MegaStrike Scent
But the same can be said about putting it on a lure and throwing it in said tank.

MegaStrike Scent
A true test would be like I said put ONLY scent in the tank and see if they come investigate. No lure no nothing. The product is great there is no question about that. I'm just simply pointing out some common misconceptions. And reeling in lures with the scent on them and no hooks doesn't prove anything besides the scent interests them more but is completely useless since more than 95% of the time they are hooked when they initially strike the bait. If it takes me 7 strikes to catch something on a crankbait or spinnerbait I'm doing something extremely wrong. Hence the fact that I feel its completely pointless to put scent on baits like those.

BPS Extreme spincast combo
Nah just making a statement. I get a little overzealous sometimes and horse fish in. If I'm pitching weightless worms and stuff at docks and brush I like to have that little extra comfort with the thicker line.

BPS Extreme spincast combo
I fish a lot of tournaments and don't want to have to worry about line strength. Anyways this post is about the rod and reel not my choice in lines.

BPS Extreme spincast combo
I just picked one up in 7' m with the 2000 series reel. Has anyone else tried these out or used one? I spooled it up with 10lb line which was the largest recommended for the reel.

I have that feeling....
Thx guys...I guess it was just the monkey on my back saying I "needed" something else.

I have that feeling....
like I'm missing something. I have a total of 4 rods and one more on the list to buy before my tournament season starts. I have 2 6'6" mh 6.2-1 ratio as do it all types but mostly for worms, spinnerbaits, and my topwaters, a 7' m with a 6.3-1 ratio for crankbaits, a 7' m spinning outfit for finesse techniques and weightless worms, and I plan to buy a 7'6" h with a 7.2-1 ratio for flipping jigs and heavy carolina's and such. I pretty much feel like I can cover most of the stuff I throw with these. Is there anything I may be overlooking? I don't throw swimbaits due to the fact I'd hang myself if i ever lost a $25+ lure. Thx in advance.

MegaStrike Scent
Your biased tho lol. And your statement goes to prove my point. It doesn't ATTRACT bass in the sense the companies wanna make you think, it keeps them more interested once they have already struck the bait. IE holding on to it longer and as you said striking again if they first miss. Its a common misconception that most people have about these scents and stuff that it is what draws the fish to it by making them come searching for it or something along those lines. If you wanna prove it to me as an ATTRACTANT then do a tank test in which you only put scent in a tank with fish and see if they come investigate it. I'm not knocking your product by any means as I use scent myself on jigs, worms, craws, etc. But this is a forum where people come for information and I believe they should get all of the information. Also if a fish strikes my crankbait and doesn't get hooked he is a lucky S.O.B. considering he dodged 6 hook's total and a majority of them are suresets.

MegaStrike Scent
Just a quick bit of info for you guys out there. Scent doesn't actually attract bass. It makes them hold on to a bait longer. There isn't really a point to applying scent to reaction baits since they are just that, a bait who's action makes a bass react and draws a strike. Of course if it gives you more confidence then go right ahead. Bass can smell 1/100th of a drop in 300 gallons of water. So there isn't a point in slathering the bait in it either. So save some money by not overdoing it.

Tru-life question
I was really interested in getting one of these until I went to my local BPS and saw them in person. They look a little cheap and the hooks are very small. I might get one if I could put bigger hooks on it and not adversely affect the swimming action but still I dunno if it justifies the $20 price tag. Anyone try swapping out hooks? And anyone have any info that might sway my opinion?

New Spro frog popper
Anyone use these yet? I picked two up today at basspro. One green one black. Those colors work the best around here in Okla. I like the concept of adding more splash to an already good frog.

First tourney advice
I work in a casino dealing poker for a living. I see people get lucky and win and then turn around and lose the next time everyday. I understand we got extremely luck to do as well as we did. I try not to let experiences like this give me a big head. It was a blast tho but way more exhausting than I thought it would be. I learned quite a bit and can't wait to fish another. I don't think there are any losers in a fishing tournament. A bad day fishing beats a good day of work anytime. ;)

First tourney advice
I caught our big bass (4lbs) on my second cast of the day with a buzzbait. We caught our limit 2hrs into it and only culled two fish after that. It was good enough for a second place (15.20bs total) finish. I had a blast, my partner was great, and we both took home $426 each. I learned a bit and had a great day. There were over 70 boats in the tourney.

First tourney advice
Its gonna be 44 degrees outside the morning of my tourney.

First tourney advice
I don't really expect to go out and win it. Although it would be nice lol. I just wanna have a good day out on the water and learn a few things. My opinion has always been "actually doing something is the best way to learn". Watch others, imitate, adapt it to suit me.

First tourney advice
I talked to him about car pooling but its opening day of muzzle loader season so he's headed to the lodge after weigh-in. We met on a local fishing forum and he seems to be an established member of the local fishing circuit. Also he seemed very personable from our conversations over the phone. The tourney is on Ft. Gibson lake in Okla.

First tourney advice
Its a team format and 5 fish limit. But it is paying for 2 big bass and 1 out of every 7 boats.

First tourney advice
I've read up on the columns about co-angling and tournament tips. I'm fishing my first bass tourney on the 25th as a co-angler. I'm going to be bringing my large tackle bag, 3 rods, and a snack and drink. Its only a one day tourney and runs from safe light til 1pm. My poles are 2 baitcasters one with 14lb floro for cranks and one with 14lb mono for spinnerbaits and Carolina rigging and a spinning for weightless worms. My tourney partner said hes more into a stay and play approach than the run and gun style. So we'll probably scout out a few 3 or 4 spots and fish them most of the day. I'm just looking for anything else I may need to know or should do. I'm splitting the entry and gonna give him gas money. Any advice is appreciated. Thx in advance.

Abu Garcia Black Max Casting Reel
I have two buddies that use them. I've used them as well. They are excellent for the money and my buddies prefer the Black Max over their Revo S's. They also fish tourneys regularly so i trust in their opinion. I don't know how they will fare over a year or two of tournament use but for the average angler they are an excellent beginner baitcaster.

Frustration!
I use off brand senkos and I have a very cheap baitcaster. Does need to be oiled but I'm still learning to use it properly.

Frustration!
What should I do when the topwater bite is off (mid day) and I'm fishing a super weedy pond? Even a weedless texas rig was getting snagged up pretty bad. I didn't have my spinning pole with me so I couldn't throw a weightless weedless senko either. Any particular ideas or tips? I was using 1/4oz bullets also. I know there are plenty of fish in the pond because at dawn and dusk we crush them on buzzes and fast spinnerbaits and spro frogs.

Reels for my rods question
I'm planning on using them fishing tourneys next spring thru fall. Will a 4 bearing (3+1) reel hold up to that abuse? I was leaning towards the Revo S (8+1), Or maybe a Diawa Tierra (6+1). Both are right there in price but have double the bearings. I'm not brand dependent like it seems a lot of people are on here. No offense. Both have gotten nice reviews on BPS.com and the Citica doesn't have any reviews at all. Also will it make much of a difference on the topwater or crankbait rod? Or is it mostly all rod when it comes to functionality? I would like to match the rod and reel to its intended purpose. Thx.

Reels for my rods question
I have a 6'9" Falcon topwater light action rod and a 7' Falcon crankbait rod I think is a medium. Looking for a good reel for each. Looking to spend around $120 for each reel and I don't wanna buy used. Just looking for some opinions. Thx

Ok I'm on the bandwagon
I've fished off and on most of my life. Mostly perch jerkin' and catfish. Only recently have I gotten into serious bass fishing and possibly fishing tournaments . I'm only 22 so don't think I've missed out too much.

Ok I'm on the bandwagon
I must admit I, like most people probably were, was very skeptic about fishing with a Senko style worm. I've read all about people on here loving them so I decided to give them a try. I didn't buy Senko brand ones but I bought the same style. I actually found some Rick Clunn brand ones that came in a kit with 4 colors at academy, I also bought some Yum dinger ones because my gf liked the color of them. I went fishing at a local pond with some buddies and rigged one up weedless and weightless. First cast I got a bite but missed the hookset. Next two casts I caught fish. A 2lb largemouth and a very audacious perch that was just bigger than the worm. I'm hooked.
