The "Home of Profound Absurdities".

The Truth
The important question becomes, why would your family immigrate from northern and northeastern states to an area of the country where, if a girl marries her brother she can keep her last name? Did they find the familial philosophies appealing?

I'd like a valid birth certificate, just to prove he's a human being, let alone a natural born citizen.

Well, with those qualifications, I think you should run for public office. The higher, the better.

How Do You Use Marker Buoys?
I use them to mark the outline of a shoal or hump. It depends on the size and the shape. I select a depth. For the sake of the discussion, let's say it's twelve feet. I'll approach the shoal/hump. As the depth decreases, I'll drop a buoy at 12 feet. Then, I'll continue across the shoal and as the depth increases, I'll again drop a buoy at 12 feet. I'll fish the "line" which passes through the two buoys. That includes the shallow bottom between, and the deeper bottom outside the two buoys. Generally, the depth I use is along the "shoulder" of the shoal. I've read and experienced that this is the area where fish tend to gather. If I find fish at the "shoulder" area of a shoal/hump, I'll cross the shoal at a right angle to the original line, halfway between the two buoys, and drop buoys at the 12 foot depth. I'll use as many as needed to provide a good visual of the shape of the shoal. It also provides a good visual if the fishing is more productive at one section of the shoal. It's not unlike following a dropoff which can be seen in clear water. Or, working the edges of a lily pad bed.

A Little League Coach
Well, that win leaves you as the only undefeated coach in the league. Congratulations.

A Little League Coach
The most important thing any coach in a kids' league is to teach them responsibility. How to play should be secondary. The now ex coach failed miserably at teaching fulfilling one's life commitments. It's a good life lesson that if someone shirks their responsibility, they will be replaced. A coach should show the kids that he/she is with them, through thick and thin. My guess would be that if the team had been winning, the coach would be there to bask in the glory. But, since they weren't, he had better things to do. I may be wrong, but that is what the kids will see, and that's the important thing.

People Keeping Every Fish They Catch
I have only one bit of advice. You either learn to live with it, or do something else. I was a commercial fisherman and had to deal with far more serious matters than bucket fishermen. Getting gear towed up by draggers. Some fishermen who poached other fishermen's gear. Some "fishermen" who scrubbed egg bearing lobsters so they could sell them. People who had no courtesy and would set their gear over yours, and to make matters worse, if your trap came up over their line, they would cut the trap off rather than cutting and retying their own line. Then we can talk about the weather, and storms that destroyed lobster traps by tumbling them around on the rocky bottom. The reality is that if you could not deal with these things you would not last long as a lobsterman. It was reality, and it wasn't going away. You may get some small measure of satisfaction by "venting" or reporting the violators, and there is nothing wrong with that. But, the bucket fishermen are not going away anytime soon, if ever. They are like the litterbugs that trash ramps and shoreline fishing areas. If it gets you upset, you are better off finding another pursuit, because those who lack decency, consideration, and courtesy for others will always be with us. I refuse to let the few slobs ruin my day. I'll pick up some of their trash and debris. But I don't dwell on it. I will not let it eat me up.

24 hours? After 24 minutes if I don't see a new post from you I get concerned.

Where Is He?
An absence of posts from Raider lead me to conclude that his smoking cessation has resulted in him being placed in a straitjacket, and put in a padded cell. Raider, if you can read this, I hope that you are successful in your endeavor to quit smoking. Looking forward to your return and/or release from captivity.

Made Me Think Of Long Mike.
That's a basic primer for Long Mike. He is also proficient in the placement of commas, periods, question marks, exclamation points/marks, hyphens, etc.

Raider, I think you've missed your life's calling. You'd make a great ringmaster at the circus. That, or maybe the host of a television show like Jerry Springer.

Power surges were not a problem years ago. But, since computers now run just about every bit of machinery, such as appliances in our homes, it is all susceptible to power surges. Some have built in protection, while others don't. How long is the extended warranty? We never purchased extended warranties, but my wife did when we got our new washer and dryer last year. Good thing we did. Both units have needed repair in the past few months. I think the basic charge for a service call is 75 dollars, give or take, and the meter runs from there. If you have extended coverage there is no charge. If you don't, you'll get a diagnosis and an estimate for that 75 dollars and the repair will be on top of that. In some cases, the 75 dollars will be applied to the cost of the repairs, or toward the purchase of a new machine, if the tech works for an appliance store.

Drivers
It's odd, but my wife always complained about slow drivers blocking up the road by not driving at, or above the speed limit. You need to know that because of accidents, Route 88 which runs from Horseneck Beach to I-195 is a two lane highway with a Jersey Barrier down the middle, making it one lane in each direction. So traffic would back up behind someone driving the speed limit, let alone driving ten mph or so below the limit. I told her to leave a couple of minutes earlier to avoid being behind one person who, like clockwork was always ahead of her, with her in the trail of commuters in their wake. It would be much simpler for folks to leave five minutes earlier rather than dealing with the annoyance day after day, after day. But in today's rat race, too many folks have their time rationed so strictly in their daily routine that they do not, cannot, or will not alter their schedule by a few minutes. If they get delayed in one area, they'll try to make up for it by speeding. It is dumb, but that appears to be the common mentality. I'm the type that would rather be fifteen minutes early than to be five minutes late, so I will leave early, and usually arrive early, rather than become agitated by minor slowdowns along the way.

Tow Vehicle
When I replaced the tires on my '07 Sierra (new style) at 90,000 miles plus, I replaced them with the same tires, make and model.
-
Tow Vehicle
Now, you've got me curious, so I checked the tires on my new Silverado 1500 4 X 4. Four ply tread, 2 polyester, 2 steel. Two ply sidewalls, polyester. Goodyear Eagle LS-2, 275/55R20.
-
Tow Vehicle
Sounds like you're describing "all terrain" tires vs. "all season" tires. I got General All Terrain tires on my '87 or '90 Chevy 4 X 4. Never again. I don't do any off roading. They were noisy, and they didn't last 40,000 miles. I replaced them with Kelly all season tires. Quiet, got much better gas mileage, and they lasted for over 80,000 miles.

Boat Leak Question
Put blocks under the axles to take the weight off the wheels, then fill it up. Apparently the leak is above the level to which you filled it.
-
Tow Vehicle
What are "fully rated 4WD tires"?
-
Tow Vehicle
I'm not sure about the tires costing more. I replaced the tires on my Sierra 1500 at just over 90,000 miles. Goodyear Eagles 2.75 or maybe 2.65 X 20", the same tire that came with the vehicle. Less than 140 per tire mounted, balanced and disposal of the old tires included. Dealers seem to provide the best prices on tires.

I Think Road Warrior Needs A New Name.
A similar thing happened at KY Lake. Alpster was at the stern, Ken was in the middle and I was on the bow. Alpster was fiddling around with his bait and the wind caught his line just as Ken made a cast. His bait snagged Alpster's line, and the result was that the point of Ron's hook got driven into his thumb knuckle. Went to the nearest medical clinic and they referred Ron to the hospital. They were not equipped to deal with a hook in bone. I'd rather endure the name "Fluffy". Never a dull moment on the Road Trips.
