  1. I stand corrected. But, unless you unhook the tie down, and allow the belt to retract, there is even greater tension on the retracting spring when the tie down is relaxed. My position remains. There is no advantage to relaxing the winch or the tie downs in order to save "wear and tear".
  2. When I was younger, we'd take a flashlight to a nearby golf course to gather night crawlers. You can dig all around our home, except for the gardens and the lawn, and not find an earthworm. But our compost heaps, gardens, and lawn are rife with them.
  3. It might make him angry. He's been "mad" for a long time.
  4. It's interesting that this thread excoriates golf courses as evil killers of fishing waters. I cannot tell you how many threads there have been on this forum about the great fishing at golf course ponds. Another interesting observation as a former golfer, I cannot recall seeing a "dead" pond on a golf course. I have seen several that have large numbers of frogs and huge, plentiful crawfish. How many courses in southern waters are home to alligators? They cannot survive in barren waters. On one local course, Lakeville Country Club, the largemouth bass that live in a pond adjacent to the course use culverts to navigate their way to the shallow waters on golf course property where they spawn. While my observations may not be scientific, they do bear evidence that nature can, and does in some instances, thrive despite the chemicals used on golf courses.
  5. Is there a plankton hook?
  6. Regarding spring tension. There are no springs on winches or tie down straps that I know of. The little spring that holds the lever in position to let out or crank in the winch strap does not count, nor do the springs that engage the ratchet on tie downs. Do you jack your car up and put it on jack stands to take the weight off the springs when not in use?
  7. Hey Raider, I'm going off line for the next two weeks. The first week I'll be at Pickwick with some buddies, and the second week I'll be at Doublehead, with some buddies. You've made noises about showing up for a couple of days at Wilson. Is you, or ain't you? Enquiring minds want to know.
  8. That looks more like decomposing than composing.
  9. I thought you were going to tell a story about the pimple police.
  10. I do know where and when the doctors acquired ...................................................... It started when they stopped teaching penmanship in schools. From first grade on, in this area, we were taught "penmanship", using the Reinhart Method until we got into high school. I think it was a scheme hatched by forgers so that all handwriting was the same.
  11. Very good. When there is a team trivia contest, I want you on my side. Never heard of the word before. I have a lot of useless knowledge tidbits. Now I have another. Without looking, do you know what defenestration means? Answer below. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defenestration
  12. Dinky and I, along with a couple of buddies will be fishing Pickwick, and maybe Wilson the week before the Road Trip. We'll be arriving at Pickwick Landing State Park on the 19th, then Dinky and I will be moving to Doublehead on the 27th. For what it may be worth, we'll share whatever we may have learned at the Soiree. You have my cell number. If you are fishing before the soiree, call me before you arrive, and I'll fill you in.
  13. Five plus pounders do exist in those waters. In fact, on my first Road Trip, which was to Pickwick, the two largest fish caught were smallmouth bass. I caught a six pounder, only to be outdone by Old Cranky with a six and a half pounder. Mine was on a shaky head, his was on a crankbait.
  14. Wednesday evening is Ghoti's Soiree. You should be able to recruit plenty of help for Thursday evening. I'll volunteer to help.
  15. Here's the title for your memoirs. MAKING FRIENDS, ONE LADLE AT A TIME
  16. It's already been done.
  17. Too soon old. Too late smart. As to the college degrees, in your case it would look like this. BS = Bull**** MS = More **** PHD = Piled High and Deep Which means they would be redundant. You've been qualified for years.
  18. Gluvit, 3M 5200 are also good choices.
  19. I don't think so, but you may have to braid your hair.
  20. I can tell you what happened to a small local pond across the street from our home. Years ago it was a smallmouth pond, and it produced significant numbers and sizes of smallmouth. My dad won a fishing derby where he worked with a seven pound, fourteen ounce smallmouth caught in this pond. It also had significant and sizeable populations of chain pickerel, crappie, white perch, yellow perch, bluegills and crawfish. There were zero largemouth bass in this pond. A tank truck was going to stock largemouth bass in a pond just a quarter mile to the west, and broke down. The driver went to a local farmhouse to see about getting some help. The farmer got on his tractor and towed the tank truck to the smallmouth pond where the largemouth bass got dumped. That was over twenty years ago. Today, there is not a single smallmouth in the pond. The pond where the tank truck was headed has smallmouth and largemouth bass, as do several other ponds in this area. I doubt you have to be concerned about smallmouth doing any damage to a population of largemouth bass. If this pond is any indication, when smallmouth and largemouth cannot co-exist, the largemouth win.
  21. I'm designing a new chapeau to be unveiled at the Road Trip Soiree.
  22. I just picked up one of these at BPS last weekend. Very soft, very comfortable with adjustable headband and chin strap. It could become my new favorite hat. http://www.thehookuptackle.com/fishing-Apparel/Simms/Solar+Sombrero
  23. If I told you, it would get me banned.
