  1. If you "know a guy", the pond in Foxboro at the BPS never freezes over.
  2. You want to save some serious bucks? Use elaztech baits for shaky heads and when rigged, put a drop of super glue where the bait buttons up to the weight, or slides over a holder. You can use it 'til you lose it. You may have to glue it again if the bond fails, but the bait is indestructible. Not even a toothy pickerel can ruin it. I use the four inch finesse worm in coppertreuse, or PB&J on a 3/16 ounce shaky head (Spot Remover where lead is legal, and Vike tungsten where lead is not. I glue everything that is rigged on a weighted hook except for wacky worm rigs. It may be Fat Alberts, Rage Tail menace, craw, Yamamoto Flapping Hogs, etc. The baits will last much longer and will not slide on the shank of the hook. They will get torn up, but will last much longer if glued.
  3. That's okay. I caused my wife no end of embarrassment prior to her retirement. She is a registered nurse and worked in the hospital administration. The doc came in to see me when I came to after having a colonoscopy. "Any questions?", the doc asked. I asked him if he found my head up there during the procedure. He laughed and said, "No." I then asked if he'd give me a signed statement to that effect, for my wife. Sometimes, I embarrassed myself. My wife had surgery for a not uncommon female condition. I went to the cafeteria, and on my way back to her room came across the female doc who had performed the surgery. She was telling that all went well, etc., etc. She said in that type of surgery, you never know what you might find. Before I could stop myself I blurted out that it was like opening Pandora's Box. She thought it was quite funny. I stood there shaking my head, telling her that I realized before I finished what it would sound like, but too late to stop it.
  4. The older you get, the more you'll be saying, "I don't remember."
  5. It beats the alternative. At the risk of sounding political, "Embrace the suck".
  6. I'll see your "President", and raise you one emperor. Bigbill for Emperor.
  7. Compared to me (and other lobstermen) you are a rank amateur when it comes to catching sand fleas. Put three or four pounds of bait in a lobster pot on good sand flea bottom and they will pick the bait to bare bones as fast as a dense school of piranha. You can make book that I recorded those areas, and avoided them like the plague. Rather than lasting two to four days, it wouldn't last two to four hours. Then again, I wasn't a recreational sand flea angler, so I had an unfair edge.
  8. I was going to say that I never broke a New Year's Resolution. So what if I've never made one? Oooops, I did say it.
  9. Did you also know that every spot on the earth receives the same amount of sunlight per year, and that the average day, and the average night are twelve hours in duration. (Disclaimer, the refraction of the earth's atmosphere does affect this to a slight degree) Every day on the equator is twelve hours long. (again, slightly more due to the refraction factor). Ergo, there are no seasonal changes at the equator.
  10. Speaking of bunks. Be sure to check the fasteners on the bunks periodically. This past spring, after launching the boat I noticed that one of the bunks was out of place. The lag bolt had fallen out, and several others had worked loose. I replaced them all with stainless lag bolts one size larger. Had forgotten about that until I saw this thread. I've put check bunk fasteners on my to do list before using the boat this spring.
  11. What you say is correct, but I'd take it a step further. At 3.5 mph, you are not going to miss those small patches on your sounder that would be missed in a boat doing thirty or more mph. The faster the boat, the more info you miss. Yes, the argument can be made that it will cover more bottom than you can in a slow boat. I started fishing a small local pond, about a mile and a half long, and a half mile across in my canoe. In the course of traversing the pond, I found small patches of rocky bottom, weedy bottom, and transitional bottom that I would have buzzed right by in my bass boat. I did as well or better on this pond with my canoe than most of the guys with bass boats. But, when I got a bass boat, I caught a lot more fish from this pond than I would have in my canoe. But it was two years of fishing from my canoe that taught me a lot about what was lurking beneath the surface of the water. It never ceased to amuse me to watch guys launch at the north end of the pond then zoom to the south end, while others were launching at the south end, zooming to the north. I still cannot understand that "logic". Then again, I have taken guests with me, and they stated that just the ride would have made their day even if we hadn't caught fish.
  12. There is only one correct answer. Ask the doctor/dentist who is familiar with your case.
  13. That's ambiguous, so I'll ask. More information is needed. Are you referring to the current, or the prior?
  14. Mine are free. Have been for a few years now.
  15. Trust me. There is no comparison between GH and Sawdy. For two or three years, GH was one of my favorite fishing holes. That was when there was plenty of vegetation in the six to nine foot depths, that held plenty of fish. For whatever reason, over the past three or four years, most of it has vanished, and the fishing along with it. When the forage for bass and pickerel lose their cover, they become easy prey for game fish. It seems the bass are rarely hungry now. Mashpee/Wakeby has gone through the same transition during the last three or four years. Ashumet Pond, ditto. Lake Webster, also known as Lake Chaugoggagogmanchaugaggogchaubunagungamog (spelling from memory, so may be spelled incorrectly) has gone down the same path starting two or three years ago. Lake Singletary, more of the same. So far, "Lake X" has been spared the chemical defoliation treatments, and the fishing has remained consistently good.
  16. It's an ideal size for a kayak, a mile long, and a half mile across, give or take. Canoes and kayaks are the most common boats that launch at the ramp. Some use a jon boat or a small aluminum bass boat like a tracker. There is good fishing anywhere on the pond, once you get to learn it a bit. Some areas are better than others, like any other pond, but there are no dead spots. That's why I've offered the guys on the forum to show them the basics of the pond, some of the hot spots, where the rocky shoals are, where to find the grass beds, etc. It's also a good ice fishing pond according to some I know that fish it.
  17. Here's my two cents worth. Electronics are more important than the boat for locating fish, and the types of bottom that hold fish. Getting into a larger boat, with the same electronics, will not do much to improve your catch other than being able to fish in a bit harder weather. I'd rather be in a "marginal boat" with good/great electronics, than a luxury liner with inferior electronics.
  18. I'll take this area. The pond in the top image is probably my favorite pond. Largemouth, smallmouth, crappie, pickerel, bluegills, yellow perch, white perch, etc. Very little pressure. There are jet skis on the beach at some of the homes, but I have yet to see one scooting around the pond. There is not a piece of barren bottom in this shallow (max depth 12 feet) pond. It is either rocky or vegetation covered bottom, and both where they overlap. The picture below shows our home, and its proximity to several ponds. The pond at about seven o'clock in relation to our home is surrounded by private property. I know several people who own property on the pond and have access to it at any time. Used to be a smallmouth pond until largemouth bass were introduced and eventually eliminated the smallmouth. This pond is a bowl, max depth eight feet. Rocky shoreline with a few lily pad beds but not much in the way of vegetation. No bass in this pond away from the shore, but there are huge schools of white perch, dense enough to turn the screen on a fish finder black. Little to no fishing pressure on this pond. Also holds some huge pickerel. The larger pond directly to the left is the pond in the above image. I fish both of these ponds from my canoe. Want more water to fish, maybe for stripers, bluefish, codfish, tautog. It's all within six miles of our doorstep. In addition to finfish, the Westport River has plenty of oysters, little necks, quahogs (for stuffing and chowder), and soft shell (steamer) clams for commercial and recreational shell fishing. If you like lobsters and crabs (blue shell and Jonah), they can also be found in our local waters. In the picture below you can see the ponds above from the center top to about a third of the way down the image. On the right side of the image is Buzzards Bay which leads to the Cape Cod Canal. The canal is bordered on the south by the Elizabeth Islands with Cuttyhunk being at the southwest tip of the island chain. The body of water on the opposite side of the islands is Vineyard Sound with Martha's Vineyard's southwest end visible just above Google. The body of water in the third left side of the picture is The Sakonnet River and to the left of that is Narragansett Bay.
  19. Will that get past the censors?

  21. Of course. You do a great job as our forum jester.
  22. I have no problem with chips that are made by the manufacturer, or, with their approval. But by a separate entity, not so much. It's like asking for trouble. It used to be that you could pull an aftermarket chip and reinstall the factory chip when you brought a vehicle in for service, and no one was any the wiser. Now, the computers in vehicles will show that the chip was changed and the engine was run outside the parameters of the original chip. Our son-in-law took me for a ride in the half ton, which was also raised and outfitted with huge knobby tires. Going down I-20 between the loud dual exhaust, and the rumbling groan of the tires, you could not hear yourself think. He thought it was great. I thought it was horrendous. Different strokes for different folks.
  23. Don't wish your life away. It goes by fast enough on its own.
  24. Next year. This place. I'll be glad to show you some of the finest fishing in the state. This is the only public access. The ramp is in the top center of the image. You can see the roadway just above it. The small section of the pond is choked with lily pads, and coontail. There is a small channel which leads from the ramp to the twisting channel which leads to the main pond. It is not uncommon to see largemouth and smallmouth bass swimming along the "channel" edges. Largemouth over five pounds have been taken from this shallow area. I haven't seen any that big, but have seen several around two pounds. I have not made a single cast in this section, but that may change next year. I'll let you know when the fish start biting in earnest next year, and you can have the bow seat in my canoe, or bring your own vessel and follow me around. The image below shows my home and the proximity to this pond and an even better smaller pond between home and Sawdy. It is surrounded by private property, but I have access to it. Devol is the closest to our home. Sawdy is to the left. Further left, in Tiverton, RI is Stafford Pond. The largest top center is South Watuppa. Upper left corner is Cook Pond in Fall River, MA. The nearly vertical line which jogs to the left where it touches South Watuppa is the MA/RI state line.
  25. That's smart. When they stick the probe in the exhaust pipe during the annual inspection, it will fail, and you'll have to buy a new one. Why do so many think they can game/beat the system? Why suggest doing something that is illegal?
