  1. Not sure if this belongs here. Today, while fishing a pond on Cape Cod, we saw a machine exactly like this in action.
  2. Ferrari? Nah, this is more like it.
  3. Reminds me of Johnny Five, the robot in the movie "Short Circuit". A Segway with tracks.
  4. Ahhhhh, the joy of a superior aluminum boat. Lighter, easier on the trailer, the tow vehicle, and the fuel bills, on and off the water.
  5. Since you cannot use the measurements of the springs, find a boat with similar sized lockers, and measure the gas tubes in it. Be sure to note, and take measurements for the locations of the mounts on yours.
  6. On windy days, the ride is a lot rougher in the bow. Electronic gizmos don't usually take kindly to being thumped around. Either way you're going to have to run wires to the battery compartment, be it a power source to the charger, or the wires from the charger to the batteries. You did not say what type of boat you have. All the "bass boats", aluminum or fiberglass have the heavy items (batteries, fuel tank, live well, etc.) located toward the stern, behind the passengers.
  7. Sounds like you could be talking about skid marks in your drawers.
  8. You want before and after pictures of New Angler's diapers?
  9. Considering the sad state of political affairs for years, even decades, and considering that many of those in high places in government have a list of degrees as long as their arms, maybe we'd be better off if we had college or even high school dropouts running the government. They certainly couldn't do much worse than what is predominently lawyers running the show.
  10. Not counting the dribs and drabs of baits, my latest acquisition a few weeks ago was a Humminbird 728 for the bow of my bass boat. Now I need to order the interlink so I can use the GPS capable features and link it with my Humminbird 898 side imaging unit.
  11. LOL.........you must really hate Jerry. (but aren't the owners supposed to call all the shots?) If I had the most valuable team in football, I would. (not to mention he's the reason they are the most valuable team in football.) b He's part of the reason. Their history is a part of the reason. Jerry Jones is the George Steinbrenner of football, sans the long term success of the late Steinbrenner. The most "hated" owners are generally those who are also the most successful, with a few exceptions.
  12. It bothers me about the same as someone who tailgates my vehicle with or without the trailer behind. At least the boat provides a buffer zone. If you have a transom saver and the motor tilted up, it seems to deter them from driving so close.
  13. Rarely do trailer tires wear out the tread. They get "dry rot". It's actually damage caused by UV rays from the sun that is commonly known as dry rot. Get two new tires, and wheels as needed. Put them on the trailer and keep the surviving tire as a spare. If you keep your rig stored outside, cover the tires to protect them from the sun. They will last longer.
  14. It ain't only the better financial situation. It's also conserving your energy for more important things. Like fishing.
  15. Possibly caused by oxygen depletion. In the Northeast, salt water, it is not uncommon to have die offs of menhaden when the water gets too warm, and holds less dissolved oxygen. My guess would be they die off first because they are more sensitive to low oxygen levels. Could be the same reason you haven't found any dead bass. That and the bass might be at different depths. It could also be the result of a pesticide or some other chemical that has only affected a small area, and maybe only on the surface. The green could be an algae bloom. I've seen times when it is only on the surface. The wind can blow it to one shore or cove, depending on the shape of the pond. If it is an algae bloom, it's not likely that it caused the the kill. Algae kills when it dies off, and the decomposing algae consumes too much oxygen in the process.
  16. The dumbest thing was probably the coach taking a time out when there was a time out for the measurement. The ref even asked him if he still wanted the time out, and he said yes. The Giants/Panthers game was about as poorly played also. Neither team seemed to want to win the game. There were eight or nine turnovers, dropped balls, and sloppy play. The Panthers were the gift that kept on giving. The Giants were only slightly less charitable.
  17. Congrats. Maybe you'll be able to make next year's road trip.
  18. It's bad enough when you're on a lake or pond and it gets rough. On a river, swollen by rains, you not only have a faster current, but also stronger eddies and swirling currents, making for a much hairier situation.
  19. Well said. I do the same. I like to find what I call "transition bottom". It can be a structural change, a change in composition, or a change in cover, where the bottom transitions from a barren bottom to one with vegetation. When I find, or start catching fish, I note the appearance of the bottom echo and the depth, with emphasis on the bottom echo. Usually when I find a similar echo, I will also find fish. If I find a similar echo, but at a different depth that doesn't produce, then I will target areas with the same type of bottom at a particular depth. I know that some have great success fishing the arches, but they know something I don't because it hasn't worked for me yet. I still try it from time to time, primarily with a drop shot rig in deeper water, but have yet to develop any proficiency in knowing what, where, and when. Hopefully, someday I'll get the knack and understanding for doing that.
  20. I can't say for sure about the crab pots, but I assume they are similar to lobsters, for which I commercially fished for over twenty years. The bottom that held lobsters, also held fish, and for the same reasons, structure, cover, and forage. There were times that lobsters would be found in higher concentrations at various depths along ledges and reefs, sometimes in the shallower, sometimes deeper, and other times in between. I'm surmising that the crabbers in your area are after the blue crab. We also have those around here, but they are mainly found in the rivers and bays, rarely in the ocean. There is no pot fishery for blue crabs in this area. Mostly, they are caught with a piece of fish tied to a line. Toss it out from shore, let it sit for a while, then drag it in slowly. It seems once they grab a dinner, they are reluctant to let it go. Some fish with a mesh contraption, baited in the middle with a fish head, or trash fish. That is set out from the shore, and occasionally pulled in. It sort of folds up around whatever has crawled onto it. Mostly, they are caught in sandy or muddy bottom that has eel grass, and along the banks of marshes. The crabs we catch in lobster gear around here from the coast to offshore are the Jonah or Rock crabs. If your quarry is in the area of the crab pots, they at the very least provide a reference for positioning, not unlike marker buoys.

I have the HDMI cables on our high def tvs, but, I'd like someone to explain this. The signal comes from the satellite on a coaxial cable, the same for some cable companies. If a chain is only as strong as its weakest link how does an HDMI cable improve the signal received from the satellite's coaxial cable? It seems to me that what comes in on coaxial can be carried just as well by another coaxial for the audio/visual signals. Fiber optics are another matter.
  22. A friend of mine puts it this way. BS Little Beaver, BS. The BS makes the green grass grow. The green grass makes the BS.
  23. Try a dropshot with the sinker set so that the bait just brushes through the top of the grass. Rig it weedless if possible. Use a cylindrical sinker, it will go through the grass easier than the round drop shot sinkers. I like to feel the sinker fetch up in the grass from time to time, then pull free. Doesn't matter if the sinker has vegetation hanging from it. Another favorite is the wacky jig head hooks with the weed guards for vegetation. You can use wacky rigged worms, craw type plastics, creature baits, etc. Work it around through the vegetation along the bottom, or suspended above the bottom, but still in the weeds. I prefer the 3/32 ounce weighted hooks. A different weight may work better for you. It depends on how you tend to work your retrieve.
  24. You could use it for fishing from the beach. Let it fly your lure over the target, then release it and voila. Just think of the places you could put your baits, under docks, low branches, and into those hitherto unreachable places.
