Garmin Echomap UHD side view problem
We’ll, I cleaned the contacts, tried the system and it seems to work ok for now.12Poundbass, could you tell me how to post a photo from a cellphone? I contacted BassResource, but haven’t gotten anything but an automated response—no help.

I’ll try to take one & post it…..if I can figure out how!

Garmin Echomap UHD side view problem
My Echomap UHD reads fine except for the sideview. The left side shows the black portion of the water, however the right side doesn’t show the black water area at all; the blue color is next to the transducer line. Any suggestions?

Landing nets and crankbaits
I’ve got a high dollar BassPro net that’s advertised to be ‘rubberized’. Doesn’t seem to work for me! Seems like I spend more time unhooking crankbaits than fish.

Landing nets and crankbaits
When I use my landing net to land bass caught on a crank bait, I get a world of tangles. Does anyone else have this problem? My net has rubberized fabric, and crankbaits should be easily removed….but not!

Circuit breaker on trolling motor battery
I’ve got a t0 amp fuse instead of a circuit battery on my system. Seems to work ok. ‘60’ amp!

Echomap UHD depth offset problem
Since my transducer is mounted on my trolling motor, I set the offset 1 1/2 ft. Shallower, so the Garmin would read the actual depth. However, while the digital number reads accurately, the graph still shows 1 1/2 ft. shallower depth. Does anyone know how r to fix this problem?

Circle hooks on crank baits??
I recently saw a fishing show where they changed the treble hooks on their crank baits to circle hooks. They reversed the hooks, and said this made the baits practically snag proof & seedless. Has anyone tried this?

Difficulty Casting Braid / Leader Combo
Micro guides give me problems with braid to fluro leaders. However, with standard guides I tie a 5-6 ft. fluro or mono leader to 30 lb yellow braid with a Shin knot. The yellow braid is easy to see, casts better (for me) than mono, gives me more feeling and seems to last longer. The Shin knot is the smallest knot I’ve found to date. I don’t have enough guts to try the FG!

Braid to mono leader?
I use just enough leader to let the knot stay above the reel spool. I tried green braid, but wasn’t able to see the line clearly. Switched to yellow braid with a leader and seems a lot better. I use a Shin knot, as it’s a bit slimmer than an Alberto; haven’t attempted the FG knot!

Johnny Morris rods/reels from Bass Pro Shops
I’ve owned one of the older gold Carbonlites, and think it’s as good as my Lews reels. Have several bionic blade rods, but have stepped up to Dobina Fury ‘s now. Bought a carbon lite medium baitcasting rod for a friend & it seems fine. A bit more bulky than my Dobina, but is really light. Wouldn’t mind buying one for myself when they go on sale this spring…..but Wife says I have too many now?!

Echomap UHD volt reading problems
It’s not a problem with the Garmin, but I use the voltage indicator to check the charge of my trolling motor battery; it powers both the Garmin and my trolling motor.

Echomap UHD volt reading problems
Thanks! IOW, I should have a voltage drop. My wire is (I think) 18 ga. I’ve got about 20 ft. of wire to my Garmin line, which is another 3-4 ft. , so this voltage drop is to be expected?

Echomap UHD volt reading problems
Thanks for the info. My battery only gets to about 12.8 volts max. That’s enough for me, as I don’t fish more than about 4 hrs per trip anyway.

Echomap UHD volt reading problems
My Echomap UHD 9sv doesn’t read my battery voltage correctly. My battery is located in the back of my 16 ft. boat, and reads 12.6 volts. However, the voltage on my Echomap reads 12.2 volts. I assumed the discrepancy was due to the voltage drop in the cable, but I read the voltage at the connection of the cable and the Garmin power cord, and it was 12.6 volts—same as at the battery. Anyone have any ideas?

That sickening crunch under your foot
A fishing partner always leaves his rods with the tips protruding outside the boat. We’ll, he’s broken at least two tips off. He knows everything, so I haven’t gently suggested to him ‘ KEEP THE d**n RODS INSIDE THE BOAT!!’?

Your Moron Moments
This is no ‘moron moment’. Everyone I know has done this in their fishing career—including me!

The Lone Fisherman
Learned this from a fishing guide: keep the big fish in the net in water ‘til you’re set up. Take your iphone (or Android, I guess) and prop it somewhere in the boat that gives you a good photo. Set the camera on ‘selfie’ and set the timer to 10 seconds. Push the button, take the bass out of the net and hold it up ‘til the camera clicks- then release the fish. It works! I mostly fish with my lab; trained her to sit still when the motor’s running, and she sits by me when I’m fishing. She gets more excited than I do when I catch a bass!

Scary fishing moments
One May I was in a small 14’ boat on the northwest side of a 3,000 acre lake. Looked to the southwest, where the boat ramp was, and saw the blackest cloud I’ve ever seen headed my way. Since I had to head toward the ramp, and the storm, I buckled my life jacket & headed back. The wind and waves really got bad, and the flat bottom started taking on water. I prayed “Lord, I’m not afraid of my life, because it’s warm & my life jacket is good, but if I swamp, I’ll lose my boat, motor & all my gear. If you let me get back to the ramp, I promise I’ll get insurance on this rig!” Well, the boat got about half full of water, but I made it back ok. I then stopped at the first pay phone(pre-cell phones) and made a call to my insurance agent!

Rain Gear Suggestions
I fished all day in the rain—in a ‘less expensive’ rain suit. Got wet & froze. Bought a set of BassPro 100 mph rainwear. Trout fished all day in a January rain; stayed dry & warm. Trick is to buy them big enough to layer underneath and leave the layers off for summer.

Double uni knot v. FG knot
For me, the Shin knot is easier to tie and thinner than the Alberto knot. I tie 30# braid to 12# flouro and haven’t had any failures yet.

What Was Your Favorite One On Saturday Morning?
Bill Dance is the only show I ever consistently watched, and the only one I watch now. All the others don’t teach me anything, and are geared more toward showmanship than fishing. I hate it when some ‘angler’ brings in a good bass and starts screaming .

Anyone buy a house on the lake? Fish more?
We bought a ‘vacation home’ on a lake about 25 years ago, and moved here when we retired. Best thing we ever did. I walk about 100 yards to my boat, which has all my fishing equipment except rods & reels. Don’t usually fish all day, because I can always go tomorrow. Our lake is a small one, about 600 acres, but is an excellent bass & bream lake. I finally sold my bigger boat, because it was never used. One thing; don’t buy one if it’s too far away to use often. If you don’t go often, as other posters have indicated, you’ll spend all your time on ‘honey do’s’ and less on fishing!

Braid to fluoro on casting rod
I use a 6’ fluro leader with my 30 lb braid, attached with a shin knot. The reason I use a leader is I can’t see green braid, so I use yellow. For surface lures, crankbaits & spinnerbaits I still use mono.
