  1. I signed up for an account last summer and the first time I ever used it was also the last. I probably didn't give it a fair shot, but I couldn't get into it.
  2. I have no problem with cyclists being on roads, in fact once it warms up a bit here I'll start riding my bike to class instead of driving. The only issue I have is with critical mass events where cyclists purposely block traffic. I realize that many drivers are inconsiderate of cyclists on the roads, but one upping them and being even more inconsiderate than they are isn't the way to solve that problem.
  3. Obviously what the guy in the car did is inexcusable, but it was only a matter of time before something like this happened at one of these critical mass rides. Bunch of smug cyclists hogging the entire road moving as slowly as possible just to prove a point that they have a right to be on the road too by inconveniencing and making drivers angry. I bet if me and a couple of my buddies took up every lane of traffic on a busy road going 5-10mph in our cars for no reason other than we wanted act like jerks, we'd be ticketed for impeding traffic so why do critical mass riders get away with it?
  4. Can you even get ethanol free gas anymore? All the Kwik Fills in my area used to be ethanol free until the middle of last year, and now they're all 10% just like everywhere else. When we asked about it they said that it was a new law that the ethanol had to be in there, but I'm not sure if this is a federal or state law.
  5. I buy the 3" ones as a dropshot bait, but in the larger sizes I'll usually go with a different brand unless I find a really good deal on the GYCB's
  6. Did you cross-thread it when you tried to put the cap on the left? My only Pflueger reel is an older 4730 Trion, but the cap screws on both sides no problem.
  7. Hopefully this means they're close to a deal with the players.
  8. Has anyone ever used this line? I'm thinking about trying fluorocarbon for the first time this year, and this is a relatively inexpensive option at around 8-9 bucks a spool. It got mixed reviews on bps' site, with the primary complaint being knot strength, which IMO is more often the fault of the person tying the knot than the line. If I did get a spool, I would probably get 8lb and use it mainly as leader material on spinning rigs with a braid mainline. Is it worth trying or should I look elsewhere?
  9. My old one, Shaner1988, is my childhood nickname and the year I was born. My new one is ROCbass because I live in Rochester, which is sometimes referred to as the ROC, and I like bass fishing. It is also a play on the name of my favorite panfish, the rock bass.
  10. They are doing it mostly for the water fowl and loons. They eat the lead and die. Tungsten is getting cheaper and with more companies producing it it should hopefully keep dropping in price. but my question is...is it enough to ACTUALLY effect the population? are there mass groupings of loons dieing because of peoples jig heads? seriously? It's doubtful. When NY banned the sale of lead weights, the reasoning behind it was that birds were swallowing sinkers thinking they were pebbles and getting lead poisoning. Jigs weren't included in the ban. I'm not sure why they chose not to include jigs, but one could reasonably assume that if a bird swallowed a jig the hook would kill them before lead poisoning could.
  11. Carbonlite BC reels were on sale for $100, and the reel trade in knocked off another $20 so I got one for $80. Other than that, I got a few BPS enticer football jigs, a BPS Kermy frog, a spool of trilene xl 6lb, and a spool of 20lb stren sonic braid. Other than the stren braid everything I bought was on sale but the discounts weren't anything too special. Besides the reel the best deal was probably on the BPS jigs, which they were selling for $1.67 when the normal price is $2.59
  12. No, I didn't notice what others had traded in or if any of it was good. Myself, I traded in an old shakespeare spinning reel that I hadn't used in years and forgot I had until I saw it hanging in the rafters in my dad's workshop. It was part of a $25 kmart combo that I got when I was in middle school, and I got $20 off a new carbonlite baitcaster for it.
  13. It looks like I'm one of the only ones who breaks down my combos between trips, lol. I just started doing this last year, for a couple reasons. One reason is that I currently have more rods than reels, so instead of having set combos I'll put the reels on different rods depending on how I'm planning to fish. A second reason is that the slots on my rod rack are pretty close together, and the rods don't fit too well if they all have reels on them. I have actually had rods fall out of the rod rack because of this. Finally, if I'm driving a long way to fish, like the 4 hour trip to my buddies cottage or my grandparents house, I feel that the reels are better protected better for the trip if they are tucked away safely in their boxes than bouncing around in the car on a rod the whole way. Although I think overall it is better for my rods and reels for me to store them this way, I do sometimes wonder if I'm shortening the life of my reel seats by screwing and unscrewing them more often than most people do.
  14. I can't see the video because I'm at work, but I think banning him is a little much if you're serious. People do illegal plays of varying degrees all the time in every sport. Sometimes they get caught, sometimes they don't. Sports would cease to exist if everyone who broke a rule got banned. It's not like he intentionally injured anyone (except maybe himself ;D)
  15. I consider myself pretty ambidexterous, but not completely because I do some things better with one hand than the other. I write left handed, but do almost everything else right handed. I think I was supposed to be a left handed thrower, but when I got my first tball glove they didn't have any lefties so I learned to do it with my right. I can still throw accurately left handed, but I don't have very much power. When I played lacrosse I was right hand dominant but we had to learn to play with both hands, and even now almost 5 years after I last played I can pick up a stick and do just as well with either hand. I usually cast right handed, but I've taught myself to do it left handed as well. When I was in high school I broke my left thumb and had to do all my work right handed for a while. It forced me to take my time, and my handwriting was actually neater with my right by the time the cast came off, although it took me 2-3 times as long to write something.
  16. I postponed my trip due to the storm on Friday, but left Rochester at 7:30 this morning and got there right as they were unlocking the doors at 9:00. I had made a list of items I wanted to get ahead of time, and by sticking to the list I was able to get everything I needed and get out of there in less than an hour. It was just starting to get a little crowded when I left, but it still wasn't bad.
  17. This is the only high end carbon fiber reel that comes to mind. However, I was under the impression that carbon fiber was essentially a fancy name for graphite, and I don't know what separates a reel like the CI4 from the lower end graphite reels, though I'm sure there must be difference in the quality of the graphite or how it is constructed.
  18. I was just wondering how everyone stores their rods and reels here. Do you leave your combos put together or separate them? I separate mine after almost every trip. I say almost because sometimes if I know I'm going out again in the next couple days I'll leave them together, and my ultralight combo gets left in the car for most of fishing season. The rods all go in a rod rack, and the reels all go in their orginal boxes inside a large plano tackle box with the drawers removed, which is also where I keep all my line spools.
  19. Decided not to go today. It's nasty out there!
  20. I usually fish plastics and jigs on braid, 30lb for baitcasting and 10lb for spinning. If I'm worried about line visibility or fishing in rocks I'll add a mono leader, usually 6 or 8 lb. for spinning and 12 lb for casting. For treble hook lures, I use 6 or 8lb test mono for spinning and either 12 or 15 lb mono for casting. I usually fish spinnerbaits and small to medium paddletail swimbaits on 15 lb mono.
  21. No, I did not realize that but I'm not a member and I have other plans at that time. Since I'm trying to avoid the crowd as much as possible, the fact that I'll be long gone by then sounds like a good thing.
  22. I don't really have set combos, partly because I have more rods than reels, but this is what I have: Casting Rods: St Croix Avid 6'6" MHF St Croix Mojo Bass 7' MHF Fenwick Goldenwing IM7 6'6" M-no action rating on this, but I would call it fast Acadia Sports F series 7'MH-again no action rating, but I would call it fast Ugly Stik 6'M Casting Reels: Curado E5 spooled with 12lb Triplefish camo mono Abu Garcia C4 4600 with 15lb Big game Daiwa Advantage 150H with 30lb stren super braid Spinning Rods: Ugly Stik Lite Pro 2 pc 7'M Acadia F series 2 pc 6'6" M Spinning reels: Pflueger Trion 4730 Gander MTN. Guide series Metal 20 both spinning reels have 10lb spiderwire stealth on one spool and either 6 or 8lb trilene xl on the other. Which I use depends on which rod I'm putting it on, the technique I plan on using, and water clarity. (hopefully) coming soon Casting rod 7'medium moderate for cranks (so far I've looked at BPS carbonlite, BPS crankin stick, and carrot stix wild) Casting reels: I need at least 2 more, 3 more when I get the cranking rod I want. I plan on getting a BPS carbonlite at the reel trade in sale this weekend which will take care of the first one. For the other two, I'm considering one of the new Lew's speed spools and an Ardent c400.
  23. I'm planning on making the trip to Auburn for the big sale tomorrow. I'm working an overnight shift tonight and get out at 9am tomorrow morning. I'm leaving straight from work, so I should get there around 10:30 or 11. Does anyone know what kind of crowds I should expect? I've never been during the Classic. I'm hoping that it won't be too bad because I'll be there in the middle of the day on Friday when many people are at work.
  24. It always amazes me when someone admits to illegal fishing on here then has the stones to cop an attitude when they get called out. It's sad really.
