  1. That's neat, and ideal for waters that aren't available in hi def on the navionics chips. But, when planning to fish water you've never been on, that program won't do much for you, unless you want to take the time to chart the entire lake. Even then, it won't identify old river beds, bridges, submerged or standing timber like the hi def maps do. It wouldn't have helped me when we went to Pickwick last year, nor studying Lake Kentucky before getting on the lake in April. I'm 69, and the time remaining is too precious for me to chart waters when there are maps available, with more info than I'll ever use. It does look interesting though, and something for me to consider.
  2. Anyone have any experience with this product? It has all the coastal U.S. waters, plus all the freshwater lakes and ponds that are on the Premium chips from Navionics. Can't plug it into your fish finder, but you can put routes into a chip which you then plug into the port on the sounder, and it will overlay (if that's the correct term) the course onto your gps display. For 130 dollars, it looks like a bargain to me. http://www.myboatsgear.com/mbg/product.asp?prodID=2049
  3. When she is alone in the house, put some dog poop in a paper sack. Set it on the stoop, set fire to it, and ring the door bell. Then duck around the corner. If you're lucky, she'll try to stomp it out with her foot. If you're not, you may burn the house down.
  4. My take is that the term "transom saver" is a misnomer. My Mercury owners manual, and a prior poster said his Yamaha owners manual said not to trailer their boat without the motor tilted up. Both said not to use the power tilt or the tilt lock to keep them tilted during trailering. I conclude that it is to protect the lower unit from striking the ground in the down position. What do the boat manufacturers recommend?
  5. I looked at the Atlantic Mapping site, but unless I missed something, you have to purchase access to the maps. Kentucky lake was like 75 dollars. This is compatible with the electronics that can use the Navionics map chips. It has about all the lakes and ponds that are on the north, south, east, and west sections in high def, one foot increments. You cannot download the maps, but you can plan routes on the Navplanner2, download that onto a chip and use it in compatible GPS navigation electronics. That includes Lowrance, Humminbird, Garmin and others. You can also print out the maps. For a hundred thirty dollars, it looks like a bargain. It also includes all the coastal waters as well. Anybody have hands on experience with this?

  9. I haven't seen the movie "Teeth". For some strange reason, I think I'm glad I haven't.
  10. Peridontal issues are always a pain in the ***. Too bad mine are genetic. Not a darn thing I can do except maintain good oral hygiene and hope for the best. Hmmmmm, do you need a dentist, or a gastroenterologist? A colonoscopy to examine your wisdom teeth?
  11. I'm not going by what they said about him. I'm going by his own words and actions. He's had ample opportunity to refute those things attributed to him in the media. I haven't seen where he has gone after the media. His main statement concerning the media is that they better watch out, they might be the next to feel the wrath of exposed governments. That the major media might be suppressed. To repeat, he exposed nothing. The stuff he released only confirmed what most of us believed or suspected, that politicians and government officials are two faced.
  12. Why would anyone trust Assange? Who knows what he really is, or what he really wants? It's the fact that he has exposed what most of us already knew, that what the pols put out for public consumption is a facade. Anyone with a lick of common sense and a modicum of life experience already knew that. Personally, I think he's a slimeball. Here's why. When there was initially talk about the gendarmes arresting him he threatened to release a vertitable flood of documents. Now wait a minute. This smacks of blackmail or the use of hostages as a bargaining chip. If as he claimed earlier the threat to release them would have only been a matter of timing. Or was he not going to release them. We don't know enough about the man and his motives to proclaim him a hero. But what I've seen of him in this arrest deal causes me to distrust him.
  13. Sounds like a camber problem. On a trailer, the tires should be perpendicular to the ground. If it tips in or out at the top, you will wear out one edge of the tire. With that much wear in so few miles, I'd also hazard a guess that wheel is also toed in or out. The combination of camber and alignment problems will cause the tread to scrub along the pavement. You can check both easily. Get the trailer on level ground and then place a level against the top and bottom bulge of the sidewall. It should be plumb. You can also use a framing square. Put it against the sidewall bulges and the pavement. It should sit flat on the pavement and contact both the top and bottom bulge of the tire's sidewall. A couple of helpers will make the toe in/out measurement easier. You'll need a couple of straight edges that are a foot or so longer than the diameter of the tire, and a measuring tape. Having the straight edges held against the tire, parallel to the ground at axle height, measure the distances between the straight edges at the front and rear of the tires. They should be equal. You'll be able to tell which way the axle is bent once you check it out. I'd suggest taking it to a place that does spring work for trucks. Chances are they can straighten it, and do the job right.
  14. Merry Christmas to you as well. When we visit our daughter in GA, we usually go over the Tappan Zee bridge to 287 south. We've done the I-84 route west to I-81 south one time. It's a bit longer, but a nice drive. On one of our future trips we'll have to go that route. I'll stop in, say hi, and pick up a few things to support one of the BR sponsors. And, if I ever have the occasion to fish that area, a bit of advice. Thanks for supporting the forum.

  17. Keep in mind, with two wires side by side, the shrink tubing will not make a watertight seal, it will bridge the gap between the wires, but not fill it. It allows for water intrusion. Get a small container of the liquid latex. See below. You should be able to find the same sealer at a hardware store or home improvement center. http://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Spectro/SWC50122.html
  18. Back in the Stone Age, when I went to public school, we recited the pledge of allegiance every day, either before or after "The Lord's Prayer". Opening "exercises" were a trifecta because the two parts were accompanied by the teacher reading a short passage from the Bible. I do not remember a single person being traumatized by it. When something is done as a ritual, it actually becomes rather meaningless. We may have been uttering the words or not, but our minds were usually wandering elsewhere. Back then, teachers inflicted all sorts of humiliation upon the troublemakers, sometimes, even pain. Standing in the corner, wearing the "dunce cap", having to stay in while classmates went out for recess and having to write several times on the blackboard, "I will not talk in class", arm squeezing, hair pulling, and the very rare slap were all acceptable disciplinary procedures. Disruptions were not tolerated. Self esteem was something you achieved by paying attention, applying yourself, and actually learning or accomplishing something. Today we have ultra sensitive, thin skinned, easily offended individuals, and groups who expect to go through life without any unpleasant circumstances. We were taught readin' and writin' and 'rithmetic, not that we should "feel good" about ourselves simply because we had a pulse. Some, especially the NEA will tell you education has gotten better with the evolution away from the olden times. Test scores and the results of these "improvements" tell an entirely different story. Now, education teaches that we are all the same. No one is any better than another. Noble philosophies. Destructive philosophies. After 12, 16 years or more of education, at some point one has to go out in the world. Talk about a reality check. One quickly finds out that competition is a reality of life. All are not equal. Self esteem becomes an anchor around one's neck, not a liberator. I've never seen a career, other than in politics, where self esteem is part of a job description.
  19. Seems to me that some of the staff acknowleged that by law the pledge is to be recited daily. They also said it's not enforced. So, it is on the books. Just like there are laws about illegal immigration that are frequently winked at. It ain't just FOX news. Here's a local NBC station's article. They cite "permission slips" as well. They picked it up from an article in the Boston Globe, which can hardly be equated to FOX news. http://www.wptv.com/dpp/news/local_news/water_cooler/massachusetts-school-requires-permission-slips-to-recite-%27pledge-of-allegiance%27 Posted: 12/22/2010 "Brookline, MA - A public school requires permission slips to recite the "Pledge of Allegiance," according to an article in the Boston Globe. In his letter to parents, the principal said teachers and students can't be mandated to participate in the pledge under the Constitution, and called it a personal choice to participate, according to the article. Should public schools require permission slips before reciting the Pledge? Leave your comments below." I doubt this thread is long for this world.

  23. Man, you don't get around much. Come on up to southern New England, particularly Massachusetts, RI, and eastern Conn. We pronounce porn and pawn the same. The New England accent is to drop a lot of the Rs in words. Ever seen the scene at the beginning of JAWs where Roy Scheider who hails from New York in the movie mocks the Yankee accent. Pahk the cah in the yahd. Born, corn, horn, morn, porn, torn and worn are pronounced like dawn, fawn, lawn, and yawn. It's perfect.
  24. I prefer the inline type of connectors where the wires butt to each other. More streamlined than the side by each type. Can use smaller shrink tubing on the inline connector. Regarding the LEDs. They draw less current than the filament type of bulb. Shouldn't pose any problem that I know of.
