning elbow caused by certain motions have completely vanished. We rarely give a thought to our feet unless they are bothering us. However, foot problems can be responsible for painful symptoms elsewhere in the body. Balance begins at the feet. It's why comfortable shoes, which support the foot are critical. As stated in an earlier post, there are all sorts of shoe inserts to address particular problems. You mentioned carpeting so I'm guessing you have some type of bass boat. If standing for long periods of time is a problem, get a seat or leaning post to change the pressure loading from standing to different areas. You can also try motrin or other similar meds. Take as directed before going fishing. Don't wait until you experience discomfort. Don't take them regularly without your doctor's ok. Continued use of any med, including aspirin can cause problems.

Boating shoes
I just checked your profile. "After a life of sports and my job being on my feet all day?" Accoring to your profile you are only 25 years old. If you are that bad at 25, you really need to see a doctor. At the rate you're going you'll be a cripple by the time you are 40. I'm not being a wise guy, or spoofing you. It is very unusual for someone your age to experience such pain throughout your body unless you've experienced serious trauma. There are some very serious physical maladies which can cause such symptoms. Forget the boat shoes and any other forum recommended remedies and get yourself to a physician post haste.

Boating shoes
We can tell by your avatar you have an aversion to clothing of any type. ;D On a serious note, there are several types of orthotics to put in your sneakers/boat shoes to provide more cushioning. Some are foam, some silicone. The variety of orthotics provide relief for various foot and posture related ailments. Your doctor can best advise you about not only what type of device will be best for your condition, but also things you can do such as types of exercise that can relieve the pain and/or the cause of the pain. We can tell you what works best for us, but what works best for us might only aggravate your condition.

A new toy. Navionics Navplanner2
The pictures are not as sharp as they appear on the monitor. The problem is that I had to print them, then scan them into a folder on the computer, then open them to photobucket, and from photobucket copy the image irl and paste it onto the post. The last step should be ok because it's a digital transfer of a file. The scanning no doubt is the weakest point in the link as far as quality lost in a transfer. I've also downloaded google earth. Fugawi has a beta plug in which puts a satellite image and the map image side by each. There is no way of printing the image on the monitor. It's interesting to expand them and see that the docks and other features are are reliably shown on the map, even to the shape of the dock. I expect that once they get all the kinks out of the side by each thing there will be a charge for the plug and play to display the satellite image of the map image side by side.

Caution! Craigslist buyers
No, but there is an ID number on the engine that is linked to the VIN of the vehicle. Not so with boats.
