  1. I'm sorry. I never sausage a thing. Adapted from one of the billboards advertising South of the Border on I-95 in the Carolinas. "I never sausage a place"
  2. Nah, I don't mean things said in anger or frustration. I mean things that can and will be taken the wrong way. It was out of my mouth before I could stop it. Last name changed to protect the guilty. We went to the pharmacy to get a birthday card and a few items. The pharmacist, who we've known for years named Peter, greeted us by saying, "How are the Armstrongs today?" In a snappy reply, I asked him, "How's the Peter today?" He said, "Fine." I then slunk around the corner to where the consultation window is. He came over and I apologized. Told him it was out of my mouth before I realized how it sounded. He looked puzzled for a moment, then couldn't stop laughing. Fortunately there were only a couple of others around, and it seemed to pass over their heads. Maybe they were just being polite. As we were leaving, my wife asked me what I had said to Peter. It had gone over her head, but she said it explained why I had turned red.
  3. Have a little hot dog with that mustard.
  4. Remember the heavy rains that shut down Nashville, and ruined the Grand Old Opry? That was the weekend we arrived at Pickwick for the Road Trip. None of us had a problem catching fish with the lake several feet above full pool. Was the hardest rain I've ever fished in. Big O said he had both bilge pumps running in his boat and the water in his cockpit was above his ankles. Thunderstorms drove us to ground a few times, but the fishing was great when the skies cleared and the lake's surface was like glass. Fish areas where the runoff is pouring into the lake. Bugs and worms caught in the current will attract fish where they enter.
  5. Here are two gruesome, campy, and laughable oldies. Starring Vincent Price. The Abominable Dr. Phibes and Dr. Phibes Rises Again. Both run about an hour and a half.
  6. Very nice! Now, go make some happy memories in her.
  7. We've all seen or gotten those emails telling you that so and so is holding millions of dollars for you. Send them all your personal info such as bank numbers, social security number etc., and the money will be deposited into your bank account. This one is a little more modest. They are only going to get 154 dollars. Here's the entire email. Funny, it lacks my name. Why do you suppose that is? After all, they have to know it. They intercepted a package that was sent to me. I wonder how many buffoons will be taken in by this one. What if there really is an ATM card? How much can I access? Five bucks? Five cents? In one place it says they have to because of the anti terrorism laws, then they say it's to protect against identity theft. 8. Bluebirds in the dead of winter. Southeastern Mass.
  9. I don't see any difference in the before and after photos. Trailer looks the same in both of them.
  10. For the life of me, I cannot understand how some folks think. I have to think officials in that neck of the woods have alerted boaters to the dangers of just getting near Mexican waters on Falcon. What is so tempting in Mexico that this couple risked their lives to go there? I'd give the dividing line a wide berth.
  11. Why does that statement make the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High come to mind?
  12. I doubt a 55 pound thrust electric motor produces anything near one horsepower. My opinion is to get a gas motor to use for longer runs, then use the trolling motor for fishing. I have a 55 pound thrust MinnKota for my square stern canoe. Even with the larger size deep cycle batteries, running from here to there on high speed during normal fishing will wear the battery down in five or six hours. When I fish smaller ponds, and rarely use it on high speed, the battery still has plenty of juice after a day's fishing. Could probably get a couple of days fishing using it like that. The five hp gas outboard will move your jon a lot faster than a 55# trolling motor. Unless you do an inordinate amount of running around, you won't use a gallon of gasoline in the outboard per day of fishing.
  13. Some interesting articles on the topic. Light truck tires can be used on trailers, at least according to some articles. As a side note, if the axles on a multi-axle trailer are not parallel, and perpendicular to the centerline of the trailer, they will scuff the tires evenly, and they will show no irregular wear. It is not like a car alignment which has caster, camber and toe settings. http://www.taskmasterproducts.com/acatalog/whybuytrailertires.pdf http://www.ehow.com/about_5552521_trailer-tires-vs-car-tires.html http://www.ehow.com/facts_5764475_trailer-tire-vs_-passenger-tire.html http://www.ehow.com/facts_5764475_trailer-tire-vs_-passenger-tire.html
  14. As a rule of thumb, do not lend to, or co-sign for family members unless you are willing to look at it as a gift should problems arise. Don't gamble more than you can afford to lose. I know. It's hard to say no to family.
  15. We have brought up fish from deep water in our lobster traps, and seen what we thought was the air bladder protruding from their mouths. Been a while but I believe it was hake that were so affected by being suddenly brought to the surface from 150 to 200 feet of water.

  19. I do agree with what the forage is doing, I just don't think barometric pressure has that much influence on hydrostatic pressure. And that correlation is backwards, anyway. The higher the pressure, then the aquatic creatures would have to move up to compensate. I think it has to do more with light levels, wind and current. A low pressure front moves in, clouds block the sun, there's wind, creating current, and the critters come out, followed by the baitfish, followed by the game fish. It affects hydrostatic pressure in direct relationship to its rising and falling. When I was a kid, there was a popular toy in a bottle with a squeeze bulb attached. Left alone, it floated, buoyed by an air pocket within. When you squeezed the bulb, the thing mysteriously settled to the bottom. Squeezing the bulb compressed the volume of air contained within so it could no longer float. I seem to recall it was a small boat, maybe a submarine.

  22. I remember when Gatorade appeared on the shelves. It was marketed as a drink that replaced the the minerals and fluids lost during exercise. So I figured what the heck? It may not be cold and refreshing, but the cheapest solution was to lick my own sweat.
  23. I stand corrected. It's been a while since I joined. Shows to go you just how computer literate I are.
  24. Right down to the three fingers at the fish's belly, the fish at chin height, and the wristwatch.
