Just Sad
""I agree, Why didn't they stop them at 10, They should be jailed and have to watch Charlie Moore for 24hrs every day of their time." no no i think the situation was that they were going out and catching ten bass... then taking them back to a camp. then going back out. ive heard of people doing this all the time. i hope they all get arrested. regulations are there for a reason.... many and i mean many people i have talked to think they are a suggestion. i cant tell you how many times ive told someone i caught a 30in. redfish and they said "what?! you put it back?! if i catch a fish its going to the house." etc. hope those people and everyone like them go to jail.

what do you use for taking photo's on the water?
well i normally use my cellphone... but i got my g/f one of these and now imma get one for me too. it is amazing for the price.... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/FUJIFILM+-+FinePix+12.2-Megapixel+Digital+Camera+-+Blue/9766746.p;jsessionid=B31FCEA353160797C5529425876FDA5B.bbolsp-app01-25?id=1218170030463&skuId=9766746 ive taken lots of pics withit underwater in a pool and stuff at the beach and its a trooper. expensive... but its worth it not to have a heartattack everytime i get a camera near water. we just took a float off an old net and attatched it to the lanyard.....

Carolina Rig Question(s)
i throw a c-rig probably 50% of my time. for the last few years i have been using 15# powerpro as a main line and whatever flouro i had left over on a spool for my leader... usually 12lb that i lined a crankrod with. yozuri also has been a fav leader. lately though as in this past weekend and for the rest of the fall, i am going to be throwing flouro as my main line and the same line as a leader. i dont really use a smaller test leader unless im throwing braid for instance and that is only so i can break off if i have to. if you have a flouro leader, i dont think the difference in diameter from 8lb to 12lb matters that much. flouro is so much more invisible than mono.... and people used mono for many years as leaders. i guess if i was in chrystal clear water id consider it, but i rarely am. i have a 6'6" shimano crucial mh/f and a 7.0 quantum T.E. that being said, i think what you are using is just fine and will catch plenty of fish. if its not going to be a "go to" or favorite technique for you then going super specific on your set up makes no sense. no need to spend 300 dollars on a set up youre rarely going to use. what you have is more than adequate. the c-rig bite is sometimes a "bump" like a t-rig but more often than not its a heavy feeling or your line swimming off. some people "check" for a fish by letting it swim or putting pressure on it.... but i think thats kinda silly because youre giving that 3/4 or 1oz. lead a chance to ruin the bite. just reel down and "sweep set" the hook to the side...preferrably the oppisite way the fish is swimming. hooksets are free. missing fish costs money.

What kind of boat did you fish your first....
i just started fishing tourneys two years ago and have fished them all from the back of the same boat... ranger 520 comanchee with a 225 yamaha. im spoiled. : probably gonna end up with a 16 or 18ft aluminum though.....
-
Techniqe specific rods (is it needed?)
on the other hand... i throw my weightless plastics including floating worms and trick worms... with a 6'6 mh clarus and a 50 dollar pinnacle solene reel from wal mart. it has done this for 4 years now without a hitch. so.......

Shimano Crucial CRC-X610MH Review
i have the CRCX76MH that i use with a quantum TE for carolina rigs and deep jigging. it is awesome. i really enjoy split grips and this is one of only a few they offer. wish they had a few more models with the split grip design. i cant afford a cumara. *SIGH*. if i could get a crucial for 59 bucks id sell every rod i have and get 12 crucials!!!! lol.

New to throwing Crankbaits
strike king, norman, bandit and rapala. all great... great baits under 10 bucks.
-
Skeet throwing Strike King????? Hmmmm
i know it doesnt apply to the pros becuase they probably dont pay for cranks... but if i found out that on a certain day i could catch just as many fish on a SK as i could on a LC i would def. be throwing a SK. its 5 bucks. i could lose 3 of them to a tree before i paid for one LC. lol its ridiculous. ive never had a single problem with the "lower quality" of SK series cranks.

KVD 2010 AOY
well im somewhere in teh middle here. i think the current "postseason" for AOY is a crock of poop. AOY is like MVP and should be given to the person who was the most consistant and predominant angler that year. going by the points system in place that was clearly skeet reese. he had a huge lead when the season ended. if bass and more importantly espn want a post season to make money on (exactly as pointless as bowl games in the bcs) then it should be treated as such... with a totally different "Prize" to the winner. like a championship title or something of that nature. but it shouldnt have anything to do with the points system of the regular season (other than maybe for qualifying...) because as illustrated the last two years..... the regular season standings dont count for squat in the post season and its basically a free for all. why keep score in the post season when you change the way the score is levied? ignorant. i think if they want to do a post season they should take the top twelve anglers and have two seperate two day events. opposite sides of the country... opposite types of lakes. like kentucky and falcon. finesse and power... no time to practice.... and then the total weight wins. not only would that be more exciting for veiwers but it would be more challenging for the pros too. not to mention it would much more "fair" and also be less obnoxious as the currnet post season joke. p.s. maybe they could even go old school and not tell the anglers where they are even fishing till they fly them there. thatd be great.

First decent spinning reel?
yeah... shimanos are great but honestly, ive owned many a daiwa and shimano spinning reel over the years esp before i got into baitcasting... and i have to say, the quantum incyte is the nicest and longest lasting spinning reel ive ever owned at any price point below 150 dollars. and its only 54. you can probably find them cheaper than that. ive had my first one (a 40 size) going on probably 5 years now of heavy salt water abuse (reds and blues and a shark here and there...) and it runs like the day i got it. with no real maitenence. the handle has corroded a tiny bit... but affects the performance none. i got a newer one and us it only for freshwater... relegating the old one to strictly saltwater. you can not beat them for the money. period.

Carolina Rig Setup?
7'6" shimano crucial mh/fast -quantum te 7.1 - yo zuri hybrid 15#. i was using braid for a long time but ive just switched just to see how much difference i was actually getting with the braid vs. the drawbacks. the pros.... you can feel the color of the rock your dragging across with braid. the cons...if you hang on that rock good luck breaking off. also ive been having a bit of trouble with braid diggin into my spool lately and that is ticking me off. the hybrid is doing awesome just as i expected so ill probably stay with that till i talk myself into buying some flouro.

Power Pro at Walmart vs. others in any differences?
In your area of the country where there are a lot more people fishing it may be nonsense but up here when our BASS and TBF organizations do not have 300 people and there are much fewer fishermen it makes sense. Less fishermen = less people buying fishing line. So the same spool of line can sit on a Wal Mart shelf or in a back room for years. I don't know if braid is effected but I know flouro's are. Some of the boxes that the line comes in will be dusty and look like they have been on the shelf for months. If they get a shipment of line in the fall then some of it will be atleast six months old by the time it is ready for use in the spring. It's still nonsense, that stuff does not fly off the shelves to fast at Walmart, I've seen the same boxes there for a year, a size I don't buy. The Walmart I go to has a small fishing department with a slow turnnover. I would have no reservations about using any of it regardless of age. It's stored in a climate control environment in a sealed package, no sunlight hits the line and dust on the box never touches the line anyway. I store my spooled reels (exposed line) in my garage, in Florida where the temps in the garage exceed over 100 degrees for 6 months at a time. The line is fished under harsh salt water conditions and many of my reels haven't been changed for more than 2 years, line is just fine. I'll take all the PP I can get from Walmart that has dust on the box. x2. ive been using powerpro for years for saltwater... way way before i heard of anyone using it in freshwater... and i have left line on a spool for a year or more without even blinking an eye. as long as it doesnt sit in the sun for months at a time... u should be fine.

Love my new BPS Carbonlite Rod
yeha i was looking into these rods too... the thing you have to remember though is that no product is ever going to get a 100% approval rating and even good productions make some bad apples. ive had a shimano clarus explode on me shaking it out of a tree branch... and they are probably the best rods made for the money. thinkin imma try a carbonlite this xmas....

New PB! Around or bigger than 10lbs. Picture.
thats an easy 8! what a catch man congrats!!!

Need advice for a new crankbait setup.
every crank thred i feel like a broken record. lol. youre not really looking to slow your retrieve with a lower gear ratio reel when DEEP cranking. youre looking to reel that 3/4oz crank through 19ft of water all day without youre arm falling off. the resistance requires more torque. just like youre car shifting down to go up a hill. same thing. if youre looking to throw mid to shallow cranks youll do fine with youre citica. actually itll do fine for deep cranking too if you dont mind wearing yourself out. its just easier and more comfortable to use a lower ratio to deep crank. *sigh*

SO lets see who this should be legal?
in high water situations... lots of anglers bring chainsaws and shears and machetes to get back into better spots. *shrug*

Planting brush piles before a tournament...
yeah.... but catching them is the easy part. knowing where a sustainable population of fish big enough to win the tourney is the real challenge. personally i think its shady.... but i agree that at the LEAST it should be discouraged/ illeagal in the top levels of competition. esp. that close to the day.
-
Advantage/disadvantage of a 7.0 bait caster
yeah. the only thing that i throw on a reel slower than 6.3 are deep cranks and big spinnerbaits. and i cant say enough about them for pitching and flipping... you can catch up to a quick bite on the fall like nothing else. 11lbs of drag? ha... my quantums got 18. had to say it... its the only thing i got on shimano. lol.
-
Hook size for beavers
i use a 3/0 gammy skipgap
-
Favorite way to rig trick worm
carolina rigged on a 3/0 gammy skipgap. awesome. like was said before though.... they pretty much rule any way you rig them. best all around plastic out there.

Terminal Tackle Storage
i have the flambeu (?sp) zerust boxes and dont have this issue at all. and my stuff doesnt rust. another idea that ive been doing lately is taking rattletrap boxes and putting my hooks in them. they fit easily into my tackle tray there and i can label the size of the hook and other things right on the box with a sharpie. works like a charm. fwiw i use a 3700 size box for my terminal tackle and recently weighed it and it goes about 9 lbs. lol. its stuffed! but organized.

Rage Tail. Epic Fail.
yeah.... before i get jumped on too.... im just stating that there is a better value out there with other lures. not that the rage tails are in anyway inferior or cant catch fish... ive caught a fair share on them. just that im not in anyway ready to give my other plastics away and buy only rage tails any time soon. or ever for that matter.
-
KVD Line Conditioner??
as an added note... line and lure makes another product that they market as "saltwater" line conditioner. same stuff ... bigger bottle.... cheaper price. just so you know.
-
Rage Tail. Epic Fail.
i like the rage craw and the rage shad is awesome. however.... i tend to agree with everything you said. they are overpriced for the amount that you get. and add on top of that they arent very durable (esp the shad) and the bang for the buck is low. as much as i love the craw... i cant say that it has produced any more fish for me than the zoom speed craw... which is cheaper and more durable. so ive kinda just switched to those. i will continue to buy the shads just because they are such a different action than other plastic topwaters, but i have found myself only throwing them when i am very confident that im on a spot that has good sized fish. i dont want to waste my rage shads as search baits.... thats not a good way to feel about a bait. its how i feel about some of my bigger nicer crankbaits and it drives me crazy. lol. jmho
