  1. whoa........sweet ride Matt. very exciting. now that you are a "glass" guy don't forget us metal bangers on the res!! looks sweet and congrats on the boat and the cs gold. can't wait to see both. you know ........ i've got a vehicle that will tow that new boat of yours.......
  2. ptomac bass, i was out form 8am till 3pm and fished 4 brush piles. wanted to get a bite going but was a bit breezy and water temp was 39. might try again on Sat. will report back with my results. flippin', i was up right after you guys got back into Dan's boat and were trying to retrieve a Loomis was it??? you two looked a bit pekid after that scare and swim!! Mikey is not the type of guy who seeks attention or accolaids for doing what I know was the right thing . all the same i'm sure he would be very happy with a gift card.
  3. I know for a fact that he is a tackle warehouse freek
  4. 1 very small bass(8 in) on a drop shot and a bunch of short strikes. nice to have met Andrew and Simon, wish the results could have been a bit more rewarding!!supposed to be warmer all week, maybe another shot this week-end, if I don't go to lake x.

please moderators......for some reason i can no longer pm. i get a message stating i have been banned. not sure why. what do i do now??
  7. how polite!!!! you guys will never need my permission to fish the same place as i am ever. i always say the more the merrier. i'm gonna launch from the second entrance at about 7:30-8:00. i'll be more than happy to show you guys a bunch of places. Andrew, you got a graph right??? just look for the drop-offs and deeper shorelines and pay close attention to the graph. if you come accross a large amount of bait or fish in general on the graph, mentally note where you went over them and make some casts. a lot of these fish are really ganged up in certain spots. if you mark them you can usually catch a couple.
  8. Matt, got your pm but for some reason it says that i'm banned from the forum...........weird..........didn't think i ticked anyone off. anyway, i have a map that i found that has a bunch of info on it, once again, if i can find it i'll make you a copy!!Saturday is my day this week-end to fish so i'm gonna be back at Burke to give it another go. caught a 2 3/4 lber at Lake Braddock this afternoon on a jb ghost minnow 78, very surprising because of the receint cold. i'll give you a call if my plans change and i'm able to get out Sunday.
  9. not sure about the Fountainhead schedule as Mikey has quite a bit on his plate with the baby due right around the time we hold the first tx. about Burke next week-end, i'll let you know if im gonna get out there. we also have to consider the weather for the week as it's gonna get cold by the end of the week. hope it doesn't freeze!!! if you can Matt, find a copy of a map of Burke and i will mark some of the piles that i know of.
  10. well i didn't whak any hugh fish at Burke but i did manage 6 keepers in the 2-3 lb range. only found 1 spot they woud bite. 5 on shakey 1 on a drop shot. i probably missed as many as i caught!! i too was daeling with a lot of freezing so i really concentrated on the spinng gear. when they bit it was mostly a spongy deal with the only indication a increasing feeling of weight on the other end. the spot i was fishing was a bit new to me. i saw John and Jason Dillinger fishing it in the morning and as the moved on i decided to give it a shot. i knew of the spot but had no idea of the magnatude of debris on the spot and the depth around it, absoutly amazing, possibly my new favorite spot!! some of the other brush piles are very quickly being silted in and rapidly breaking down, ashame, they really hold fish well in the winter. might be going out again next week-end!! sorrry to hear you got skunkd a Mercer Andrew. Matt i'll be more than happy to show you the piles that i am aware of. lemmie know
  11. mercer.........wha?.......... why not try something a bit different?? i'm gonna be at Burke with a buddy of mine, why not give the brush piles a try Andrew??? has mercer got some kind of spell of minimal success on you???? have you gotten onto any of the pickeral out there? a few years ago, I know someone caught a 10 from mercer. the only problem with mercer is that the forage is sooooooooo plentiful that you have to be a magician to have a great day. very good crappie in there as well. good luck.
  12. Andrew, tried to pm you and it said i was banned from the forum so here goes........Huntsman.......dam riprap with the jb and the drain for the crappie. Burke is not a night deal in the winter, occasionally at night in the summer. any warm water in the winter on the river is a bass magnet!! i mean i'm not eatin' 'um so why not teach 'um a lesson!!!!
  13. mostly bass. Alexandria watertreatment is right there and the discharge is a warm water deal. it can get a bit crowded on the week-ends. check out the tide chart for National airport and go on the last couple hours of an outgoing tide, and watch out for snags if your gonna chuck multi hook baits. small grubs and worms seem to work well. i've caught 'um on a jb and rattle trap in there but you gotta be careful.
  14. you guys should be looking at Burke if you have access to a boat. brushpiles are begging for jigs. some of my best days at Burke have come in the first week of December. Huntsman????? been catching about 25 crappie in 2 hrs of fishing and the occasional bass. been to magical lake x twice, no huge fish but 20 bass each day with a 4 each time. might get out there on Sat.!!!!!!! Trevor, why not LB with the jb or jig????? check out 4 mile run at the rt1 bridge, thats always a good bet when it gets really cold. just remember slow and steady wins the race!!!
  15. thanks for the compliments guys, jb fishing is probably one of the most fun ways to catch 'um. about 4 years ago I read an article in bassmaster on jerkbait fishing basics. the things that I got out of article that have really influenced me the most, and I think Matt hit on it, is that you have to try a few things to get that first bite and go from there. I try to parellel or 45 the bank or point, then I crank it down about 8 turns. at this point I usually count to about 20 slowly, at the same time trying to keep the slack from my line by slowly sweeping my rod tip(and I mean just enough to keep contact with the bait) and you may have to experiment with your tequnique. I highly recommend mono over floro, something soft like trilene xl. then you just try different things like Matt said, a couple of small twitches, pause, count, single twitch, count, small drag, twitch twitch, you get the idea. try different counts, sometimes they want a 35 coount, sometimes they want a 12 count. most of the time when they hit it they completly anihalate(sp) it, completly swallowing the bait!! other times your wondering how you got snagged and realize whatever you snagged into is moving with a distinct whoomp whoomp. all I can say is it's a kick-*** way to whack some pigs this tiime of year. oh yea, the reason iI don't use floro is that it tends to weigh the bait down. I use 12lb test, and make sure your bait is somewhat neutral. a very slow sink or rise is ok, you just have to compensate and work with what you have. good luck
  16. thanks Matt, i was very supprised at how fat they were. almost as round as they were tall!! this place has bunches of this size fish and a lot of people just ignore it.
  17. whooooooohoooooooooo I figured out the picture thing!!!!!
  18. my favorite time is from right now till mid March at Huntsman. my bait of choice is a pointer 78 or a small jig with a finess worm trailer. i have caught fish over 6 and had fish on that felt bigger.
  19. caught a couple of nice fish today a Huntsman. should be on for the next few weeks. if the water clears up a bit more you should be able to really tear them up. got pictures on my phone, not sure how to get them up on site??? help??
  20. [edit][/edit]nice job Matt. Next time you guys fish Key Bridge, try a spider grub on a 1/4 oz. Jig head those smalli's eat that up good. We need pictures next time!!
  21. here is something else to consider, look on eBay for a gently used bow mount trolling motor with about 50lbs thrust. You won't be dissapointed!!
  22. yea thats usually me, hat on my head and smokin' a cigar. Not sure that we have actually had a conversation, but a bunch of us think you guys have been putting in good time on the res and deserve to be let in on some of how things happen out there. I'm not gonna give you everything, but we think you can figure a lot out on your own with some inside info. You have to understand that a lot of these guys have been fishing out there for 20-25 years and believe you should have to figure this stuff out all by yourself. I was lucky enough to have some people "clue me in" on things that go on at certain times of the year. Not gonna give you specific spots, but will show you how to approach some of the community holes and how to line them up if you don't already know. with this info you can duplicate your success on other similar places. You up for that??? lemmie know
  23. I'm Jon Hudgins. I kinda help Mike and Dan out when they need help with sign up in the mornings. Let me know if you want to get out there. My outboard is in the shop getting a new powerhead.(second one in two years!!) NOT HAPPY. I will be in Wisconsin from Oct. 2-7. I'll be checking the web site regularly. E-mail me if your interested in getting out after that.
  24. I've had some success on the res. Dan has had much more success on the res. If you talk to Dan, ask him about the whoopin' he and Mike Fisher took when we fished hunting run the second day it was open!!! It was all in good fun. No doubt about it , Dan is one of the best fishermen on Fountainhead.
