Johnson/Knaus
They could make it five in a row. Gordon had his hayday with Evernham. For whatever reason, Ray wanted out. Neither he nor Jeff have enjoyed the success they once had together.

I'm gonna get in my truck and drive.......
Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina. A buddy and I are heading to Georgia March 20. Will be fishing the small pond behind my daughter's home and relaxing on Sunday. Monday, off to Varner with a guide. One day on a private pond with a managed population of biggies (supposedly). Maybe another guided trip at the end of the week. Plenty of small ponds and lakes that are perfect for small boats and canoes. Most don't allow gas engines or boats over 16 feet. The snow is gone around here, and the temps did hit 50 today. The next sunny calm day, I'm going to hit my favorite pond with jigs and shakey heads.

´Puter geeks, got a "?"
Right click on "My Computer". Click on properties. In the next window that opens, click on "Tools" Then click on "check disk for errors" or something like that. The next window that opens might have two boxes both having to do with repairing the registry. Put check marks in both. Then click OK. You will probably get a message that tells you it cannot perform disc check because it needs resources you are using (paraphrase). And will ask if you want to schedule diskcheck the next time you start the computer. Click on yes. Running diskcheck can take a couple of hours or more, so do it when you won't be needing the computer for a couple of hours. Bedtime is always good. It will repair and restore the registry. That solves most of the computer problems. You'll find it much faster afterward as well. Also, check for updates while you're at it. Even if it's scheduled to automatically receive updates, a corrupt registry may prevent that from happening. I was having an update problem and running diskcheck solved it.

BPS Reel Trade In... Are you kidding me?!?
When did they start making labtops?! ;D I'm from RI, remember. You say sandwich, we say grinder. You say milkshake, we say Cabinet. You drink chocolate milk, we drink coffee milk. It is a different language up here. In Fall River they are also called cabinets. But head east from Fall River, and that "cabinet" becomes a "frappe" which sounds like a pile a cow might leave in a field. Then Newport Creamery calls them Awful Awfuls, and Friendly's calls them Fribbles.

How much leader do you guys tie on your braid on spinning tackle?
I use 15 pound braid, with 20 pound fluoro for jigging in the rocks. Ten pound braid with fluoro leader, but most of the time late last summer and into the fall, I used 6 pound mono or fluoro, with a swivel, and 20 pound fluoro leader, for the occasional large pickerel that came along. There weren't a lot of places where even a big fish could take you around a hang.

Two wrecks and her standings are not facts? Or does she get a pass for bad hair days. They are facts, but it is also a fact that she did not cause the wrecks. Jeff Gordon destroyed a lot of cars in his rookie year in what was then the Busch Series. And he was responsible for a lot of them. According to your judgement, he never should have gotten a Cup ride. But we all know how that worked out. In all her Nationwide races she has tried to stay out of the way. That's what any smart racer would do until they get a handle on things. Her first experience with racing full bodied cars was the ARCA race the weekend before the 500, and she did a great job in that. The doofus who cut down on her in Vegas was to blame. He had plenty of room to stay up. Blame him or his spotters for what happened. I'm not saying she's a great driver. She hasn't had enough track time to make a reasonable judgement.

I always use a leader with braid. I fish in some very rocky places, and have lost a few nice fish because they dragged the braid over a rock. The braid popped like it was sewing thread. In vegetation, braid by itself is fine. To answer your question. I make the leader as long as possible without making casting difficult, when using a swivel for drop shotting. The extra length allows you to change lures or retie several times, when the line near the hook is damaged. When tying directly to the braid, I use an Albright special know which passes nicely through the eyes. When line twist may be a problem, I use a swivel. When twisting is not likely, I tie directly.

A bait you hate to use
B---o M----w? Don't you know just using those two words in that order can get you banned? I thought the program blocked them. Only one thing I hate to use, treble hooks. Nasty things, especially with two or three of them dangling from a bait.

I coulda sworn Cope won at Daytona because Earnhardt ran over debris on the track and cut down a tire. Regarding gas mileage, so what? A win is a win, is a win. How many races have been won by a driver thanks to their pit crews? How many races have been lost likewise. See yesterday's race when Gordon dominated most of the race, though Johnson could keep pace with him, and may have been biding his time. That two tire call was just plain dumb with twenty or so laps to go. When Letarte called for two, I knew Jeff wasn't going to win. He did not stand a chance. I seem to recall that many of Ryan Newman's wins during his winningest year were of the so-called gas mileage variety. The Rousch team has many gas mileage wins under their belts as well. Just ask Edwards and Biffle. Races sometimes go to the best, sometimes it's luck. Logano's first win, at Loudon, if I'm not mistaken came when his team gambled and had him stay out when those ahead of him pitted during a rain delay. The race had to be called, and Logano won it with fumes in the tank. It's like golf in that regard. In golf, it doesn't matter if you're lucky or unlucky, it's the strokes as in, "They don't ask you how, they ask how many." In any given race, Lady Luck may shine on the unlikely to produce a winner. No team wins championships on luck alone.

Any car guys, help please?
Been a long time since I've puttered around under the hood of cars or trucks. The solenoid on older Ford products was usually located on the fender well beside the battery. That was in the days when FoMoCo used bendix starters. Maybe they still do. GM products had the solenoid on the starters. In addition to closing the contacts, they also pulled the starter gear to engage the ring gear on the flywheel. I like the solenoid close to the battery. Other than for starting, the cable that runs to the starter is dead. I had an 83 Chevy Silverado pickup, less than four years old. I parked it, went about some business, and when I returned, smoke was pouring out from under the hood. Popped the hood and the engine compartment was ablaze. The fire was started by a short, where it passed through a clamp on the frame. The insulation had chaffed away. The dead short heated the cable igniting the plastic insulation. From there it spread. The fire department quickly arrived and extinguished it. The hood had a small place where the heat had discolored the paint, and the wiring under the hood was a mess. But in spite of appearances, the insurance company totalled the truck. It was determined to be a short at the cable clamp because the wire from there to the starter still had the insulation with all the printing still on it. It seems everyone I talked to about it knew of someone with the same problem. That experience showed me that the solenoid near the battery was a safer design.

Any car guys, help please?
It's a Ford product. They used to have a solenoid in the battery cable that goes to the starter. When you turn the ignition key to start, a current goes to the solenoid which activates it to send the power to the starter. There will be the two heavy cables connected to the solenoid, and one or two smaller wires. If you have jumper cables, jump the two heavy cables at the solenoid. Clamp one end of the jumper cable to the cable leading from the solenoid to the starter, then touch the other end of the jumper to the battery. That will bypass the solenoid. If it still won't crank, the starter needs to be checked. If the starter works, the problem is related to the solenoid, either with the solenoid, or the wiring that activates it.

Don't neglect the ground cable. Many electrical woes on autos, boats or anything with batteries can be traced to a poor ground. Check both ends of the ground as well.

Regarding the weight specs of a cup car. They were changed a few years ago. It used to be 3450 without driver. There were huge discrepancies, with some drivers who were over 200 pounds, and others, such as Jeff Gordon who was lucky if he went 140. Now, the cars must weigh the same minimum 3450 sans driver with fuel, but they must weigh a minimum of 3650 with driver. That means a car with a lightweight driver will have to add weight to meet the 3650 including driver. The big boys, over 200 pounds with suit will still have a bit of a handicap, but not as it was ten years ago. It may have been a "Jeff Gordon" rule change. The Indy boys whined about Patrick's unfair advantage for the same reason. The Indy cars were weighed without driver, and that was it. Don't know if they've changed that in the past couple of years or not.

got a new toy
Carpeting is a good idea. Jons are notoriously noisy. A trait of light aluminum boats. Carpeting won't add much weight. Use the lightest weight carpeting available As for capacity, since there isn't a placard on it that tells you load and hp capacity, check out similar sized jons for the safe load rating. At least you'll have a ballpark number.

Computer problem?
My computer could not open the Microsoft Windows update site. Googled the error message, and there were all sorts of "solutions". Click on start, then run, type in whatever and click OK. Look for this or that, then go to part A. Make sure the ?switch is turned on. Delete all cookies and delete all temporary files. On and on it went. I hadn't run diskcheck in a while to clean up the registry, so I figured I'd try that. Voila, problem gone. It can take a couple of hours to run diskcheck, but it's simple. Here's how to do it. Open "My Computer". Right click on the "C" hard drive, then click on properties. In the next window, click on tools. On the next window you will see "Error checking". This option will check the volume for errors. Click on the "Check Now" button. Another window will open. with "Check Disk Options" Put checkmarks in both boxes for Automatically fix file system errors Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. Click on "Check Now" The next message may be that you cannot run Diskcheck because the system is currently running something or other. It will ask if you want to run it at next start up. Click on "yes". You can restart the computer at your convenience. Do it when you won't need it for a couple of hours. It will take that long on a reasonably fast computer. Longer on slower ones.

Any car guys, help please?
If all you changed was the battery, double check your terminals. Did you clean them when you changed the battery? If not, remove them from the battery and use sandpaper or a post and clamp cleaning brush, and remove any surface glaze. If the contact is not good, you can still get a voltage reading that shows it's fully charged, and you can even have bright headlights. But, when you try to crank it, the contact might not be sufficient to carry the amperage the starter requires.

Daytona. Caught up in someone else's mess. Jimmy Johnson finished where in the Daytona 500? How would you score him if that was his first cup race? California. Not good. Car or her? Vegas, yeah, she could have swerved, onto the apron, which would have shot her up the track, not onto the infield. In all three races, she drove smart races. She did not cause any of the wrecks. ARCA race. No need to get excited about her good finish. No doubt her equipment was superior to most of the field in that one. But she drove a smart race in that one too. She has one important thing going for her. She does not need the instant results most do when they start out. She has the sponsors who are more than willing to stick with her through the learning curve. How good is she? I don't know, but from what I saw, she is smart, and knows how to handle a race car. We'll find out if she starts to mix it up with the top dogs in the Nationwide Series, and perhaps, eventually the Sprint Cup Series.

Do Bass Migrate?
I would have said no. Migration, I thought involved considerable distances, involving fish such as salmon, herring, eels, etc. Fish that remained in the same body of water but moved relatively short distances would not be considered as migratory. But, I thought it wise to do a search, and here is what I found. Fish migration From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from Migratory fish) Jump to: navigation, search Many species of salmon are anadromous and migrate long distances up rivers and streams to spawn. Many types of fish migrate on a regular basis, on time scales ranging from daily to annual, and over distances ranging from a few meters to thousands of kilometers. Fish usually migrate because of diet or reproductive needs, although in some cases the reason for migration remains unknown. According to the scientific community, bass (the freshwater kind) do migrate. Time and distance are not factors. So, I wake up in the morning, and migrate to the kitchen for breakfast, then migrate to work, or to the pond to do some fishing.

Will it damage a reel if I cast in the snow?
I know, it's funny. The old lady just doesn't understand what the hell I'm doing in freezing temps casting a jig in the snow. Sometimes I wonder myself, but I have to get my fix somehow in the winter. Nothing to worry about, until you think you start feeling strikes.
